this . Have I missed something? Why would someone want this?

I had a response Blush - sorry, I forgot to come back and tell you all. I asked him whether the auction was for a picture and not the items, and whether or not the auction was for real or not. He replied early this morning and said that the actual items had been sold, and that this auction was for the photocopy.

I felt compelled to reply "Why?" but as yet no response. I'm guessing he's had too many of these to delete (all from MN).

Weird.

HairyBeaver · 19/10/2011 22:20

Maybe his had loads of the same question that's why he edited his listing?

Oh well screw him!

Didnt realise you could retract a bid? Confused

Blu · 19/10/2011 22:25

I think it is a secret message between spies.

Possibly connected to the Boy in the Forest case. Someone should tell Pan.

"Venn you reach Berlliner, ja, put ein advert on zee eebay for und liitleteich"

Bohica · 19/10/2011 22:30

I only found out about retracting bids during the great wetsuit debacle.

VivaLeBeaver · 19/10/2011 22:34

I've asked him why the description says black and White photo when the actual photo is colour. I've told him I'm interested but only if it is black and White and also only if he's prepared to courier it to me.

HairyBeaver · 19/10/2011 22:39

I've just sent him "hi if I was to win this item can I please have 246 copies? Also could I also have a copy put in a pretty frame please? I would of course pay extra and the courier fees. If you could get back to me and let me know that would be great" Grin

ReastieHorrorShow · 20/10/2011 06:18

i'm Grin at all these questions he's now getting from mners. Maybe we should just all ask him ten really specific odd questions about the item to drive him mad filling his inbox, passive aggressive style, more sly than a bidding war maybe (although retracting bids is good, didn't know you could do that)

blu that's definitely the most plausible reason yet - knew the emigration story must be a cover up Wink

"Surely these people should be reported to ebay for misleading?"
I did Blush. Reported him under two counts, one for miscategorising (putting a picture into garden toys) and one for fraud. But eBay are completely shit at responding to reports, I have reported loads of posting for breach of copyright (scanned copies of textbooks) and the listings never come down and the sellers are never thrown off.

So it's not my fault the listing has been taken down now, OK? Wink

VivaLeBeaver · 20/10/2011 10:33

I bidded on a similar thing last week, though in my case I don't think it was a scam.

I thought it was a set of card making stamps and got really excited as bi was only at 99p. The photo was of the stamps but the bumph did clearly state it was for bits of paper with the stamped images put on them.

Now in fairness it was my fault for not reading it fully. And at 99p that was still an ok price for the images. But it was miscatagorisation maybe as it was in the stamps section of card making. Anyway I was outbid.

ReastieHorrorShow · 20/10/2011 14:27

has anyone heard anything else from him yet?

OP posts:
bruffin · 20/10/2011 14:29

He's cancelled the auction!

ReastieHorrorShow · 20/10/2011 14:29

I just checked and he's ended the auction. It says the item is no longer available. That's a shame - I really wanted the photocopy. Do you think if I ask nicely he would do another one for me Wink

OP posts:
ReastieHorrorShow · 20/10/2011 14:30

xposted bruffin. So I guess I'll never know what the intentions were then

OP posts:
bruffin · 20/10/2011 14:42

It will haunt you for the rest of your days[hgrin] (actually we really need an evil cackle smiley)

Bohica · 20/10/2011 16:44

Aw we will never know his true intentions! This is the reply from my message sent last night.

"The quality of paper is the normal found down the high street in the photocopy shops.

And yes, I am amazed at the popularity of this auction! 2110 hits! And someone has bid - WOW

And yes, I'm "just plain boring with too much time on your hands whilst you wait to emigrate" It can't come quick enough. But we are having a laugh as we go!!!!!!

When are you placing your bid?

Ah now I think I may have scared him off with "Yeah I know you have a bid, you do realize 50 MN'ers plus their off spring will be coming to collect their photocopy? It's a joint bid don't you know"

Blush sorry about that Blush

ReastieHorrorShow · 20/10/2011 16:48

bohica it's all your fault then Angry Wink

so someone did bid before he shut it down? Come on - who was it

OP posts:
LynetteScavo · 20/10/2011 21:53

bohica, you ruined our fun!

threestepsforward · 20/10/2011 21:59

This happened to a good friend of mine about a billion years ago on e-bay. He thought he was buying some PC kit, and what he won was a link to a site where he could buy said PC kit.
It said somewhere in the listing, no doubt so small you couldn't see it, that the auction was for a link to a site.
Awful! He paid about £80 too.
He did follow it up but I can't remember what happened. I think they can argue they were clear in the listing details?

Bohica · 20/10/2011 22:05

I did it for the good of the nation I tell ya.

Come on spill, who placed the bid? It had to be one of you lot as the listing had been changed to "YOU ARE BIDDING ON A BLACK AND WHITE PHOTOCOPY"

VivaLeBeaver · 21/10/2011 08:33

He's answered my question and said it's only a black and White picture not a colour picture. He said I can arrange my own courier. How odd.

ReastieHorrorShow · 21/10/2011 08:56

what viva he answered that after he shut down the lot?

OP posts:
VivaLeBeaver · 22/10/2011 14:14

Yep, answered after he shut the auction down.

Bohica · 22/10/2011 15:07

Maybe Ebay shut it down on his behalf, how many of you reported his listing?

Not sure Ebay can do this but it may be an option.

Is his boat for sale? I may need to ring him to get clarification Grin

DuelingFanjo · 22/10/2011 15:14

All his seller history is from 2010 bar a couple of recent things, he's emigrating so maybe he was chancing it. The item was collection only though, bizzare.

ReastieHorrorShow · 22/10/2011 16:06

duelling see, my logic is, if he was chancing it, surely he would have done it with an item which is posted so the buyer wouldn't hunt him down know where he lives. It would surely be very awkward too if someone did fall for it, go to collect garden toys only to be given a photocopy by him Confused
