It makes my teeth bleed.

Of course YANBU to loathe it, just as IAalsoNBU to quite like it. Its your right as a human being to choose what you like.

I loathe DH personally (the title, not the man) so maybe I will look for a nice nickname as well.

DooinMeCleanin · 28/10/2011 15:35

Haven't we done this eleventy million times before? Hasn't Dee already explained her very good reasons for using the term eleventy million times already?

MyDadWasADesertBat · 28/10/2011 15:35

It's a crap word and I agree with you.

But referring to it in an even remotely negative tone on here will open the gates of MN hell on you it would seem Nigel my love, so errr, like shutup said get your hard hat on.

Ridiculous really but there you go.

cantspel · 28/10/2011 15:36

I dont like it and it makes me want to gag everytime i see it.

I do wonder how accepting mn regulars would be to a man who constantly refereed to his wife in a similar fashion.

TheScaryJessie · 28/10/2011 15:36

So, as I was saying to FluffyCuddlyPomPomBear last night, I really fancy a Peshwari naan this weekend.

Pascha · 28/10/2011 15:36

Oh twelvety million at least, Dooin. This year.

Pascha · 28/10/2011 15:37

Really? A word makes you want to gag? Does your computer make it smell unpleasant or something?

OneHandFlapping · 28/10/2011 15:38

Despite having hung around here for several years, I've somehow missed the "very sweet reason" Dee has for calling her DH Manshape. It makes me boak too.

I hereby announce that I have a very sweet reason for calling DH Snookums, and I defy anyone who tells me to desist for reasons of boakery.

ImperialBlether · 28/10/2011 15:38

cantspel yes, can just imagine the outrage if a man did that. Objectification, dehumanisation, etc etc.

chocolateyclur · 28/10/2011 15:39

Hmm. It's one of the few that I don't mind. Each to their own, etc.

worraliberty · 28/10/2011 15:39

I don't know why so many people get annoyed when someone says they loathe it.

Dee knows some people loathe it and she still chooses to keep typing it...therefore if she doesn't give a toss that people loathe it, why does anyone else? Confused

ThisIsANickname · 28/10/2011 15:40

The things my husband calls me:
KitchenAid
Woman
Monster

But as I said before, if you don't like it then don't use it. I don't understand why some people who are apparently so turned off by the word have all flocked to a thread dedicated to it.

To each their own.

TeamDamon · 28/10/2011 15:42

I can't bear it either. Such a weird way to describe someone - when I see it, it makes me think that the person being described thus must have some fundamental thing missing - he's the shape of a man but not a man in essence.

SpookhettiTwirlerAndProud · 28/10/2011 15:43

YABU. It makes me chuckle :)

Although I am curious to know the reason behind the name. . . .

LemonDifficult · 28/10/2011 15:43

I can't stand the word 'preferably', but I think that, as a subject, it probably wouldn't make a very good thread

TeamDamon · 28/10/2011 15:44

Ooh, lemon - why don't you like it?

I find the word 'peculiarly' really hard to say and that's why it annoys me.

ThisIsANickname · 28/10/2011 15:45

I hate the word irregardless... or really, the non-word.

Secrecy · 28/10/2011 15:45

I don't think it should matter whether someone has a 'reasonable' reason for using it or not. If you want to refer to your DP / DH / DW in a certain way, do so!

blackoutthesun · 28/10/2011 15:45

i like the word manshape

Grin
ChippingInToThePumpkinLantern · 28/10/2011 15:46

What exactly does it have to do with you, how a poster refers to their husband/wife/partner? Why should anyone have to justify it?

Secrecy · 28/10/2011 15:46

Great minds, Chipping..! Grin

ThePopsicleKat · 28/10/2011 15:47

I don't find it an irritating term at all personally, but as it's come up before I'm now quite curious as to the reasons behind it. Nobody seems willing to explain though, is it a bit taboo?

TheScaryJessie · 28/10/2011 15:47

I hate the misuse of "disinterested" to mean uninterested.

SirHumphreyAppleby · 28/10/2011 15:49

I didn't particularly like it, but wouldn't have dreamed of starting a thread about it, as it would be incredibly rude, and obviously aimed at one particular poster. I now know the story behind it, and it is quite sweet really. Just ignore it if you don't like it.

cornycabana · 28/10/2011 15:49

isn't this a bit silly?
