This man has made one of the crassest comments I have seen. He has epitomised the current demonisation of people with disabilities and actually taken it to a whole new level.

Now I realise that this thread will bring out a whole heap of 'my neighbour's cat's uncle had a blue badge and he ran a marathon last week' type of comments. But I will ignore them - thats is what the DM comments page is for.

Just a few thoughts before I go and work with families who are clearly raking it in from haveing a child with complex needs

Having adaptations to your home is unlikely to ADD value and will put most buyers off.
Looking after a child at home will save the tax payers at least 2k per week per child
People who have severely disabled children often have to give up work to provide care - yes even when the go to school full time. How does your boss like you taking a few hours off to take your child to the dentist? Well imagine having 3 appointments in one week, a month or two in hospital per year plus being called to the school on a weekly basis because of seizures, temperatures, falls and unexplained prolonged bouts of crying... Still think you could hold down a job?

Not that I am vindictive or nuffin but I would dearly like to get a wave of outrage going to force this muppet to explain himself.

I am usually against kneejerk resignations as they usually mean the offender is let off scott free but in this case I would make an exception.

This man will be in a position of power. He will be a MAYOR. Ok its not the PM but it does mean he gets a say. Do we want people who regard children as disabilities as cash cows in power. What is this all about? A bit of projection going on Mr Carl Crompton?

DO YOU see a disabled child as a money making opportunity? Do YOU think its for the best when a child with complex needs dies? Would YOU use a child of yours to fiddle and manipulate the system to make money on your property?

Where do these ideas come from Mr Carl Crompton? They come from inside your head which frankly says quite a lot about how your mind works.

I have reported my post to MNHQ and asked if they would tweet on this issue. Someone might listen to them. I only have a couple of followers and I dont really 'get' twitter.

This man needs to be held accountable for the things he has said. He should have the opportunity to expain he didnt mean it like that

I think this man needs to spend a few days living in a non adapted house with a disabled child - he may gain an insight into why these applications for extensions are needed!

Okay, my twin is a wheelchair user. Eventually we are going to have to do the kitchen so that she can cook etc. This will DECREASE the value of our house because all the units will be at wheelchair height, meaning of course, that anyone wanting to buy will have to rip out the kitchen and put in a new one.
The man is an idiot, perhaps he'd like to come and discuss this with a pair of fifteen year old twins, taking into consideration he doesn't object to us, I can't see that he'd have a problem with it. I have Aspeger's Syndrome, as well as various co-morbids, but even with my ODD, ADHD and SPD, I'm better mannered and more intelligent than this moron.
Sister has Worster Drought syndrome among other things, she has a poor swallowing mechanism, can't see Mum rubbing her hands with glee about money if anything happened.
Mum says I'm allowed to swear but I can't find a word horrible enough, although there are some good examples on this site!
