We don't have one, 2 DC and one on the way, I cook/bake a lot and I'm so sick of washing up piles of dishes.
He says it makes you lazy and it doesn't take long to wash up, fine but I don't want to do it if some genius has invented a machine that can do it while we sleep (and I'm already lazy)

Stop doing the wash up. Tell him he can do it.

puzzlesum · 18/11/2011 21:44

Presumably if it doesn't take long to wash up, he won't mind doing it?

ByTheSea · 18/11/2011 21:45

It is more energy-efficient than washing by hand.

malinois · 18/11/2011 21:46

Just buy one. He will be converted within a week. If he isn't, leave him.

JollySergeantJackrum · 18/11/2011 21:46

Tell him you'll go without a Christmas present in order to get a dishwasher. DP and I are going halfs on a dishwasher and not buying eachother anything else.

mousymouse · 18/11/2011 21:46

yanbu
hand all dishwashing duties completely over to him until he surrenders.

pros:
more hygienic
saves water (our d/w uses 7l for a full mashine)
tidier kitchen
more time for sex

halcyondays · 18/11/2011 21:47

Leave all the washing up for him to do, he won't mind, after all, it doesn't take long, does it? He'll soon change his mind.

It's a bleak day in our house any time the d/w breaks down.

Chulita · 18/11/2011 21:47
Grin I've tried saying that if he doesn't want one, he can do all the washing up but I feel really mean and end up doing it anyway.

First up, does your DH do 50% of the washing up? If not then he really has not got a leg to stand on.

TBH, our dishwasher broke and we went back to hand washing for 48 hours before it got repaired. I can say categorically that hand washing dishes takes a lot longer than stacking and unstacking a dishwasher and I do a lot of baking.

Frankly a dishwasher is not a huge expense and if you are pregant and with two other children I really think your DH should be willing to make life a bit easier for you.

BarkisIsWillin · 18/11/2011 21:48

Chulita - step away from the sink.

Chulita · 18/11/2011 21:49

Good plan re presents, especially since he bought a few for me last week. I was thinking of selling my KitchenAid (that makes the fluffy buttercream icing he likes so much) and buying a washer but I couldn't bring myself to.

lazy Confused. It would take 2 mins to handwash a few clothes but I don't.

We have a slimline washer that we use everyday. The water is heated super hot and the dishes are blasted. I love my dirty dishes cupboard.

BobblyGussets · 18/11/2011 21:49

Does it make you lazy op or does it make one lazy?

Leave the bastard.

Chulita · 18/11/2011 21:49

He does some but not 50%, I do all the cooking so resent cooking and washing up in the same evening.

onehitwonder · 18/11/2011 21:50

With 2 DC's and one on the way anything that will give you more time for them and yourself has got to be a bonus. No one will look back with joy on the time they spent doing the washing up - playing with the kids however..........
We got one just before our 2nd was born and it has been a god send in our tiny galley kitchen and I dare say saved us a fair few rows.
Also, great for sterilising stuff, ideal for a new baby.

puzzlesum · 18/11/2011 21:50

I feel really mean and end up doing it anyway.

Then more fool you, frankly! It'll take about 3 days on washing up strike to make your point.

halcyondays · 18/11/2011 21:50

Ah, so that's way he thinks it doesn't take long!

Honeydragon · 18/11/2011 21:50

dh and I used to have those debates, until he came home and found a dishwasher installed in the kitchen. Then they stopped Grin

Chulita · 18/11/2011 21:50

I think it makes one lazy but it's too late for me.

OP posts:
halcyondays · 18/11/2011 21:50

Why, not way

Pedallleur · 18/11/2011 21:51

Presumably he eats the things you cook/bake? Why would he think that anyone would get lazy with 3 x children. Suggestions are

Let him do it since it doesn't take long. Just leave the pile of unwashed utensils ready for him.
Use plastic cutlery, paper plates etc as this will cut down on washing up.
He is taking the pi55 - you are cooking etc, get one

He doesn't do 50% and you do all the cooking!!!!

Sorry but you really need a dishwasher. He is being totally unreasonable. Ask for it for Xmas.

ZillionChocolate · 18/11/2011 21:53

I've had one for 5 months and I bloody love it. Join us in the future, it's fantastic!

Chulita · 18/11/2011 21:53

I do regularly leave it for him but he can escape off to work whereas I've got to wash it or the DC don't have any cutlery.

Grin tsc I need something to show him.
