It makes my teeth bleed.

OP posts:

Pagwatch... Your post just prompted me, I didn't mean my post 'at you' in response. I've just remembered that I 'fawned' at your house picture anyway. Confused

I think that the term 'manshape' gets posted about and the defender pack comes onto the thread and bumps it up. I think that individuals must enjoy the topic to keep posting on it. I also think that Dee perhaps enjoys seeing the defenders rushing in. I don't really care either way. I'm sorry for any bereaved person, whatever profile they have.

Pagwatch · 29/10/2011 10:41

Fair enough Lying. Sorry. It looked as if you were responding to me but I unnderstand your your general point.

I guess it does always become about Dee although I am not sure she wants others referencing her and I am not sure she can be blamed for what others post. But it does seem very odd given that a current post about 'bitch' has about a dozen posts when this has 100s.

I should start one about 'old cow/hag/bag' . That's my bugbear.

LadyEvilEyes · 29/10/2011 10:47

Oh yes, old hag/bag is my bugbear as well. Very ageist, I always jump on people that use it.

worraliberty · 29/10/2011 12:21

Everything Lying has said is it in a nutshell for me

It is the suck ups, fawners etc...telling people they shouldn't post their opinion on a word because there's some sort of personal history behind it...also expecting everyone to actually know the history behind it when most people have never even heard of Dee is a bit arrogant.

That sort of 'special treatment' just tends to get people's backs up...well that and those who deliberately tried to take the thread off topic.

For the record, I've been on MN for about 10 months and this is only the second thread I've read about the word.

It puts me in mind of all the hoo-haa over Riven/Ribbon (can't remember her name) where people were shouted down for even mentioning her name...let alone having the audacity to ask what the hoo-haa was all about.

It was as though a certain minority spoke and everyone else had to dance to their tune.

Two words: 'Public' 'Forum'.

MenopausalHaze · 29/10/2011 12:29

Big like on worra's post.

Disclaimer: That was not fawning. Mostly I think worra is a total gobshite. Grin

worraliberty · 29/10/2011 12:36

Gobshite-shape if you please!! Grin

scottishmummy · 29/10/2011 12:41

So now cool it with the reason behind said phrase
This is just an excuse for some to suck up and try hint they know some mn history of sorts.frankly it's words on a screen not a dry your eyes schlocky story.it's not the phrase,it's the ooohhhh and ahhhh reverence some wish to Attatch to it

It's not the phrase it's the tippy toes some have around it,and any perceived criticism of it

All words on a screen innit

strangerintheday · 29/10/2011 12:46

I hate this word. Brrrrrrrr. Never heard of "dee". Did he/she do anything apart from popularizing this vile term?

TeamDamon · 29/10/2011 12:52

I think this thread gives the lie to your use of the word 'popularising' Grin

Hmm, wonder at what age DH will need the manshape underwear?

strangerintheday · 29/10/2011 13:00

popularize is not just to make poplular, but also to spread around

TeamDamon · 29/10/2011 13:06
akaemwahahahafrost · 29/10/2011 13:13

I can't believe this warrants a 300 posts plus (and counting) thread!

Honestly who gives a ....!

worraliberty · 29/10/2011 13:17

Yeah but minus the duck posts...it's way shorter than that Lol.

valiumredhead · 29/10/2011 13:19

I have just read the entire thread - I agree with akaem

strangerintheday · 29/10/2011 13:30

why did you read it then valium? incidentally yours is post 300ish whatever...

valiumredhead · 29/10/2011 13:32

Because I kept thinking it might get interesting Grin

akaemwahahahafrost · 29/10/2011 13:34

She probably thought that a 300 plus thread must have SOMETHING exciting on it being that length so kept on reading!

akaemwahahahafrost · 29/10/2011 13:36

Grin cross post Valium

strangerintheday · 29/10/2011 13:39

then, once you realized it is not interesting you decided to contribute another two rubbish posts to it... Hmm
i can highly recommend "war and peace" - that is gripping from the start and is truly worthwhile reading
a post titled "to loathe the word "manshape" (320 Posts) is a poor bet

Pagwatch · 29/10/2011 13:47

Rubbish post is a matter of opinion isn't it?

Let's hope there is no quality control on posting imminent. Few would survive.

akaemwahahahafrost · 29/10/2011 13:48

How many "rubbish" posts have you got on this dull thread then stranger?

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 29/10/2011 13:50

YY strangerintheday... I laugh at the posters who come on to complain that others are posting on a thread... it's always along the lines of "I can't believe that this thread is now 1 million posts on this subject that doesn't need to be discussed...". Ditto the "Can we drop it now?" morons... Grin

Without exception, the complaining poster looks a fool when they contribute to the thread; feigning disgust... and bumping it to keep it near the top where there is more chance of 'disgraceful and unnecessary' posts... and they think nobody knows what they're doing... Grin

strangerintheday · 29/10/2011 13:53

i have posted plenty of rubbish, i do not pretend my stuff is intellectually charged...

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 29/10/2011 13:53

akaem... Well obviously YOU give a ... about this thread too, you keep posting on it, seemingly just to make the point that others are posting on it.

But still, if we all keep on like this, it will get to 999 and then it will die a death... until the next one.
