To want to go and kick this man right up his ignorant arse

I am rushing off to work so sorry if this has been done.
I am also sorry for the DM link but they are rather good and this sort of story.

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2058976/Future-mayor-sparks-outrage-saying-parents-using-disabled-children-planning-permission-huge-extensions.html#addComment

This man has made one of the crassest comments I have seen. He has epitomised the current demonisation of people with disabilities and actually taken it to a whole new level.

Now I realise that this thread will bring out a whole heap of 'my neighbour's cat's uncle had a blue badge and he ran a marathon last week' type of comments. But I will ignore them - thats is what the DM comments page is for.

Just a few thoughts before I go and work with families who are clearly raking it in from haveing a child with complex needs Hmm

Having adaptations to your home is unlikely to ADD value and will put most buyers off.
Looking after a child at home will save the tax payers at least 2k per week per child
People who have severely disabled children often have to give up work to provide care - yes even when the go to school full time. How does your boss like you taking a few hours off to take your child to the dentist? Well imagine having 3 appointments in one week, a month or two in hospital per year plus being called to the school on a weekly basis because of seizures, temperatures, falls and unexplained prolonged bouts of crying... Still think you could hold down a job?

This guy is a fucking knob.

I am angry

Thanks for your email . I understand that Carl has expressed his apologies through the LEP and TV as well as directly to the family whose planning application the Committee were dealing with.

Carl is a caring person but his views were undoubtedly clumsily expressed. I know he was trying to make the point that homes in the rural areas, as a result of getting planning permission for extensions, were becoming too expensive for the children of local families. But certainly as printed in the LEP his views are reprehensible and I know Carl bitterly regrets saying what he said. It is sometimes difficult being in a public position, we always must be so careful what we say and how we say it. Sometimes we make mistakes.

As Leader of the Council all I can do is to echo his regrets and apologies.

Best wishes.

Peter

Frankly, I remain unconvinced.

Colour me cynical and wrap me in Whatever.

That sounds like a fob off with a big wad of fobbing off followed up with a pile of crap.
Angry

OhDoAdmit · 09/11/2011 21:32

Thank you for your reply.

'clumsy' and 'mistakes' doesn't quite cover it.

I have received a standard, cut and paste response from Mr Crompton.
I remain unconvinced.

HecateGoddessOfTheNight · 09/11/2011 21:34

what a load of shit that is.

What he said in no way meant what he is now trying to pretend that it meant.

He's just trying to save his arse.

stillfrazzled · 09/11/2011 21:36

No, be fair, it WAS the fault of the nasty meeja. Spitefully reporting what HE'D ACTUALLY SAID and all that.

The bastards.

stillfrazzled · 09/11/2011 21:38

And for the record, I do not have a disabled child so have no personal 'stake' in this story (beyond common humanity), but my blood's boiling and I'd consider moving to Preston just so I could pointedly NOT vote for this dickhead.

OhDoAdmit · 09/11/2011 21:38

Even though the papers are very norty and put their own spin on things..... How the holy feck do you make those reported comments out of something innocent?

You dont.

He is an arse and he knows it.

OP posts:
Sevenfold · 09/11/2011 21:39

of ffs we all make mistakes..
he is a future mayor, he should know better..... if it was a mistake and not just his vileness showing

Dd2s email:
Dear Sir,
I have Asperger Syndrome, as does my twin sister. My sister is also a wheelchair user. I am writing to Thank you for not objecting to our existence (see, even those with Asperger Syndrome can do sarcasm), although I could have done without the images of a victorian workhouse or worse today.
I am writing in the hopes that you show some sense of dignity, rather than the ill mannered approach you took in today's paper and apologise to the many thousands of disabled families in the country, including my sister and me.
I honestly think that at the age of 15, we have a clearer idea of manners, integrity and funnily enough the effects of disability aids on house prices.
I have no idea if you will read this, but I do expect an apology. We'll see whether it goes straight to your trash box or not.
Yours in anticipation,

Sevenfold · 09/11/2011 21:42

could mn hq get involved and contact him? they did get involved in a made up story on the tv, so ?

TheHumancatapult · 09/11/2011 21:45

Nah next week ge be banging on about Asians and or immigration

Stillfrazzled you could not pay me enough to move to Preston

TheHumancatapult · 09/11/2011 21:47

Well he better learn to shut his mouth instead letting his thoughts run away with him and how honestly can he sit on any planning committe with views known like he has done

Brings into question any negative descions he has made

spiderpig8 · 09/11/2011 22:03

I don't even think what he says is true.In this area planning permission is decided under a set of published criteria.Personal, social and medical conditions aren't considered.

Dawndonna · 09/11/2011 22:50

Reply to Dd2:

Hi (Dd2s name),
Will you please accept my personal apology to you and your sister, if I have caused you any distress or hurt your feelings in any way then I am truly sorry.
I have also placed an apology in the local paper and apologised on the local TV station for any distress that my comments may have caused to the many thousands of disabled people in the country .
Yours
Carl.

Dawndonna · 09/11/2011 22:51

I'm bloody proud of my 15 year old daughter.
Sorry, had to say so.

TeWihara · 09/11/2011 22:55

She did a wonderful job Dawn, I'm glad she got a more personal reply at least. (And, er, sorry about the extra swear words she learnt off MN - I'm sure they'll come in handy at some point WinkGrin)

Dawndonna · 09/11/2011 22:58

Thank you! Me too, but at least he had a last shred of decency to apologise to a child.
Oh, and trust me, she probably knows more than we do but didn't want to let on! Grin

Sevenfold · 09/11/2011 22:58

Dawndonna well done to your dd

Bossybritches22 · 10/11/2011 08:30

big hug to DD's DD2 !!

What a lovely articulate young lady, unlike the twat she was writing to.......Grin

OhDoAdmit · 10/11/2011 08:31

Good for her Dawn what a star!

I am still looking forward to seeing how his comments were taken so cruelly out of context.
I also have my defence ready should he seek to sue my arse for defamation.

'The internet did it m'lud, it took my words out of context'

GwendolineMaryLacey · 10/11/2011 08:36

"I have no objection to the disabled children"

What the actual fucking fuck? I bet parents of children with disabilities around the country heaved a sigh of relief at that one Hmm. What a knob end.

OhDoAdmit · 10/11/2011 08:37

I am currently having the mick taken out of my royally on FB for using the word 'boon' in my email.

I thought it added a nice touch.

Some contributors have confused funding with planning consent...

e.g.

".. Bet he hasn't actually seen an adapted house. Most people I know who have had funding for stuff like that have been given the absolute bare minimum. Any luxuries like a floor surface they could move safely on or heating have had to be paid for themselves or managed without. Not sure how many housebuyers think "ooh lovely, this cold damp garage has a hoist and shower in it, that's worth an extra 20k on the asking price! .."

Not the same subject at all.

Dawndonna · 10/11/2011 08:52

On behalf of Dd2,
Thank you.
