It makes my teeth bleed.

CBA reading the whole thread. Is "manshape" a penis? Or a man?

Tia

Whatmeworry · 28/10/2011 21:09

Another vote for don't like it, and I also have never heard of Dee until this post so it's all lost on me. But hey, whatever floats boats.

BustersOfDoom · 28/10/2011 21:30

I don't like it either but only because if I were in the position of Dee's manshape and my partner couldn't bear to call me partner/other half/wife whatever because that was special to his deceased partner/other half/wife and had to invent a new name for me it would really bother me. I suppose almost like he hadn't quite moved on IYSWIM.

But that's just me and how I might see it and as Dee's manshape isn't bothered then that is absolutely all that matters. So long as they are both happy with it, who cares?

MenopausalHaze · 28/10/2011 21:37

I agree totally with LyingWitch and worraliberty!

Haggyoldclothbatspus · 28/10/2011 21:47

Another 250+ posts about this?? Shock
FGS get a grip! Hmm

TeamDamon · 28/10/2011 21:50

This is what Manshape actually is.

Each to their own but if DH's pet name for me was actually the name of a brand of support/control underwear for women, I'd be a bit gutted Confused

BlueAndBrown · 28/10/2011 21:51

I have lost track of the number of 'I hate the word manshape' threads I've read now!

Funnily enough I was reading a post earlier that Dee was on and she used 'manshape' a few times in her posts and I thought to myself 'haven't seen one of those threads in a while' and just a few hours later here it is! Good ol'mumsnet!

TBH if I were Dee I think I would have changed the word I use by now, but she doesn't have to. I guess she accepts that some people don't like it and is prepared to put up with these threads every so often to continue to use that term.

scottishmummy · 28/10/2011 21:56

It's not the phrase at all,the brown nose explanations of historical context and poster is the suckass part.look frankly if you want to call your man tallullah on mn then do so.expect some. To likey, some not.but all this it's soandso spesh name with significance is really over thinking it

Whatmeworry · 28/10/2011 22:33

I thought DHs' were only mentioned on MN when they were lazy/ arses/ faithless/ feckless etc. This manshape stuff seems to be Not Following the Rools :)

Sevenfoldedbloodybodies · 28/10/2011 22:37

yanbu(very late to say that I know) hate it

LadyEvilEyes · 28/10/2011 23:23

Well, rather drunk now, it's late, but really if it's what she wants to call her DH then that's it.
I honestly don't know why anyone would want to start a thread about it.
Live and let live.
Or worst things happen at sea.
Or something.
I'm getting old, but that was definitely an expression my grandad used.

Moominsarescary · 28/10/2011 23:36

Ah makes sense now, I thought she must be abit pissed off with him when I first saw it. makes me think he looks like a man but doesn't act like one, maybe hes abit of an arse or something but obviously not

I'm not keen tbh but each to their own

worraliberty · 28/10/2011 23:38

Your Grandad had a manshape too?? Shock Grin

QuintessentialShadyHallows · 28/10/2011 23:39

Well, maybe he needs them..... Wink

QuintessentialShadyHallows · 28/10/2011 23:40

ehh.... xpost. not referring to anybodys grandpa

worraliberty · 28/10/2011 23:42

I did wonder! Grin

LadyEvilEyes · 28/10/2011 23:45

My grandad is long gone.
I know we're getting of the subject, but please someone, reassure me that it used to be a popular expression.
Fuck knows what it means though.

GalloweesG · 28/10/2011 23:55

Will somebody think of the ducks!

EmmaBemma · 29/10/2011 00:00

I don't know who Dee is and I don't know what a manshape is. I'm not even sure why I've just taken the time to read three pages of this thread, before typing this out, and then clicking "post message", as I'm about to do, but I'm committed now.

I wish someone would take this laptop off me and force me to go to bed.

LadyEvilEyes · 29/10/2011 00:23

Well ducks as cute quacky things that you feed bread to.
Or rapist zombieducks.
Which duck are we thinking about, and then I will make my decision.

It's boke surely, not boak?

Pan · 29/10/2011 00:50

there's many more objectionabe phrases used on MN surely than manshape? "Derailing" for example. "Sock puppets". Phrases/words that posters just absorb effortlessly. Manshape is specific to dee, iirc. And yes bleeding teeth is a sign of tooth decay, or gum sensitivity. I'd sort that probelm out first before starting a thread about use of manshape. Prioritise FGS.Grin

giyadas · 29/10/2011 00:50

never heard boak 'til I came on MN. I always knew it as cowk.

Moominsarescary · 29/10/2011 00:50

lady yes my grandad uses the same expressions
