I love this forum so much , I wrote an entire routine about it . Would you like to see / hear it ?

OP posts:
BleachedWhale · 14/10/2011 17:34

Working9while5 well, yeah - but what MN-ers say about all that is generally funnier than what MissComediENNE says - and that's why it's rather unsubtle - it's so OBVIOUS.
MN-ers constantly take the piss out of the board.

Not a bad but dig a bit deeper, OP!

JamieComeHome · 14/10/2011 17:35

Exactly BleachedWhale

Feminine · 14/10/2011 17:35

I enjoyed it.

It was subtle IMO.

Just light hearted fun!

mycatsaysach · 14/10/2011 17:36

true of some of us jamie but not so much on this thread iyswim Wink

JamieComeHome · 14/10/2011 17:37

ISWYM Wink

Ireneiswaiting · 14/10/2011 17:37

I thought it was ok, but it didn't really reflect Mumsnet. I've seen funnier posters on here as BleachedWhale says and they're closer to the bone.

diddl · 14/10/2011 17:42

But it´s not supposed te reflect mumsnet, is it-just the public´s perception of it?

Maisiethemorningsidecat · 14/10/2011 17:50

It was only a what - 3 minute sketch? Only so much she can say in that time, but she nailed one aspect of the site.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 14/10/2011 18:06

I'd be happy to laugh at myself, but being a middle-aged, overweight brunette who shops at tesco, doesn't drive a 4x4, can't wear boden (because they don't make it in her size, doesn't have a bob, doesn't drink pinot grigio, or do yoga, never took the the kids to tumbletots, buys paint from B&Q own brand range or Dulux, and has fat lips (to go with the fat rest of her), there is so little of me in her stereotype that if even if I had laughed, I wouldn't have been laughing at myself.

I am a bit Hmm at those who are characterising the few comments about comedian/comedienne as some sort of frothing feminist rant, though. IIRC, a couple of people have commented negatively on this, at least one other has asked why this is, and I have explained (from a neutral standpoint), and expanded on that explanation when it was insufficient. Hardly frothing. But maybe exaggerating what was said for effect is more fun than accuracy?

FlossieFromCrapstonVillas · 14/10/2011 18:07

Oh, Robot. I don't think she was meaning to diss that side of Mumsnet. Of course it's a wonderful source of support for many people but there are some parts that are ripe for a comedy routine.

FlossieFromCrapstonVillas · 14/10/2011 18:09

Come back OP!!

Robotindisguise · 14/10/2011 18:10

You know what? Laughing along to this sort of thing is like being young George McFly in Back to the Future. Why the fuck should we laugh? To prove we're not out of touch Bodenistas? I don't need to prove that to anyone.

The reason it's pissing me off so much is not because it's touched a nerve (oh for a bankers bonus frankly, or anything like it) but because it's misogyny. Laughing at mothers for being mothers is misogyny. God knows if society can't stand one thing it's women talking to each other about a subject other than men, unless it's to take the piss out of other women which is socially entirely OK. If there were a Bechdel Test for real life, that would be the exception that proves the rule.

So we have that link up there, which we're all expected to be Good Sports about, and we have one of my close childless female friends expressing shock that her male friend has to look after his new baby for a couple of hours to give the mum a break when he gets home ("I mean, she's been home all day, he's been working") and rather than really looking at what mothers do, and what it entails, we pretend that if they find looking after a small baby harder than full time work, that their jobs just can't have been that much cop and they must just be risible, pathetic fools. Which brings us around full circle to the link at the top.

pigletmania · 14/10/2011 18:10

OOOh there is a thread on AIBU about a workman using the loo for a poo, you could use that for your set op Smile

Robotindisguise · 14/10/2011 18:12

Thank you Flossie but I'm not feeling charitable. Because that side of the site is all people talk about and it's annoying the crap out of me.

FlossieFromCrapstonVillas · 14/10/2011 18:17

Yes, you sound very angry, Robot. People can see for themselves whether the stereotype is true or not though. There is humour to be found everywhere, even Mumsnet.

diddl · 14/10/2011 18:21

I don´t get that she was laughing at mothers for being mothersConfused

rycooler · 14/10/2011 18:21

You ad' a bad daay Robot? >

Robotindisguise · 14/10/2011 18:22

Yes there is, I accept. I'm just in the grip of feminist rage

GreenEyesandNiceHam · 14/10/2011 18:26

I'm not in the least offended by it.

Didn't laugh at it either mind.

JamieComeHome · 14/10/2011 18:26

Robot - I totally get what you are saying.

JamieComeHome · 14/10/2011 18:31

What I heard was some men roaring with laughter at the stupid women she's portraying

Robotindisguise · 14/10/2011 18:36

Thank God for that Jamie, I thought it really was just me Grin

giyadas · 14/10/2011 18:36

Jamie - yep.

JamieComeHome · 14/10/2011 18:38

Have now finally read the whole thread. Don't worry Robot - there are a few of us out here.

FlossieFromCrapstonVillas · 14/10/2011 18:41

I don't think Mary cares, we're talking to ourselves!
