Confused
zeeboo · 19/11/2011 14:12

Am I alone in wondering why the OP is being so cagey and not telling us exactly what she claimed and whether she is currently on means tested benefits or not?

CreamolaFoamless · 19/11/2011 14:17

well i've got the letter out and it says a personal payment from the social fund?

it doesnt mention crisis loans or community care grants?Have I been given something weird?

Electric or gas OP? Argos has an electric one for £250.

carben · 19/11/2011 14:29

The Tory government ended all Crisis Loans for furniture/ household items in April this year to save money. At the same time they reduced the amount of money for telephone crisis loans (for food, gas and electric) from 75% of basic benefit rates to 60%.

To get a budgeting loan you have to be getting JSA (IB) , IS or PC for 26 weeks and it will be affected by any other BL debt you might have.

To get a CCG you DO have to be getting a qualifying benefit and you would also need to be establishing yourself in the community from some form of care, be at risk of going into care and a CCG would help you remain independent or a family facing very exceptional pressure. This would be over and above the normal pressure of managing on a low income such as a disabled family member or an exceptional situation like fleeing DV. Even if a claim meets the necessary criteria because of very limited funds the priority of each individual item has to be assessed in order to stretch the money as far as possible over the financial year as there is a fixed amount of money allocated for the year.

Reading between the lines I would think that OP or partner receive a QB and are facing exceptional pressure - what did you say on the form about your family situation ? - a cooker is considered a high priority item especially if the are health problems in

the family.

NettoSuperstar · 19/11/2011 14:29

The form is light and darkish pink, the light does look greyish though.
I have one here as I live in temp accom on a 7 day lease so will need to fill it in and get it bask asap once I get notice of moving.

CreamolaFoamless · 19/11/2011 14:31

i have no idea how big my broken cooker is

50cm or 60cm does mean centimetres yeah? Or is it cubic metres?

oh my god.......I have no idea what I'm doing ...I officially hate cookers

Cookers are measured width ways - so measure across the front from left to right. Use a ruler if you don't have a tape measure.

Also Birmingham is where the Independent Review Service are. If you ask for a review of a CCG it first goes go to an internal DWP Review Officer. If still unhappy then you can ask for it to be referred to the IRS. I have never heard of a personal payment ! Might be new though I suppose - although pretty unlikely with the current gov't I would have thought.

TheMonster · 19/11/2011 14:40

I take it that's a no then...

Something not right here,

The CCG -
You can apply for a Community Care Grant if you are either:
already getting Income Support, income-related Employment and Support Allowance, income-based Jobseeker's Allowance, Pension Credit, or payment on account of one of these benefits,

which if she was, wouldnt be paying tax?...

And, do we live in a government who gives working free people money to buy cookers, yet some of our elderly people are going to freeze to death this winter?

Someone's lieing, and shamelessly boasting, well done. I'm going to buy myself a chanel bag, didn't start a thread about that one did i?

Rational · 19/11/2011 14:54

champagnevanity

She means she paid her taxes in the past I think we've already established, not that she still is.

crazynanna · 19/11/2011 15:01

I think that address is the Independent Review address. Were you originally turned down for the application and then appealed?
