I didn't put anything on his form saying that I didn't want him to have cakes/biscuits/chocolate so maybe I am being unreasonable but I was a bit Shock to be told that the nursery had given DS a chocolate finger today. I said 'oh, really?' but now I am home I think that actually I am stupid for not saying something and now I feel annoyed with them and annoyed with myself.

What to do Sad? I have to say something. I was told that they feed the babies healthy food, no juice and so on so I thought they might know that chocoloate fingers for a baby that old is not normal? Or is it? Am I the weird one?

It's a good nursery, highly recommended and they haven't done anything I don't like before.

For me, and oatcake and jam is only marginally better than the biscuit only as oats are more nutritious than wheat (i think).
Fruit has natural sugar in it, but it's also got loads of vitamins and minerals and very good for you.
Ice cream is fine in an otherwise healthy diet but it is not healthier than fruit cos it's low in nutrients, apart from a small amount of milk.

I also think breadsticks and ricecakes are a bit crappy too. I only offer them alongside a nutrious dip or spread.

It's all very well for posters to say one chocolate finger won't do any harm and so on but given the size of your baby it's probably the equivalent of ten chocolate fingers for a full-sized person. Stick to your guns. Of course you must do what you think is the right thing for your baby. It'll be much harder to stick to healthy options when your DC's older and aware of what other people are having. Why are so many people apparently desperate to feed tiny children rubbish?

Ok I think I see, some refined carb snacks are easier to pair up with something nutritional than others, so they're ok.

It does seem a bit, well, illogical to me, to label some refined carbs ok and some not. But then, me and refined carbs do not have a healthy relationship at the best of times!

I think for my pfb I'll avoid all refined carbs that have a pretence of being healthy and just go for the choc because if they take after me, it won't matter how many grape juice sweetened biscuits they eat, they will still want the dairy milk after! Cheers :)

DF i agree with you, 10 month olds dont need chocolate. I cant believe how many people think it is ok!
We all know 1 choc finger is not going to kill him but am suprised that a nursery would give a baby one.
The Nursery i work in do not give anything like that in their babyroom However in the next room up children 16 months + they would have cake maybe choc buttons on party days ie christmas, easter, Halloween, but only a small amount and the parents are made a where of this.
