I looked at the Dad.

I looked at his little chubby toddler daughter in her pink Ramones t shirt.

I thought "God you are a twat"

"why are people who like a certain band but are not old enough to have seen them live looked down upon? "

Always wondered that! If I'm only allowed to like bands I'm old enough to have seen live, then my choices are mainly abysmal!!

jennieflower · 16/09/2011 11:29

Yabu! My ds (3 today) is wearing his "the who" t shirt today, he also has t-shirts of the jam, the Beatles, the rolling stones, and my his favourite is his Amy winehouse one, he pretty much choses which clothes he is going to wear every morning. He also has skinny jeans and sex pistols pyjamas. I'm probably a pretentious arse but that's what I like so that's what I buy.

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 16/09/2011 11:29

Nor are CDs or iTunes downloads though, SuePurb. Gone are the days of the LP with "Pay no more than £3.99" emblazoned on the cover Grin

I do think that wearing a Ramones t (or getting your child to) if you don't actually know, let alone like, the music is beyond lame. And tarnishes it for proper fans. God I'd hate it if one of my beloved bands became just another logo. I accept that that's rather precious Grin

LOLling gently at the tutu-selling farm shop!

At the one I go to you'd be lucky to get a carrier bag to take your food home in let alone a tutu. I'll ask the chap next time we're in, if they could source some tutus and see what he says. They could hang next to the sacks of onions, just above the grumpy terrier in his basket.

This was a Featherdown Farm shop though, Orm so not actually a real farm or real farm shop Wink

Never say so, Jenaimarr

DS also loves Vampire Weekend and has been asking for a VW t-shirt for the last year. Nowhere sells kid's ones though. I might have to get handy with a potato, some stencils and some fabric paint. Grin

BupcakesandCunting · 16/09/2011 11:42

Oh and LeQ I am with you on the tutu thing, fwiw.

Exactement, LeQueen mon cherie! Wink

Blu · 16/09/2011 11:47

YABU.

And rather vehement, for a T shirt which doesn't even say 'future smack head' or the like.

Except for the pinkness.

I can understand the Lequeen practical approach.
I can understand that some toddlers are really interested in or like pretending to be a dinosaur, a ballet dancer, a footballer or Dora the explorer.
But I really can't understand toddlers being that interested in the Ramones.
So it does seem more about the parents than the child, unless it is an older child. It isn't a big deal particularly, but I don't really get it.

Empjusa · 16/09/2011 11:55

"But I really can't understand toddlers being that interested in the Ramones."

What if they've grown up listening to the Ramones?

MillyR · 16/09/2011 11:59

I can't see how the lyrics or the Ramones can appeal to that much to the imagination of the young child, which isn't to say that it doesn't; it is just not something I've any experience of.

Empjusa · 16/09/2011 12:00

I don't imagine too many toddlers are analysing the lyrics Grin The music is upbeat and fun though, which could appeal.

Plus, if it's what they hear at home a lot it's not too surprising.

MillyR · 16/09/2011 12:03

Well yes exactly. They're probably not interested in the lyrics, because toddlers generally like the lyrics to things like the Wheels on the Bus, because that is the kind of thing that appeals to their imagination.

Adult music is generally just something they jump about to, not something they have a big interest in.

I've just seen a man (looked about 50) on the news wearing a 'cow tipping is cool' tshirt. That has me asking why far more than anything on this thread.

MillyR · 16/09/2011 12:09

I imagine the Peppa Pig tshirt doesn't go with the skinny jeans and converse look.

Empjusa · 16/09/2011 12:10

LeQueen Who knows. Possibly. I know I couldn't care less. Though my preference would be for the more aesthetically pleasing (to me) item.

CornishMade · 16/09/2011 12:11

My ds had a Ramones t-shirt when 1; it was a hand me down, along with most of his clothes, and I didn't give it a moment's thought. I'm not into the Ramones but it was just a t-shirt to me. I didn't expect anyone to think I was cool for putting him in it - or to think I was a twat either...
