We don't have one, 2 DC and one on the way, I cook/bake a lot and I'm so sick of washing up piles of dishes.
He says it makes you lazy and it doesn't take long to wash up, fine but I don't want to do it if some genius has invented a machine that can do it while we sleep (and I'm already lazy)

I can save him the time, you need a bosch logixx or advantixx, not classixx (made in turkey and not as study when I looked at them last month)

They do one which is 14 place settings, it may also have the extra hygiene setting for baby bottles!!! no more sterilisers or milton (if you ff or express).

The logixx are super quiet and use about 10ltrs of water for a full cylcle.

I use daisy lemon powder from tesco, I'm varying the amount I use, trying 2 teaspoons tonight. Its very cheap but does the same as finish etc IMHO.

My dh didnt want one either, he said washing up is no problem. Which it wasnt for him because I did it. So I stopped for 3 days. On the third night he saw sense.

Happy wife, happy life. So true.

Try appliancesonline.co.uk. Excellent service, I couldnt fault them.

If you need to put the outlet through your sink trap go to B&Q, they do the fitments, takes about 15mins to get it set up.

I had this problem. It was solved when he got ill and couldn't keep up with the washing up and realised the need for it. However, we didn't live together then. I think that the one who does the most washing up gets the most say. If he thinks it is so easy to wash up, then he won't mind doing all of it. If he doesn't like the idea of that, then it's clear you need one.

Bosch.

daveywarbeck · 20/11/2011 15:02

Smeg. Deffo.

smileitssunny · 20/11/2011 15:24

another vote for Bosch logixx!

FredFredGeorge · 20/11/2011 15:34

I wouldn't sterilize bottles in a dishwasher, no better and potentially worse compared to normal sterlizing, and a lot more expensive - the water needs to be really hot.

rogersmellyonthetelly · 20/11/2011 16:06

I insisted dh buy me one as my "present" after dc2, my reasoning was that 2 young kids my time would be much better spent entertaining them than doing the washing up. Within a couple of weeks he admitted it wAs the best thing he had ever bought and maintains that to this day 6 years later

viksam · 20/11/2011 19:24

chu I love the response you have got, ace! And from what i can see only two decenting voices amongst loads!
Well just to add my two pennuth, as i said before ours broke and was replaced post haste within 24hrs, thats how important it is to me and dh. Yes it takes time to load and unload but nowhere near as much time to wash dry and put away. Most things these days can go in even my pans but i do them by hand cos id rather fill the washer up with the crappier things and it doesnt take two seconds to rinse a pan does it!
The bottom line is, time is very precious and about to become more so in ur house so what ever it takes to have more time and less stress has to be of top priority!
P.S Your DH is very VERY lucky to have someone like you to look after his children and him so very well, he could at least go with you on this one even if he doesnt agree.

maeggee · 20/11/2011 19:36

Honey , I am not even getting into the importance of having a dishwasher or not
but get this , been with hb for the last 10 years with two girls and always had one but he always drink his cup of tea and leaves it in the sink , next to the dishwasher, so , dont know what to tell you!!

Xmasbaby11 · 20/11/2011 19:43

I don't understand his argument. It doesn't make you lazy. it saves you time that you can spend on better things! Most modern appliances save time - washing machine, microwave, tumble dryer, hoover. Does he object to those?

I cook and bake a lot and a dishwasher is a godsend.

Also, it makes your kitchen look neater because you can put stuff straight in it.

tell him you don't have to use it all the time, just when you have guests / do a massive load of cooking.

Naturally, you will use it ALL THE TIME.

allagory · 20/11/2011 19:45

Start feeding him value ready meals straight from the plastic for a week with plastic cutlery. I think he'll soon see that a dishwasher is a small price to pay for his delicious homecook meals.

FredFredGeorge · 20/11/2011 19:49

Why do people dry their dishes? What's wrong with leaving them to dry on the rack and putting them away in the morning, same as you do with a dishwasher?

mousymouse · 20/11/2011 20:22

when we didn't have a dishwasher we just left dishes to air dry. only when we had a lot of dishes that didn't fit the drying rack did we have to do that.
