a drunk conversation on a girls night sparked the conversation of shaving down there.... i was very surprised to hear that out of 11 females only 3 still had hair down there.... Its not something i ever thought about before, and in the conversation i was 1 of the 3 that wasn't completely bare down there lol i am now the center of several hairy jokes, which doesn't bother me as they are quite funny... But anyway, as none of us no each other on here my question is are most people bare down there?

There is a world of difference between being influenced by fashion and being brainwashed by a misogynistic culture though isn't there?

TheVampireEmpusa · 26/10/2011 19:00

"Otherwise I assume you're wearing a whale-bone corset and hoop-skirt instead of skinny jeans?"

Actually, in my case, I own and wear those things.

microfight · 26/10/2011 19:01

Just asking because I'm interested.......

Those that whip the lot off do your partners get sack back and cracks?
Is it mainly women who take the lot off and if so why is that?

I prefer just a trim thanks but maybe I'm showing my age.

SlinkingOutsideInSocks · 26/10/2011 19:02

Not necessarily - not if the dots join a certain way.

Look, I wear make-up. It makes me feel better about myself. I like the rituals and the improvement on my appearance. Interesting though, that my husband has zero need to use make-up to improve his appearance and feel better about himself.

I can still see the blatant double standard and expectation on women in this regard, an expectation that doesn't exist for men.

Take the blinkers off and open your eyes. If you want to do something then do it - have the courage of your convictions, but don't pretend it's all happening in some utopian vacuum.

mrszimmerman · 26/10/2011 19:02

catgirl, no not a world of difference imo.
Fashion is dominated by gay men who have an odd attitude to women.

catgirl1976 · 26/10/2011 19:03

My DH shaves fairly regularly. I don't ask him to, he just does. Doesn't take it all off but he keeps it neat.

And I have boned corsets too.....i was a goth in my youth and it has never really left me....... :)

catgirl1976 · 26/10/2011 19:04

Utopian vacuum? No - it happens in my bathroom and that's not how I would describe it. It's more an ok-ish black and white affair.

mrszimmerman · 26/10/2011 19:05

I respect you catgirl.
Do you frequent that exotic shoppe of the daughter of the Body Shop Woman, what's it called? It's like really posh sex toys etc. What's it called. Coco la mer? Is it? Lovely jade dildos!
Screens Matron!

SlinkingOutsideInSocks · 26/10/2011 19:07

The point's that way -> about 50 metres off to your right. [hwink]

microfight · 26/10/2011 19:09

I know many men keep it neat as do many women. I am curious as the ratio between men taking every single last hair away to women doing the same.

I am really showing my age but I have never met a guy who shaved his pubes only ones that have trimmed.

Judging by this and other threads it is completely normal for under thirty women to do this out of choice. Because they prefer it etc., If this is the case then why is it generational?

catgirl1976 · 26/10/2011 19:09

Oooh I haven't been mrsz but I have always wanted to :) Next time I am in London I may go and will report back to you! :) I love the vintagey look of the website

countessbabycham · 26/10/2011 19:17

Would someone please tell me if I'm being brainwashed by a misogynist culture?

It's just I don't know what that means Smile

microfight · 26/10/2011 19:28

I am fairly shocked that anyone entering the medical profession would find a natural and normal fanjo something to snigger about down the pub!

What would the conversation be "Guess what happened today, I saw a fanny with hair on it" "No Way ha ha ha"

WTF!!!!

SlinkingOutsideInSocks · 26/10/2011 19:36

See, it's all supposed to be about free choice and doing something because you, as an individual want to...

And yet it's that one judgy comment way back on page one about midwives sniggering, which has had more impact this thread than anything else - left people feeling insecure and pressured. Even vulnerable. Like people might laugh at them.

This in itself does nothing to persuade me that a lot of people - notably 30s and younger - are not so much doing this through uninfluenced free choice.

LuzLuz · 26/10/2011 19:59

Tsk, tsk - has NO ONE read their Haralambos?

Rarely is anything we do completely uninfluenced by wider society.

SlinkingOutsideInSocks · 26/10/2011 20:09

Confused Are you using this as your chance to intellectually name-drop?! Plenty of people on this thread are saying wider society has an influence on our choices...

Bugsy2 · 26/10/2011 20:11

LuzLuz - Oh, yes me - puts hand up at the back of the class! Haralambos was the bible of my Sociology A level! I tried to make a few wider society points - but its a long time since I did Sociology A level!!!

TheVampireEmpusa · 26/10/2011 20:22

"don't pretend it's all happening in some utopian vacuum."

I'd be happier if people stopped pretending we are all carbon copies incapable of independent thought.

Beaverfeaver · 26/10/2011 20:25

I am not naked down there, and hardly ever do it.
But all my friends say that it brings a massive spark back to the love life with their DP's.
Thinking of doing it as a surprise to DP for when we go away this year.
Not too sure if I could cope with the pain or embarressment of it though

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 26/10/2011 20:41

slinky Haralambos was/is a GCSE Sociology textbook. I imagine Luz was referring to that, rather than namedropping.

I couldn't agree more with you, btw.

LadyWord · 26/10/2011 20:52

Haralambos!!! That takes me back... (to my dreadful, boring A-level sociology lessons - but I did like Haralambos). Oooh, epiphenomenology - that was my favourite bit. It says a lot for that book, that I can still remember that word after - shit it's 25 years [hshock]

countessbabycham · 26/10/2011 20:53

Is Haralambos anything like Starmix?Confused

FabbyChic · 26/10/2011 20:56

Ive had a brazilian for over 10 years, and I only do it for myself as no one else sees it. I feel dirty with hair.

I shave though and never get a rash or itch.

schroeder · 26/10/2011 21:13

Poor Martin Holborn, I bet he wishes he'd got his name on that book first. [hsad] (he was my sociology teacher btw, lovely chap).

FormerXibishonist · 26/10/2011 21:18

Thanks FabbyChic for getting back to the point. Was getting a bit deep and meaningful for a while
