I was just browsing a computer forum ( I sometimes take a cheeky dive into the post a picture of yourself thread, some of the guys on there have some lovely jumpers) and I noticed they had a mumsnet thread.
Do you think this thread has good criticism about us? HERE
Sorry I am using a throwaway account as I don't want that forum to know that I am a girl who just goes there to look at the pictures of them.

Really, Ka?

I'm embarrassed for people who write off an entire forum based on something as stupid as the media's current interest in it.

Nobody with an ounce of sense takes that seriously anyway. It's a fad. When the media get bored of mumsnet, and the politicians think that they can get more votes/better pr by cosying up to a different group, they'll move on to something else and mumsnet will be dropped like a stone.

There is a lot that is great about mumsnet. And the support that is given to members in need, well, I have never seen the like of it on the net - ever. It's not once, it's not twice, it's a culture of helping and supporting members.

(ok, there's plenty of rubbish too Grin and the fights in AIBU are nothing to be proud of Sad and I am not a fan of the overuse of the effing and blinding) but the good far outweighs the bad.

Mmmmm, kind of unny how this thread was started the day after the PH one was locked. I'm guessing a frustrated PH'er started the thread on The geek forum. Sad twat.

i agree with some of those posts, especially this one

"No, you see when there is a stupid post on GD it often comes under heavy criticism and the OP is mocked. However on mumsnet it is the complete opposite, they endorse the OP and shun anyone who has a differing opinion"

mn has always had a whole lot of cliquey posters and its a PITA

well thought i may as well join up as i spend enough time reading the drivel in AIBU.

Surpsrisingly all of us over at "that" other forum are not illiterate 15 yr olf wannabee wife beaters. some of us are caring doting husbands and fathers. (i would have replied sooner but i was wrist deep in poo from DS2)

have to say i quite like it here i might just stay, now show me your motoring and computer sections :)

Overclockers forum is full of teenage boys up to the age of about 60 who historically liked to ramp up their cheap celeron and duron processors to high clock speeds in order to save some pennies. Some of them used huge fans and even liquid nitrogen in their efforts to achieve the biggest dick gain in clock speed. (I confess, i have dabbled in overclocking, since in the days when it was actually cost effective, I used to build my own PCs, but they're so relatively cheap now and I have other things to do, so I can't be arsed.)

They probably don't do that any more, but they're probably trying to run linux on their iPads and they probably all still live with their mums, which is why they think they know so much about mumsnet.

I'm also confused, is this meant to be a family friendly site? (Genuine question here?) Surely the very name of it is a big clue that it's not somewhere for kids to come and 'chat'? Hardly the kind of site your average 11 year old would be on?

And ps, I VERY rarely swear in RL!! I don't like gratuitous swearing! Just doing it on here because I can, and it annoys you! Grin

"offensive language isn't acceptable in a public place so why should it be acceptable on a public forum?"

When in public I am around my children, other children, older folk who may disapprove etc. Mumsnet is a public forum, but one that is aimed at adults, not children.

Anyhow, if any of us are offended by the swearing on here we could always move to netmums or another forum where it is moderated, but it's more fun on here :)

You should all have a read through Mumsnet Classics, that should get you all hooked Grin

There are other forums that offer support to members in need, Mumsnet isn't the only one.

The media hold Mumsnet up as being representative of today's mothers.

Well, I don't know anybody in RL who has a much drama as anybody on here. And I certainly don't know anybody who swears so much.

When I came here, I thought it was a middle class (for want of a better description) sort of place. It is more akin to Chav City with farting, belching, swearing chavvy women.

The thing is, I'm sure you can't all be like that in RL, so why come on here and pretend to be something you're not Confused?

Well, I've slightly aroused one of them, which is more appreciation than I've ever got from here.

I'm off to join them.
