My cooker oven exploded about 3 weeks ago.

and thanks to the great british system .......which everyone berates at times

I have been given £280 to buy a new cooker.

(I have paid my taxes) but seriously £280 for a new cooker , the month before christmas , thank you

I would never have known this was possible unless a really clued up person advised me about it

Sorry, my bad!

I just hate to see people boasting about how much of MY tax's their getting, i'm all for a good cause, and everything.

Rational · 19/11/2011 15:11

"Sorry, my bad! "

Lol, I can be a little reactionary myself.

CreamolaFoamless · 19/11/2011 15:13

i don't think its your tax to be fair champagnevity

champagnevanity · 19/11/2011 15:17

If my hard earned money is going on buying people cookers, then i think i should have a say on where it goes.

I just think their are so many better causes, and its not just you that's struggling, everyone is!

carben · 19/11/2011 15:22

The address is a DWP processing site. CCG's are done at central processing centres which is why it would have been sent from Scotland to Brum.

NettoSuperstar · 19/11/2011 15:29

My form came with a pre-paid envelope addressed to somewhere in Wembley.
I'm in Scotland too.
I'm guessing there is more than one processing centre.

If the OP has qualified for this then good on her. You don't just get money thrown at you, you have to meet the criteria and it generally means you aren't in the best of circumstances.

Good luck OP, and enjoy your new cooker Smile

CreamolaFoamless · 19/11/2011 15:30

i think its fair to say it is more likely to come from my own tax contributions....however i you want to feel all agrieved thats your call,, i do think jeremy kyle is looking for new audience members Grin

SardineQueen · 19/11/2011 15:31

creamola if I were you I would get rid of this thread, I think that it might all turn a bit nasty.

SardineQueen · 19/11/2011 15:33

If any elderly people freeze to death IMO it is the fault of govt not creamolafoam.

NettoSuperstar · 19/11/2011 15:33

Did you tick the box for a free flatscreen and some pre-cut fruit? Grin

CreamolaFoamless · 19/11/2011 15:35

yip a 52 inch and fresh pineapple

OP posts:
NettoSuperstar · 19/11/2011 15:39

I'm going to go for a 60 inch and some mixed mango and melon.

CreamolaFoamless · 19/11/2011 15:39

just to clarify im self employed on a just gets by amount

the whole social fund/community grant was i complete surprise to me

OP posts:
carben · 19/11/2011 15:39

Yep there are processing sites all over. Wembley is a big one. The SF payments have nothing to do with how much tax you have paid - CCG's are based on circumstances and need if you meet the eligibility criteria - eligibility has nothing to do with taxes paid. Sorry to disappoint you OP. However I do think that you are down-playing your situation as I know how difficult it is to qualify for and get a CCG.

Enjoy your new cooker !

blackoutthesun · 19/11/2011 15:40

hope the tv was hd ready Grin

CreamolaFoamless · 19/11/2011 15:50

oh i'm not down playing im skint at the moment , i find no shame in that .

My reference to taxes was simply because someone thought she would be paying for it, I was a bit like that though a couple years ago so I do appreciate where she is coming from

OP posts:
CreamolaFoamless · 19/11/2011 15:53

however I don't know if this will make sense but I have been in a worse financial position and had no idea about the funds/grants

I suppose I just wanted to let other people know about it too

OP posts:
carben · 19/11/2011 15:54

What did you put on the form about difficult pressures you were under or about your own or your family's health ?

KittyFane · 19/11/2011 15:55

Just read your posts OP.
At first I thought WTF as your OP sounded like you were boasting about getting something for nothing.
You must be on a low income to have received this grant ( whatever it is), not everyone will be eligible and there are many people who struggle to make ends meet and can't easily pay for large appliances like cookers if their old one breaks down.
These same people are very often not eligible for hand outs and this is what makes me Hmm about this thread.

carben · 19/11/2011 16:01

It's not really about financial pressure because everyone receiving benefits is under some financial pressure (except the Daily Mail lap of luxury benefit claimants of course !). It's about your circumstances over and above the just financial.

KittyFane · 19/11/2011 16:02

BTW, agree that David Cameron has F all to do with you getting this money OP. I have no doubt he has some person or other working on scrapping it at this very moment.

CreamolaFoamless · 19/11/2011 16:04

I honestly didnt think I would either KittyFane hence my surprise.

And if my experience encourages someone else in a similiar ituation to apply that must be a positive thing surely

OP posts:
gramercy · 19/11/2011 16:05

Surely it's a voucher of some sort? Surely OP has not been given just £280?

carben · 19/11/2011 16:09

You're probably right Kitty- there are rumours about this. Will see what April brings.

OP - if you answer the questions about the info you DID put on the form you might actually be REALLY helping someone.
