to put my make up on on the tube?!

I would rather have 5 minutes extra in bed than almost anything - if I could shower on the way to work I would do. I almost always leave the house make up free and put it all on while I'm on the way to work.

My friend stayed over the other night and travelled in with me - she was totally unimpressed with this and thought it was really weird. I do sometimes get some odd looks from commuters too. I don't see the problem. Anyone else?

Although I did see the error of my ways this morning when I bumped into my neighbour on the bus and had to chat away with him while trying to avoid looking at him. Difficult. So AIBU and a lazy slattern? Or is there no problem with this?

Why not take your ladyshave and do your armpits while you're at it? Or clip your toenails?

Seems at bit "look at me" tbh-but if you don´t care, why do you care what other´s think?

It's a bit weird, but harmless enough. People will stare, and wonder why you couldn't sort it out before sharing a small space with them or why you can't wait until you get to work, but you don't seem to mind about that, so carry on.

It's bad form and bad manners but it's your face, your make-up, you're harming nobody so you do as you damn well please matey!

It was, I believe, way bak 100 years ago that a starlet caused a huge rumpus for applying lipstick whilst in the theatre. Shouldn't we have moved on by now? After all, we have in far more unpleasant ways, eating in the street, peeing and worse in public, drunken behaviour... surely a bit of make-up applying is the last of societys worries?

Yanbu. It is 100x less offensive than eating kfc, listening to loud music, yabbering on your phone, picking your nose, stinking of bo, begging for money, busking, masturbating, urinating, vomiting, vandalising, stealing, groping and all the other anti social things I have seen people doing on the tube.

I saw someone clipping their toenails on the tube once, BLURRRRRRRRRRRG!

I wouldn't want to do all my makeup on the tube but I have been known to adjust/apply blusher etc on the tube if I'm running late or something.

i don't like it I must admit.

I prefer it, obviously, to the heinous eaters, chompers, shouters, loud ipodders, stinkers, drunks and the violent. But that goes without saying!

I think putting on make up looks intimate to me, a bit like watching anyone do intimate things, picking, scratching readjusting. I'd prefer not to see it but I wouldn't go on a march against it, there ARE worse things but that doesn't make it right imho.

I've seen a surprising number of ladies plucking their facial hair on buses and tubes - and I'm not necessarily talking eyebrows either .

I always watch with fascination (I'm a make up artist). I think a quick lipgloss & freshen up is ok but I don't like to see the whole process.

I'm with you OP. Would much rather have 5 minutes extra in bed. Am impressed that you can physically apply makeup whilst on the tube though!

I haven't done it and wouldn't (what would my grandmother say!) but I wouldn't really bat an eyelid were someone else to. I used to have to start my commute so early I can sympathise with you.

Amazed anyone would even notice. I spent all my tube journeys stuck in a book or fast asleep.

Put makeup on at home and you get to spend the journey sleeping

Wouldn't care in the least. I do get annoyed by car drivers doing their make up at traffic lights for obvious reasons, but that doesn't apply to you as a tube passenger.

Don't mind people doing this (am quite impressed at their dexterity sometimes), but am a bit at anyone filing or trimming nails or anything that involves some 'waste product' like that. The worst thing for me is people spraying perfume or other scented stuff, gives me a headache in a stuffy enclosed space.

Yanbu, I get far more annoyed by people playing music.

Hate it, really hate it. It's harming me when you flick your powder all over me or force me to wear the same perfume as you. I had an early commute too when I got the train and I did mine at work when I got in. I still do, except I drive in now thankfully.

Yes, powder-flicking and smells would definitely be annoying... so would smelly nail varnish. If those aren't involved then still yanbu but yabu if not.

Wow - guess it annoys more people than I'd realised!! I did see someone cutting their nails on the bus the other day, and another woman I used to see all the time would brush her hair and then take the hair out of the brush and drop it on the floor - both of which are fucking horrible.

But I suppose I saw this differently as I'm not leaving bits of myself on the floor! I do know what you mean about it being a bit of an 'intimate' thing though.

Eyeliner - lots of practice - I'm a pro now :-) and I would never spray perfume or anything else in a crowded space!!

Will try not to be such a dreadful commoner in future and maybe hide behind my newspaper whilst I do it.
