purse in their bag, zipping their bag up, faffing around really annoy me. Can't they just move to the side so someone else can get served. AIBU to be pissed off with them? (Yes, I do have PMT)

Tchootnika · 25/10/2011 16:17

Thanks for being a decent human being, Bogey!
belle have you thought of maybe breathing deeply/looking around you/smiling/offering to help aforesaid lesser beings instead of just standing there getting pissed off?
During your Superdrug summer, did you ever take the apparently unprecedented step of politely saying to your slow shoppers soemthing along the lines of 'You can start packing now, if you like' or even 'Would you like some help packing'?

Thought not.

While we're on this, how does anyone feel about those twatty disorganised arseholes who plan their time really badly then stand around sucking their teeth and hissing in supermarket queues? They really piss me off.

belledechocchipcookie · 25/10/2011 16:18

Grin I just wanted a bloody drink! (I did say above I'm premenstrual)

OP posts:
MrsStephenFry · 25/10/2011 16:19

I simply don't believe someone stood for 5 full minutes (which is eons when you are standing waiting) without moving said woman on. Till person hardly stood there for 5 full minutes.
Nope, not having it.

belgo · 25/10/2011 16:20

'You have spent longer on MN moaning about it than you did waiting in the queue!' good point bogeyman.

I imagine that for some people with autism/OCD/anxiety going to a shop could be very stressful - the world is made for the young, fit and healthy and above all you have to be fast.

Tchootnika · 25/10/2011 16:20

Well I'm bloody premenstrual too, belle. Angry
(Why else would I be on MN, FFS?)

iFailedTheTuringTest · 25/10/2011 16:21

But as I said, its got nothing to do with rushing, for me. It is just the lack of respect the faffer shows.

I don't mind standing there all day if it is someone elderly, or sen etc. If I was genuinely in a big hurry, id just go elsewhere.

It's the 'ive got my stuff, you lot can just wait' attitude of the faffer that gets my goat.

Yes there are worse things that can happen in life, but I really don't want to spend time dwelling on them right now which is why I joined a more lighthearted discussion like this.

belledechocchipcookie · 25/10/2011 16:21

I didn't need to ask Tchoot, I would pack for them. I don't mind a few minutes, the world doesn't stop. 5 minutes pissed me off though, as do people in the queue in the cafe who then start buying coffee one by one for all 7 of their friends so they don't have to queue. Hmm

alwayspoor · 25/10/2011 16:21

Yabu of course. Hate the rush at the till. Smile

ShatnersBassoon · 25/10/2011 16:22

It wasn't 5 minutes. Count 300 seconds, then reconsider how much of your life this dawdler wasted. Probably less than a minute.

OriginalGhoster · 25/10/2011 16:23

Why are you in such a hurry? Not everyone wants to live at breakneck pace. Where we live, people chat to the cashier and to the people in the queue. It makes shopping more enjoyable.

Maybe they should have a fast track till for people who are in a hurry, and charge a little extra for the service?

belledechocchipcookie · 25/10/2011 16:25

The poor woman on the till looked like the pharmasist. She didn't say anything to the customer, she didn't look too impressed though. There's a clock in Boots, I had nothing else to do but look at it Wink

I couldn't go elsewhere, there was no one else serving (small shop). The elderly can faff just as much as the young, have you never been in M&S on pension day? Don't assume that they are slow because they are old. They just want to make you suffer!

OP posts:
belledechocchipcookie · 25/10/2011 16:26

It was 5 minutes, the clock said so.

I needed a drink and was bursting for the loo. Surly there's some times in a girl's life when speed is needed? Wink

NinkyNonker · 25/10/2011 16:26

How dare someone put their change away, they should inconvenience themselves to make sure they don't inconvenience someone more impatient, rude important.

Fifis25StottieCakes · 25/10/2011 16:27

Ive just been out shopping for the 1st time in ages with 3 kids in tow. You were probably stood behind me.

Never again

I thank the lord for online shopping.

belgo · 25/10/2011 16:27

So why didn't the pharmacist reach over her bag, take your drink and scan it in? That's what they do in Belgium, they never wait for you to finish packing before serving the next customer, and that's why I've ended up losing things at the till.

RefereezaWanka · 25/10/2011 16:28

The opposite annoys me. People who stare, tut, sigh etc when yo are just trying to stuff your change back in your purse and grab hold of your shopping. Have some fucking manners!

NinkyNonker · 25/10/2011 16:28

I agree, in that circumstance the checkout person was just as unreasonable/inefficient.

duchesse · 25/10/2011 16:28

Jeez, people really need to learn to slow down a little bit! Consider that the person in front may be: old, have alzheimers, mobility problems, be pregnant, be learning disabled, dyspraxic, simply not rushing at the ridiculous and stressful pace that most people seem to consider normal. As others have said, if that sort of thing really annoys you, do your shopping online.

ShatnersBassoon · 25/10/2011 16:29

Yet you never said 'Could I just pay for this please?'. You and the pharmacist just stood, waited and watched the previous customer piss about with their belongings for 5 whole minutes? She must have been hypnotic.

BupcakesandHaunting · 25/10/2011 16:30

"Why are you in such a hurry? Not everyone wants to live at breakneck pace. Where we live, people chat to the cashier and to the people in the queue. It makes shopping more enjoyable."

Not breakneck speed, no. Just the normal amount of time it takes to pay, pack and leave.

You might find it more enjoyable to prattle on about inane titbits to queuing people. They probably just find it annoying.

VeronicaSpeedwell · 25/10/2011 16:30

Yes, the woman in my example was exceptionally odd and rude. But I really loathe this hard-nut atmosphere which seems to have grown up in busy situations, where some people seem to regard everyone else as being the competition rather than fellow travellers/shoppers/humanity.

belledechocchipcookie · 25/10/2011 16:31

I don't know belgo. I paid and was out of the shop in 3 seconds.

You should have been behind her Ninky Hmm Have you read all of the thread?

Having three children with you is OK Fifi, people can wait. Likewise for people less able. A perfectly healthy, young woman who looks through all of her bags, then faffs with purses, zips, checks pockets for a tissue, ties her scarf is a bit too much don't you think? She should have moved to the side after paying and done all of this.

OP posts:
Dotty342kids · 25/10/2011 16:31

Oh Belle, I'm with you on this one! I hate faffing, dawdling and a lack of awareness that anyone could actually be under any kind of time pressure!
Personally I think there should be designated shopping days for anyone over the age of 60 or infirm - that way those of us who are slightly on the impatient side could get on with it safely on the other days Wink

vickibee · 25/10/2011 16:32

go to my local supermarket at 630am to avoid Qs and it really annoys me when there is self-serve only. You have a big trolley full and have to scan it all yourself. If the opening times are 6am til misnite it should be full service. The store is empty so I get it done in next to no time which suits Ds who doen't do shopping!!!

belledechocchipcookie · 25/10/2011 16:33

There's a fine line between having patience and having the piss taken. You can be polite to the cashier and be quick.
