purse in their bag, zipping their bag up, faffing around really annoy me. Can't they just move to the side so someone else can get served. AIBU to be pissed off with them? (Yes, I do have PMT)

There was no self-checkout, MrBlooms. There was noone else serving either; no other queue.

I'm on medication which makes me confused and messes with my co-ordination. It's highly stressful and anxiety-making when people rush me at the tills. My Mum has Parkinson's, and she has the same problems.

Please stop tutting, rude people!

Oblomov · 25/10/2011 18:22

Drives me mad. We should have 'fast aisles' and 'slow lanes'. We do on motorways. And you would be cross if someone was pettering along in the outside lane at 60mph, whilst a queue of traffic was waiting to overtake. so why should this be any different?

TotemPole · 25/10/2011 18:22

I don't consider putting your purse away properly as faffing. Neither is looking for a tissue, if you feel a sneeze brewing then a tissue is important. Fixing her scarf before moving away is a bit faffy.

I take as long as I take. I pack in a way that's easier for me to carry. I'm not going to do it once at the till, move away and then do it again. I get my purse out when I've finished, otherwise I have to hold it while putting things in bags. I'll put my change/card & purse away before I move on

But then if I have a basket full and there's someone behind me holding one or two things, I let them go ahead of me.

GalloweesG · 25/10/2011 18:26

Perhaps we should speedy tills and tortoise tills. If you're super efficient and want to rush through then speedy tills are for you. If you know that you're a bit dazed and confused then head for the tortoise tills.

DartsANDthefunkypumpkin · 25/10/2011 18:27

I am reasonably fast when at a checkout. However, I have ended up forgetting to take back my card precisely because of an impatient woman behind me in the queue pushing me out of the way.

I suggest you tutters get over yourselves. Every person in that shop has the same right to buy goods there as you do and I believe you should plan your time better.

oldraver · 25/10/2011 18:29

I dont like supermarkets and by the time I get to the checkout I am really ready to go home.. Today I could feel my chest tightening and knew I had to get out of there..

However I will not allow some one to needlessly hurry me along and if you start inching your trolley into the back of my legs I WILL take my time. I dont fart around and am pretty organised, get the stuff into the trolley with as little fuss as possible but I really cant understand the need to go at breakneck speed and what seems like a rush, rush attitude.

I like a bit of calmness going through the tills, but boy, today I was sorely tempted to tell the assistant to stop wittering on.. He moaned and moaned

OriginalGhoster · 25/10/2011 18:30

GalloweesG

That's what I said earlier, for the speedy till they could charge an extra £1?

belledechocchipcookie · 25/10/2011 18:30

There's a huge difference between someone who is taking their time and someone who is faffing around. Their facial expressions are very different. It's a small shop, she could have moved down the counter to check her bags/pocket but she chose not to. I did not 'tut' or 'sigh'.

You are a heart attack waiting to happen...

(We've all been that soldier though!)

belledechocchipcookie · 25/10/2011 18:33

Pay an extra pound for a bottle of lemonade which cost £1.25? I think not.

OP posts:
TalkinPeace2 · 25/10/2011 18:35

go to waitrose - self check - pack as you go around, pay and leave. bliss

Oblomov · 25/10/2011 18:36

OriginalG, thats what I too said a minute ago.
But why should the speedies need to pay the £1 ?
They are in effect doing the supermarket a favour, by enabling more customers through the tills.

It's not rushing to have the right change in your hand before you get to the till, nor is it rushing to put the reciept in your pocket rather then go to the trouble of folding it up, placing it into a purse you've just closed, having to close it again, then putting it into the bag you've just closed, then needing to close that. Surely life's too short to do things like this?

OP posts:
Ireneiswaiting · 25/10/2011 18:42

I really don't have time or inclination to get that worked up about it to be honest. Life is much easier and less stressful if you stop getting worked up by stupid things like how long someone takes to put change in their purse. Count yourself lucky that you are able to be quick and organised, it must be lovely for you.

Scaredycat3000 · 25/10/2011 18:43

Honestly, same old, same old, if you are going to post an answer read the thread. The problem was not that the customer took ages to sort her purse out, or put the shopping she had just bought in a bag, she re-sorted all her shopping that she was carrying, from different shops, she stood at the till, blocking it whist she found a tissue in her pocket for later, not because she needed it at that moment! This has nothing to do with age or mobility, she was doing totally unneeded things, it is selfishness, pure and simple.

belledechocchipcookie · 25/10/2011 18:43

Herbie: you're not faffing, you're doing what you're able to do and going at the pace your body allows. You're not standing folding your receipt into little squares and checking your pocket for a tissue you don't need. I'm disabled, I'm still curtious enough to the person behind no to faff around and block the till once I've been served though.

belledechocchipcookie · 25/10/2011 18:45

Thanks, Scaredy. I don't think people do read the thread sometimes. Smile

How many times do you honestly get stuck behind 'faffers'? Some of you are either intolerant or tragically unlucky.

I think I must be one of those who causes queues to lengthen. While packing, I am watching the display screen that shows the prices being charged for items. If I see something at a dearer price than I thought it was or bogof was not registered, I ask for clarification. While this takes place, perhaps with a supervisor involved, I always turn to the people behind me and apologise for any delay for them. They always say that they do the same sometimes.

HeadsRollingInTheAisles · 25/10/2011 18:50

Faffers are one thing but the people that really annoy me are those that continue their chat with the cashier when they're all paid and packed already, arghh.

TalkinPeace2 · 25/10/2011 18:51

has anybody else ever offered to help people who are clearly struggling with their packing?
it often goes down extremely well
