To want to go and kick this man right up his ignorant arse

I am rushing off to work so sorry if this has been done.
I am also sorry for the DM link but they are rather good and this sort of story.

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2058976/Future-mayor-sparks-outrage-saying-parents-using-disabled-children-planning-permission-huge-extensions.html#addComment

This man has made one of the crassest comments I have seen. He has epitomised the current demonisation of people with disabilities and actually taken it to a whole new level.

Now I realise that this thread will bring out a whole heap of 'my neighbour's cat's uncle had a blue badge and he ran a marathon last week' type of comments. But I will ignore them - thats is what the DM comments page is for.

Just a few thoughts before I go and work with families who are clearly raking it in from haveing a child with complex needs Hmm

Having adaptations to your home is unlikely to ADD value and will put most buyers off.
Looking after a child at home will save the tax payers at least 2k per week per child
People who have severely disabled children often have to give up work to provide care - yes even when the go to school full time. How does your boss like you taking a few hours off to take your child to the dentist? Well imagine having 3 appointments in one week, a month or two in hospital per year plus being called to the school on a weekly basis because of seizures, temperatures, falls and unexplained prolonged bouts of crying... Still think you could hold down a job?

This guy is a fucking knob.

I am angry

What an absolute "arse" he is. Pretty disgusting article. I'm sure that these families have more on their minds than possibly adding value to their house. I do not know lots about this subject but I do know what it is like having someone living in a a house where it is very difficult to get them up and down the stairs.

People like him shouldn't be making decisions that affect people in the community.

Sevenfold · 09/11/2011 08:56

sorry can't bring myself to look at link, I can tell what it says without looking.

having adaptions done so your child/family member can live at home saves heaps of money in the long run, but no doubt by the time I come back the shitheads will have posted.

OhDoAdmit · 09/11/2011 09:01

Sorry Seven I know this will bring the wankers out of the woodwork Sad . I am not going to ignore it because of them. I know how this thread might go but this has made me so angry and upset some good people. Dont look at the article. You will know the story already. Hide this thread if you think you should. I dont mind Smile

This guy is going to be mayor next year FFS.

Mr Crompton said he was worried about increasing house prices, but insisted: 'I have no objection to the disabled children.'

Oh thank goodness for that.

Where to even begin?

OhDoAdmit · 09/11/2011 09:04

Isnt he a Love? So tolerant of the existance of disabled children.

Hmm
OP posts:
cantspel · 09/11/2011 09:05

The man is a disgrace

Quote He said: 'People are moving into the countryside with disabled children and building big extensions to their properties.
'In a few years, if anything happens to the child, they've got a big property worth three quarters of a million pounds.
'I'm just a bit concerned people are using their children to get big extensions.'

Grumpla · 09/11/2011 09:06

I have a major fucking objection to him.

Bastard.

Bet he hasn't actually seen an adapted house. Most people I know who have had funding for stuff like that have been given the absolute bare minimum. Any luxuries like a floor surface they could move safely on or heating have had to be paid for themselves or managed without. Not sure how many housebuyers think "ooh lovely, this cold damp garage has a hoist and shower in it, that's worth an extra 20k on the asking price!"

Knobster.

JuliaScurr · 09/11/2011 09:15

It's almost funny. This idiot seems to blame disabled children for the lack of affordable rural housing. They're an easier target than the government, so why not?

imnobody · 09/11/2011 09:16

Luckily he has no objection to disabled children imagine if he did what he woul be saying. Hmm

OhDoAdmit · 09/11/2011 09:17

I have to go to work now and probably wont be able to access this thread because I have sworn on it and it wont get through the filter FUCK. But I will be back. I am a newbie twitter so my power on there is limited but PLEASE if any of you can get something going on there I would appreciate it. Maybe MNHQ could trend it?

sospanfach · 09/11/2011 09:21

bump. What an appalling idiot this man is.

comedycentral · 09/11/2011 09:22

What an knob!

eaglewings · 09/11/2011 09:32

Won't read article as you have painted a good picture

Maybe he'd like to tell this to the family who used to live in our village who had to move as their house could not cope with their DD's needs.

They now have a great house, perfect for her needs, but it's miles away from all friends who would pop in and help at a moments notice :(

All because they could not get an extension built

squeakytoy · 09/11/2011 09:39

Thankfully, the vast majority of comments so far on that article are almost all saying what an idiot the man is.

Other than that, words almost fail me that a supposedly intelligent person could actually come out with such ignorant remarks. :(

TeaCider · 09/11/2011 09:41

He is a disgusting excuse for a human being. Wow, this has angered me. And he is to be a mayor, a representative of/for the people?! He's a disgrace.

NinkyNonker · 09/11/2011 09:41

He is such a pantomime villain he has shot himself in the foot so no-one will take him seriously. Prick.

HecateGoddessOfTheNight · 09/11/2011 09:45

"I have no objection to the disabled children"

phew. How good of him.

No gas chambers for my two yet then. Hmm

"In a few years, if anything happens to the children, they've got a big property worth three quarters of a million pounds."

What. The. Hell?

What is that supposed to mean? Build a big extension cos then when your children die, you'll have lots of cash. Or build an extension, smother your kids and sell the house for a big profit? [joke in bad taste emoticon]

What an arse that man is. Lucky old Preston getting him for mayor, eh?

Carl Crompton if you google yourself - you are a, sorry, it is my personal view and not the view of mumsnet that you are, sorry, that your words and views are such that they make you, sorry, present a view of you that it could be argued makes you a great big fucking TWAT.

Esta3GG · 09/11/2011 09:45

What a despicable prick.
Why these sort of fuckmuppets think they themselves are immune to disability and illness is beyond me.
Who knows what fate has in store for Mr Crompton or his family.

MissM · 09/11/2011 09:45

He: Mmm, we need to add value to our house. What's a good way to do that without spending too much money?
She: I've heard that if you have a disabled child your house can be worth 3/4 of a million pounds
He: Great, let's do it.

What a horrible, horrible, ignorant man.

Mishy1234 · 09/11/2011 09:47

I saw this earlier, but didn't read the article.

YANBU OP. This guy is a twat and obviously has no idea of the challenges families face looking after a disabled child. On the plus side, he's made such a fool out of himself that nobody will take him seriously after this.

MissM · 09/11/2011 09:55

I also find it strange that he seems to think that people are moving into the area and therefore pricing out locals. Does he think that no-one in Preston could possibly have a disabled child, so it must all be outsiders coming in and taking all the big houses?

Dawndonna · 09/11/2011 09:57

My three disabled children have a better grasp of manners, are far more intelligent and a greater right to air than this wanker!
Angry Angry Angry

lovecat · 09/11/2011 09:58

I am lost for words. Well, actually I'm not.

"..if anything happens to the children..." WHAAAT?? Has he actually stopped for one second to think about what he's saying? (well, obv not) I assume he means when the children die, leaving the parents with a nice fat profit on their extended houses...which of course must have been their whole intent all along when they applied for planning permission...ConfusedHmmAngry

Has he ever visited one of these extended homes and seen the amount of equipment often needed to accomodate a disabled child's needs? And as for his ridiculous argument re. property values, it certainly doesn't put up the value of a house, most buyers would look at it and think they'd need to spend a fortune ripping it all out.

I feel sorry for the people of Preston.

Let's hope the fucker does google himself because CARL CROMPTON IS A COMPLETE FUCKWIT imho.
