I love this forum so much , I wrote an entire routine about it . Would you like to see / hear it ?

OP posts:

Also the pronunciation thing, that's just so stupid. This website is the written word, so how the hell would she even know how people here pronounce things. That's why it's so lazy. Just think up a list of annoying middle clarse things and then stick them on to Mumsnetters. Yawn.

bibbitybobbitybloodyaxe · 16/10/2011 22:40

Fair enough Thunders. I've done with this thread. Would have liked to have heard from the op or the comedienne herself again.

begonyabampot · 16/10/2011 22:47

Actually there have been loads of threads on pronunciation, seems I learned I have been pronouncing tortoise wrong all my life and don't let's start on scone.

dearprudence · 16/10/2011 22:53

It was poorly observed and therefore not even a tiny bit amusing.

Haggyoldclothbatspus · 16/10/2011 22:57
Grin I quite enjoyed it! Obviously she hasnt been everywhere, but as someone wanting to write a piss taking comedy sketch, shes not far off!
southeastastra · 16/10/2011 22:58

it was a bog standard stand up routine

not worthy of 600+ posts unless i missed something

prioneyes · 16/10/2011 23:05

I am sorry but really, I don't understand why this has to be a feminist thing. Bitches = not nice but then there are plenty threads on here where people will respond to an OP with "Don't worry, she sounds like a bitch ..."

She made jokes about a stereotype. If it breaks your heart to hear the forum mocked like that then perhaps it's too big a part of your life. Anyone who has ever spent any time here at all will realise that her jokes are just that, jokes.

I honestly think the twisted knickers over this are exactly what you would expect from the sort of person she's outlined in her sketch!

thunderboltsandlightning · 16/10/2011 23:39

Well as it's just me who's going on about it now, what bothers me is misogyny i.e. women being called bitches and violence being fantasised against us.

And hey, I don't understand why people here aren't offended at being called bitches, because that seems really weird and masochistic. It's not a joke, it's an insult.

I also fit zero of her stereotypes and would put the bankers up against the wall after the misogynist comedians. I still don't think it gives her the right to hate on women like that though.

Whatmeworry · 17/10/2011 07:42

Misogyny and violence? - Oh please.

I hope her next skit is about the faux feminists on this thread :)

jasper · 17/10/2011 07:46

quite funny.

KreepyInMind · 17/10/2011 08:06

Some people can laugh at things others can not, I do not have to look for misogynistic views here there and everywhere as I am happy with who I am and there is no man on earth who could put me down, I do not need to keep playing a victim and saying "oh bad people picking on me cause I have a womb"

jugglingwithpumpkins · 17/10/2011 09:07

I said I'd get back to you after I'd watched it ....
Well, I do think she was more after a cheap, easy laugh from the men in her audience, than getting a real, "that's so true", belly laugh from the women.
I agree with the poster who said it was poorly observed humour and therefore not funny. I love good observational humour but this wasn't it ...
This site is a good place to be for a lot of people, so much support to those experiencing really hard times - how can you ignore all of that in favour of tired old stereotypes ?

KreepyInMind · 17/10/2011 09:14

But if someone has something serious to say then they do not post it in AIBU

Proudnscary · 17/10/2011 09:18

As I said up thread, I have no political/feminist objection to it but thought it was obvious, lazy and, well, rubbish. Didn't laugh, not even a twitch of a smile.

HeadlessLamAAARRRGHHHH · 17/10/2011 09:25

A question for those ladies who found it funny: would it have been as funny if it was performed by a man?

JodieHarsh · 17/10/2011 09:30

I am finding this row highly amuse.

"Human Beings In 'Not Everyone Finds The Same Things Funny' Shock"

PosieIsSaggySacForLemaAndPigS · 17/10/2011 09:38

Quite attention seeking OP, although I suspect it's more material finding.

thefirstMrsDeVeerie · 17/10/2011 11:21

Headless probably not but then I find jokes about chavs unfunny if told by a public school boy - pretty funny if told by someone who is working class. I dont like posh people taking the piss out of me. I like sharply observed humour (although I wouldnt say OP was sharply observed tbh).

Same with jokes about being black, being gay, being disabled.
Chris Rock does wicked routines about 'blackness' that no white comedian could pull off.

rycooler · 17/10/2011 11:37

headless; I've seen some pretty awful posts on here about Jeremy Clarkson and any other man who isn't 'in tune with his feminine side' > - I don't care if you're a man or a woman ( although men tend to be funnier than women on the whole ) if you're funny you're funny - I like to mix with people who are quite light-hearted and don't take themselves, or life too seriously - that's why I don't mix with feminists, life's too short.

Whatmeworry · 17/10/2011 13:26

No, it is far funnier coming from a woman because I can imagine Mummeees just like the ones she parodies on here.

Maisiethemorningsidecat · 17/10/2011 15:09

Depends on the man delivering the comedy, but I tend to agree with Whatmeworry - the women she pokes fun at do exist on here, just as they do in RL.

Psammead · 17/10/2011 15:39

I thought some of it was funny, but the ending was a bit extreme for my taste. Good effort!

I especially liked 'Am I beeeeiing.... Unreasonable?'

Jux · 17/10/2011 16:00

I think you missed a trick, op, as there are MUCH funnier threads in AIBU than any of those.

exoticfruits · 17/10/2011 16:37

I don't think that it would be funny if it was a man-you can imagine the women she parodies-and they do exist. I do however agree with Jux-there are far funnier threads on AIBU.

rycooler · 17/10/2011 16:52

No, it wouldn't have been funny coming from a man - she's a woman laughing at other women - that's ok. ( a man lurking on this site for comedy material would come across as creepy ) - why would a man ( who isn't a parent ) be interested in Mumsnet? and there's only about 10 men on here at the best of times.
