to think the Daily Mail should not show photographs of horrific animal cruelty on its website?

I would urge you not to look, but the fucking DM have a still from I guess an animal rights video showing how fur is farmed (from apparently live animals) for the manufacture of fake Uggs.

How can I complain to them about this? I do not want to go back to their vile home page to seek out an email address, and I am not going to click on the link so that I can comment below.

I am beyond disgusted - with the vile Mail as much as the animal torturers.

OP posts:
GetOrfMo1Land · 04/10/2011 13:29

Oh dear - thank you for NOT linking it.

Is it worth complaining tii the Mail and asking them to take the page down?

I remember being hideusly upset when I saw a picture of a dog which was used as meat in the far east, it's front legs broken and tied behind its back, and a jagged tin can used as a muzzle. Heartbreaking and I can still see it now.

TheTenantOfWildfellHall · 04/10/2011 13:33

Oh GetOrf - so can I now! That's awful!

I knew that fur is farmed from live animals - I suppose it saves the cost, time and effort of killing it first. Hmm

I've no idea what you can do about it. I can't imagine they don't know it's there though...

GetOrfMo1Land · 04/10/2011 13:35

I had absolutely NO idea that fur is farmed from live animals Shock

What the hell is that all about? I wear leather shoes and eat meat so I supposed I can't be too mealy mouthed, but those animals are skinned alive? Jesus wept.

GetOrfMo1Land · 04/10/2011 13:36

Sorry wildfell - that was a bit graphic re the dog.

youmeatsix · 04/10/2011 13:37

perhaps they are thinking bigger picture

if people see it for themselves perhaps it may have more impact for the cause
so upsetting a few may be worth the risk

lets face it, we all KNOW it goes on
i bet you did before today
did you think to post a thread about it before now?
its making people aware
and may just have a positive effect

MilicentBystander · 04/10/2011 13:41

Sadly, this is nothing new.
I first read about skinning animals ( dogs, IIRC) alive some years ago.

LaurieFairyCake · 04/10/2011 13:42

I'm not reading the article as I can't bear it.

I'm totally confused by why they would use it for fake uggs - I thought it was sheepskin? Surely they don't skin sheep alive for it?

havinhoops1974 · 04/10/2011 13:45

im not trying to be offensive but the three most shockling animal rights things I have ever seen are from china :/ I think perhaps maybe an overhaul in law over there.

the worst I have ever seen is bear intesntines used for shampoo whilst they are still alive :/ i was shaken for days.

bemybebe · 04/10/2011 13:47

Demand creates supply. If people know what unbelievable cruelty their desire to have fur items creates, they may stop buying it.

DM was right to publish those pictures. Sad

jesuswhatnext · 04/10/2011 13:54

tbh i think its a good idea to show it! - i was made aware just last week that there is now a trade that passes real fur off as fake/faux Confused and considering that 'fur' is all over the catwalk this a/w its something we should know about - i have no problem with vintage real fur and wear it myself, but i would not buy 'new' real fur.

Roseflower · 04/10/2011 13:54

Tbh you will find animal rights activists doing the same. When they are in town with their stall they have shocking images on flyers and placards.

Sometimes people need to be shocked into action IYSWIM?

Vallhala · 04/10/2011 13:58

YAB totally U.

People need to know these things, to have it brought home to them graphically sometimes, in order for consciences to be pricked and change to be made. Why the fuck should animals continue to suffer and die to protect your sensibilities when we know that showing these things brings about a change in public opinion and educates them to the realities of animal abuse in the fur and other industries?

It's no good burying your head in the sand and effectively saying "If I don't look it's not real and I don't have to face it" or the like because all the while you do so animals are being ripped apart and skinned alive, screaming in agony, shitting themselves in fear, pouring with blood and totally helpless.

Remember that next time you buy a pair of shitty Uggs folks.

And all power to the AR activist who made this public. Shame we all get treated like scum from the Ugg wearers.

Suckstobeme · 04/10/2011 14:04

DM were right to post this. Horrible but its happening right now somewhere. I understand how distressing it is though OP. I myself couldn't watch it personally. But I'm a bit of a tree hugging vegetarian so I find even the smell of flesh being cooked/eaten highly distressing!

threeinmybed · 04/10/2011 14:17

Valhalla I don't understand about Uggs, I thought they were faux fur? And with trade in real fur being passed off as fake, would that be able to happen in big high street chains such as Next, or John Lewis or River Island? Or would it be more likely to be independent retailers, or cheaper stores?

thenightsky · 04/10/2011 14:18

Totally with Vallhala on this one. The more information is thrust under people's noses, the more likely something will get done.

Ormirian · 04/10/2011 14:20

"I am beyond disgusted - with the vile Mail as much as the animal torturers."

Goodness! Why?

LaurieFairyCake · 04/10/2011 14:23

Val - I'm now really confused - I thought it was about fake uggs not real ones ???

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 04/10/2011 14:25

threeinmybed Uggs are made from sheepskin. The boots in the story are imitation Uggs.

GetOrfMo1Land · 04/10/2011 14:26

Mind you, this thread has educated me that this appalling practice goes on, I didn't have a clue before.

I have read elsewhere that real fur is dyed funny colours to make it look fake Hmm

All this for fake Uggs which people buy from ebay. Urgh.

threeinmybed · 04/10/2011 14:27

I know laurie I just read the article Val posted and it seems to say you pretty well cant tell the difference, because some manufacturers cut off labels that say 'made in china' and stamp on their own 'made in australia' stamp. If it's that hard to tell, I'm sticking to wellies this winter.

threeinmybed · 04/10/2011 14:28

jenai like the fake Uggs you can buy in River Island for £30 a go?

TheControversialJessie · 04/10/2011 14:29

Faux fur could be real fur? Fecking hell.

MarginallyNarkyPuffin · 04/10/2011 14:31

The responses on this thread show that they were right to publish the pictures. People obviously still aren't aware that manufacturers are passing off real fur as fake - sometimes cat or dog fur.

Also, every time we have a thread on here about real fur, comments are made about it being no different to leather which is a by product of the meat industry. This shows the reality of fur/skin farming.

I hate seeing the images and they haunt me. They need to be seen.

jesuswhatnext · 04/10/2011 14:32

appearently, it is cheaper to dye real fur and pass it off as faux than it costs to make faux fur, something i think we should all be aware of.
