To think our neighbour is weird and to be wary of him?

We live in a quiet cul de sac and we are on nodding or chatting terms with nearly all the neighbours.....but the man who lives at the bottom...4 doors from us, is reserved and never says hello unless you REALLY look him in the eye and he cant avoid it....fair enough....but......my DC are 7 and 3 and the 7 year old goes out the front which is all open plan and rides her bike a lot....I usually keep an eye on her from the kitchen window

Whenever she does, he appears at the front of his property and messes about with something....he loiters iyswim.

Hes never actually DOING anything, just now he was sort of pushing his bin around...repeatedly re-positioning it.

My 3 year old wanted to go out so DH went with her and thats when he saw the neighbour kind of peering at our older DD from the cover of his garage...he was JUST inside and half hidden. Hmm

I cant see his house from my window as it's on my side....

AIBU to ask the police for one of those disclusure things?

This man lives alone and is about 55. He seems "normal" if shy/anti social.

I should add that when DH spotted him, he came out and began to mess with the bin.

could he be worried that your DC's will crash their bikes into his car or accidentally cause some sort of damage in another way? i live at the end of a cul de sac and sometimes a group of boys from the other end of the street come down and skateboard or ride their bikes at our end. I don't loiter out the front but I DO peek out the window to make sure they don't scrape my car! Smile

Do you really think he might dart into the street, grab your DD, and drag her away to do something unspeakable? Or are you just getting a little prurient thrill out of impling a man who lives alone is somehow "unsuitable" and shouldn't leave his house when your children are playing outside in case he... what exactly?
Why not sharpen your pitchfork just in case? It'll save time when the mob forms to bay for his blood and smash up his home.

He's probably thinking your DD is going to cycle over his flower beds or something if it's "open plan"! Or annoy him with noise etc. Sometimes folks who live alone get very fussy about what seems trivial to us.
Maybe he can't abide kids full stop.

I feel so sorry for any bloke who happens to live alone these days.. if they so much as go out of their house they seem to be accused of being a paedophile, and no doubt if they stayed in, someone would be on here wondering if they were downloading child porn...

Worra......I am in the kitchen a lot...hecomes out the moment she does. Until tonight I was prepred to think it was coincidence...but he was fucking HIDING in the garage LOOKING at her until DH came out! DH saw him before he saw DH....then he came out and piddled around with his bins

Maybe you should confine your DDs to your back garden. Just in case. Or go and stand outside with them whilst they are out front. To put him off.

Maybe he's got a nice car he's worried about getting scratched, or he's concerned about bikes being ridden over his lawn - are there flowers there?

Incidentally our next door neighbour watches people from inside his garage. He isn't a very nice person and tends to shout at people he doesn't like or who step onto his property, so we tend to avoid going out the front to play on the road.

Well, if you are suspicious of him, what are you going to do about it?
Nothing he is doing is illegal. I'd just make sure that your DD understands about the rules of playing outside, like not going to other people's houses without asking you first. You need to teach your children to be pro-active about their own safety and confident.
Unless you are planning on petrol-bombing his home?
