was reading some magazine in the dentist, there was a woman from dragons den iin the mag.
saying how she had a wardrode worth 3 million.

and she went onto say well i work hard for it.
so ideserve it.
and something todo with she sees her expensive clothes as a symbol of how sucessful she is.

really made me feel sick, how a horrible nasty attitude to have in life.

i'm sure even if i was a millionaire, i would not be proud about spending that much on clothes.

i don't know its just the arrogant im entitled to this that got me.
and dont they think people how have less also work hard. probably alot of them work alot harder

what do you think

Proudnreallyveryscary · 10/10/2011 23:20

I used my supernatural powers to drive your computer. Didn't you see the mouse starting to glow?

And it's no use looking at the "off" button like that. I can see you and I will turn it back on if I want.

TheMitfordsMaid · 10/10/2011 23:31

Careful Dandylioness, Steiner threads can get a bit controversial. There'll be google alerts popping into inboxes PDQ. Mark my words, they'll be here any minute.

Ok.. lets put it this way.

I am not working but have sold my shoes on Ebay for £100.00. I spend £50.00 on an outfit. £50.00 left. Bonus!!

I have made 10 million, I spend 3 million on clothes; 7 million left. Bonus!

Are you being serious? If I had millions I would probably shop at the places that charge alot.... couldn't really see myself at the market picking up a 21.99 jacket. (unless it was fabulous).

Shopping habits change as income does, as do peoples expectaions of how you dress.

It is a very savvy woman who can turn up in a £29.99 suit and expect a milion dollar deal.

YABU and need to put things into perspective

To create and grow a successful business requires some luck (eg being in good health) however it also requires drive, determination, ambition, vision, inspiration, good judgment, risk taking, guts, self belief, leadership and being unsentimental. These are the characteristics that people like Bill Gates, Michael Ryan, Philip Green and Simon Cowell have in spades and is why they are phenomenally successful. Those who are successful but in a more moderate way (ie not millionaires!) also have these characteristics. To focus on one thing ie luck to the exclusion of the other 10/11 things I have listed is a touch disingenuous d. Notice I haven't said "hard work" because people focus on this attribute too which again masks the real drivers and it is why it is so polarising. So when people focus on HD and say that yes she worked hard but so can anyone and she must have had good luck, which is true, can they honestly say that they are equally as driven, determined, ambitious, visionary, inspired, have good judgment, risk takers, gutsy, lorry loads of self belief, leadership and are unsentimental.

Xenia · 11/10/2011 10:23

I agree. It's a mix of factors. I wouldn't really call m yself an entrepreneur although some elements I do share with that description, set up on my own etc but the characteristics I have in part are similar to those above. I am sure I am the best at what I do in the UK. I can take measured risk. I try and fail but keep trying and some things do work. Richard Branson and his mother were interviewed in this week's Sunday Times magazine. His mother said 99 of 100 things he tried failed but he kept at it.
Luck comes into it a bit. Good health does. So does liking what you do. Sometimes people say I wrote a lot of books and that must be hard. However it's not hard in terms of knowing what to write. The hardest bit was... it's Saturday. I've worked all week. I could spend 2 hours doing my nails or helping with the children but I'll sit down and do nothing but type words for 2 hours. It's much more about effort than talent although I've just contradicted myself as I said I thought I was , nay I am, the best at what I do in the UK so I must imagine there are some elements of talent there.

Did you see the lady when she was on Secret Millionaire? she was one of the warmest people they have ever had on there. She gave away loads of money. She has had an incredibly hard life and her only child is a heroin addict.

Good luck to her.

Some students on my course had placements with IBM in 1987 and they had e-mail - I remember being excited that my then boyfriend (working in Basingstoke)could e-mail a family friend's husband who worked for IBM in Paris!

Proudnreallyveryscary · 11/10/2011 12:54

So I'm being spied on by arrow-wielding piglet and the Steinies?

Gulp.

i think these people should walk a mile in another persons shoes before saying such things...alot of people work hard and work a alot harder for a lot less...and still dont have a multi million pound wardrobe...does annoy me too...much like celebrities who act like saints for donating a couple of thousand to charity and going on holiday and holding a few poor kids hands...when they have millions and millions in the bank being spent on craziliy expensive rubbish.

Slacking9to5 · 11/10/2011 13:43

If they didn't have millions, they wouldn't give thousands.

I assume you don't give thousands a year away?
