I love this forum so much , I wrote an entire routine about it . Would you like to see / hear it ?

OP posts:
FlossieFromCrapstonVillas · 16/10/2011 11:17

I'd still go to see her at a gig. All publicity is good, (as they say.)

PeachesMelba · 16/10/2011 11:19

Well said, Fergus.

And no, thunder, she's referring to a certain minority on here. And as you can see from the posts in this thread, they know who they are.

thunderboltsandlightning · 16/10/2011 11:20

I'm not pretending to be a comedienne like this woman is though Ry.

I can own my dullness, which is why I haven't attempted a career in stand-up comedy. She on the other hand thinks people should laugh at her calling women bitches and fantasising about violence against us.

Sad thing is people do because misogyny is endemic.

I thought at least people who post on Mumnset wouldn't like being called bitches. Apparently not.

ShowOfHands · 16/10/2011 11:20

S'alright. It's the stand up version of greggs sausage rolls and fruit shoots hooted across a thread. Based on a load of erroneous tropes and is slightly lazy comedy.

But nice accent.

Also assume op isn't the comedian.

thunderboltsandlightning · 16/10/2011 11:23

Actually Peaches she isn't referring to a certain minority. She's talking about everybody who posts at Mumsnet. She doesn't distinguish. So feel free to feel collectively insulted.

Also do you really think her violent hateful response to that supposed minority is reasonable. It's the Marie Antoinette syndrome. Blame a rich woman for all the crap rich men pull (bankers in this case). It's just such pathetic man-pleasing I can't get over it.

rycooler · 16/10/2011 11:30

Thunderbolt - I'm not sure - but I don't think she was being serious.
Do you believe everything you see and hear in the media? - if I thought everything was true I'd be jumping off buildings like spiderman because I saw it in a film - I'd believe all secret agents had cars that could turn into planes and boats because that's what happens in James Bond - I'd believe all nuns could sing because they can in the sound of music and sister act - >

diddl · 16/10/2011 11:35

Yup, all women on MN are smug bitches in the same way as all MILs were whatever stereotype Les Dawson used & all whatever/whoever Jim Davidson made jokes about were just as he said.

And whether or not you find MB funny, surely she is a comedienne as that´s how she makes a living?

thunderboltsandlightning · 16/10/2011 11:36

I don't know what you mean by "believe". Do I believe that this woman is a misogynist and she was transmitting misogyny in her act to the misogynists in the audience. Yes I do.

Violent imagery and threats might not lead directly to violence but it supports a culture where that kind of thing is acceptable and goes uncommented upon and unchallenged. Jokes where women are called bitches also reinforce sexist beliefs and hatred of women. People understand that about racism and racist insults, why not about sexism?

Anyhow I'm still not clear why people aren't insulted about this. If you're a regular poster on Mumsnet, she does mean you.

SleepyFergus · 16/10/2011 11:37

Ry.....do you mean Spiderman isn't ^^ real????

I'd better cancel my ticket to Austria and take that habit back to the fancy dress shop then. Thatsmy dream of an idyllic lifestyle dashed then....

(oh look, i didn't swear, clever little me!)

LadyEvilEyes · 16/10/2011 11:40

It's just a comedy routine.
You are taking this way too seriously thunders, and totally overthinking it.
If Mary ever reads this thread she has a rich source of material from your posts alone.

thunderboltsandlightning · 16/10/2011 11:42

If Mary ever reads this thread maybe she'll stop being such a misogynistic dick and actually try and be funny in her act instead. :)

But I think the applause and cheers she was getting from the boys is probably too attractive to her.

working9while5 · 16/10/2011 11:53

"OK the women who post on here if you want to split hairs. She's including you in her insults you know, working."

So? Do I care? Do I actually think she's going to attack me with a machete?
As for setting this up as misogynistic/antifeminist etc, what - no one female can have an opinion on what women do or don't do because that's betraying the sisterhood? Look through the discussions on AIBU today or any other day, the mental energy that is being expended by educated women on this thread and on what it means to have an issue with a workman defecating in your toilet or the merits or demerits of parent and child parking and ask yourself what the real feminist agenda should be. If you hit "last 15 minutes" AIBU is always included and it receives more traffic than most of the other threads put together.

I think it's a disaster that women seem to be so filled with rage and bile about the everyday and that probably reflects a broader reality about our society and women's place in it. I think it's a terrible shame that AIBU overshadows the support that MN offers to a wide variety of women in a wide variety of situations e.g. who have suffered bereavement, have mental health issues, need support with legal or employment issues, want to make sense of their experiences of childbirth, talk about feminism or connect with others in similar situations e.g. with children with special needs etc BUT whose fault is that?
Where does the media perception come from? Well, from the ridiculousness of AIBU, let's face it. AIBU is quite often horrendouly myopic and middle-class and I absolutely agree that this thread just serves to underline the navel-gazing nature of MN.

And to be honest, I think I deserve to be insulted for wasting my valuable mental energy on trash like this. Funny threads are great but the RAGE and self-righteous indignation that fuels AIBU is just pathetic and is a far bigger betrayal of the sisterhood than some comedic routine on you-tube.

AngryFeet · 16/10/2011 12:00

Well said working9while5

People really do take themselves way too seriously on here sometimes.

Lighten up people! It is ok to laugh at yourselves you know Wink

AngryFeet · 16/10/2011 12:01

I think I would go to a gig just to listen to her accent.

Tis lovely.

diddl · 16/10/2011 12:05

I have to admit the "Am I being unreasonable" made me chuckle.

(Easily pleased emoticon)

Didn't find it particularly funny. The material was tired and her delivery wasn't great tbh. Her timing was just slightly off. And from the first laugh I thought it sounded like canned laughter added on afterwards.

I'm not offended. I just didn't find it funny.

As many others have said, MNers are much wittier about taking the piss out of themselves than any other comedian / comedienne.

And I'm amused by all the people who are amused by the "smug MNers who recognise themselves in the routine" - no one's offended, I think a lot of people just didn't find it funny.

HTH

AitchTwoOh · 16/10/2011 12:38

she's a bit of a wimp for not engaging, isn't she?

DeepPurple · 16/10/2011 12:59

Not a great effort really. You can tell you haven't actually spent any time on the forum though. You definitely haven't done your research.

No mention of pom bears, nice ham, poo pooffes...

LadyEvilEyes · 16/10/2011 13:04

As others have already said, I doubt it was Mary Bourne who actually posted this.
I do wish the OP would come back though.

SuePurblybiltFromBitsofCorpses · 16/10/2011 14:07

Thing is, had she written about MN in-jokes, it would have gone down well at the MNHQ Christmas Party and that's about it. Kind of a limited audience.

So she went with bitching about MC Mummies, kind of viciously, for the larfs from the mens. I'm not offended by that as I couldn't be further from the stereotype but I am a bit Hmm at the bitterness. That's not the reason it's not funny though; it's not funny because it sounds like someone reading out a bitchy editorial piece - too wordy and not snappy enough. Self-consciously clever-clever, like a piece for the sixth form newspaper.

begonyabampot · 16/10/2011 14:16

Well I've been on here a few years now and have no knowledge of all this pomme bear, goat, and wolf stuff or what the joke is so doubt many of the in jokes would translate outside. And yes there are some very funny posters but I wonder if they could put it together in a stand up act, deliver it and actually make people laugh, I think it's probably a kittle harder than some people here seem to think. I liked her delivery and would pay to see more of her stuff but then I obviously hate myself for being a woman and am easily pleased.

LadyEvilEyes · 16/10/2011 14:28

I think her Mum probably posted it.

SuePurblybiltFromBitsofCorpses · 16/10/2011 14:30

Oh, her poor Mum, I hope not Blush

I assumed that one of the 'Mumsnet Sucks' types posted it. Straight after colouring in the picture they did of the streets running with our blood and all.

Thzumbazombiewitch · 16/10/2011 14:39

It was all right, would have liked to have seen it as well as heard it - but your ITV4 Stand Up Hero spot was heaps better, especially the Amanda Holden bit! Grin
