Came round today saying i have two weeks to sort my front and back garden out and tidy it up or else! He knows i have been suffering with severe anxiety after having a bad miscariage last year and being pg again has made me a nervous wreck, the neighbours bloody cat has shit on the gravel in my front garden, wouldnt be so bad but he had the cheek to blame my moggies even thought he knows i keep them inside due to said neighbours cat attacking them everytime they are outside. I am expected to clear up fag butts that people have thrown over my hedge as well. My back garden isnt that bad to be honest it's just a few kids toys a bit of weeding and the grass that needs cutting but it's all stuff that involves heavy lifting or being in contact with soil which could have cat poo in it!! So cheesed off right now so this isn't so much an AIBU but a good old rant. Not expecting sympathy just wanted to get it off my chest!

sorry UsualSus - but look at world news. your understanding of privilege involves looking up & seeing what you dont have, but you can look a very long way down.....

£10K = You're in the TOP 11.5% of the world

usualsuspect · 31/10/2011 20:27

well I hope she cut her bloody grass reeling

reelingintheyears · 31/10/2011 20:28

And there were no washing machines then.

Wash boards and mangles and stuff you only see in antique/curio shops now.

Mum says all the washing was hung to dry in her kitchen when it was wet weather.

gordyslovesheep · 31/10/2011 20:29

I'm not - but I don't get the difference either - my house had no floor coverings or curtains or furnitiure - you have to buy these things - council, private or owner - so I am not sure why people complain they aren't ;given' them

There are so very few social housing HOUSES available (blame Thatcher) that to have a house with a garden IS lucky - and in taking that on you KNOW you have to care for it.

I am not jealous though - I am glad I have never needed to be housed - I;d hate being told where to live by some pen pusher :D

ohanotherone · 31/10/2011 20:29

Many councils have indeed fitted new kitchens and bathrooms under the decent homes initative.

reelingintheyears · 31/10/2011 20:29

I think she grew veg instead of having lovely lawns.

nenevomito · 31/10/2011 20:30

TheRealTillyMinto - did you mean to come across as patronising?

TethHearseEnd · 31/10/2011 20:30

This is my house

reelingintheyears · 31/10/2011 20:31

TethHearseEnd

No,i live there!

SansaLannister · 31/10/2011 20:31

Who said anything about owning, OP? There are entire networks for council and HA tenants who want to swap housing across the UK. If you have a house, particularly a 3 or more bedroom one, it's quite easy to swap for a similar-sized flat. Unfortunately, I haven't come across anyone wanting to do so, however Sad Wink but would be willing to consider swap. Nearby or adjoining councils might also have noticeboards of people wanting to swap.

ohanotherone · 31/10/2011 20:31

I work in social services...once I had someone ring up and say "Get me a fucking mattress". I kid you not!!!

TethHearseEnd · 31/10/2011 20:34

You're lucky I let you see it, reeling.

usualsuspect · 31/10/2011 20:34

well I hope you are grateful for it tethers

reelingintheyears · 31/10/2011 20:35

ohanotherone
Had they chucked theirs in the garden then?

GalloweesG · 31/10/2011 20:36

That Global Rich List gives the same result whatever salary I put in. Load of arse.

Op - mow your lawn and do some weeding.

TheRealTillyMinto · 31/10/2011 20:36

nenevomito No - even when utter shit has happened to me & think it important to realise that much worse things happen in this world.

i find it a good way of dealing with hard times.

how come you find my approach patronising?

usualsuspect · 31/10/2011 20:36

We use the mattress in the garden as a trampoline

holdenmcgroin1979 · 31/10/2011 20:42

SansaLannister, i know of these scheams and if i had transport would consider it but i spent a lot of my hard earned money getting this house nice before the anxiety came along, i spent 2 months having the floors levelled and walls re plastered as the council wouldnt do it before i could move in all the time i was having to pay rent for a house i wasnt properly living in. dont get me wrong i am so gratefull to my housing allocation worker for getting me the house and do feel lucky that i have it as it's a nice house in a nice area but HO seems to be forgetting untill my problems came along i had been a good tennant, never been complained about did work to improve the property like having a patio installed instead of the pile of bricks and rubble i was left when i moved in.
