To wonder what the govt has planned to punish those NOT on benefits?

News link

This is not the first time cutting benefits has been suggested as a punishment. How are the government proposing to punish parents who don't tackle truancy efficiently that aren't on benefits exactly? Just like the assertion that the rioters should lose benefits, yes because they were ALL on benefits weren't they? Hmm

Once again the government fuels the totally untrue daily mail esque belief that all of society's ills lie at the feet of benefits claimants. Apparently they are the root of all evil, eh? Hmm

Not one of the policies publicised has said what would happen to those who do not claim benefits.

Money designed for basic sustenance should not be removed imo. At the end of the day it is the children that will suffer from these measures.

Right, and we should have got rid of those we had when they got diagnosed, I suppose?

BelleDameSansMerci · 09/09/2011 18:07

Because those in receipt of benefits are being threatened with different/harsher punitive measures than those who aren't. Really, not hard to see that this is simply wrong.

FWIW, LOTM, please don't assume that an NHS birth will cost more than we have ever paid in. Some of us who are higher earners also possess empathy and compassion.

Glitterknickaz · 09/09/2011 18:07

Doesn't tie in with the Conservative policy of little government though does it, meditrina?

It's even more nanny state than some of the labour stuff!

That's not what Cameron said.

LineRunner · 09/09/2011 18:09

Sorry that was to meditrina - that's not what Cameron said. X-posted with OP.

Peachy · 09/09/2011 18:09

LOTM For me?

Not being able to cover household heating and basic fuel bills without seriosuly cutting back on food expenditure would be about it, and lots of people are there, on benefits or not.

I know you want people to be in absolute penury to be classed as poor, I heartily disagree with every post you ever amde or will make on the subject of beneifts or poverty. We may share a contry but in no way an ideology. Something I am proud of.

RE EMPHASISES OUR WORKING, TAX PAYER STATUS AND THAT WE HAVFE NO COUNCIL HOUSE DESPITE BEING OFFICIALLY OVER CROWDED; NO JSA OR IS; WE DO HOWEVER GET £3.23 IN COUNCIL TAX BENEFIT.

You know, before someone ops up to dismiss me becuase my family don't work or somesuch.

LadyOfTheManor · 09/09/2011 18:13

Belle...it isn't just one NHS birth (which I don't indulge in).

It's visits to the GP, prescriptions (free for adults in Wales and children throughout the UK) education system etc.

Glitterknickaz · 09/09/2011 18:13

Just goes to show that round here if you are on benefits there are some posters that think you have no right to an opinion, that you are somehow lesser.

If a child plays truant does the parent get fined whether they are or not on benefits?? I thought it was across the board. The difference being the parent who works pays the fine whilst the parent on benefits looks to the taxpayer to pay the fine.

I'll find link - the one in OP didn't specify which benefits, and I read a more detailed version elsewhere earlier today: only CB (replacing fines), fines to remain for non-CB families.

It's nowhere near as drastic as the plans for benefits cut that Labour were forced to abandon in 2002.

Glitterknickaz · 09/09/2011 18:16

Gratitude?
I can't even begin to respond to that.

Of course I'm 'grateful' that my children are disabled. Of course. I like it like that.

Glitterknickaz · 09/09/2011 18:17

Where's the victim here?
Someone stating that they wish that the government would allow personal autonomy or someone bitching about the use of their tax £?

crazynanna · 09/09/2011 18:17

These 'fines' for non CB claimants...are they fines given out in a criminal court, where it comes with a criminal conviction,or are the fines imposed by the LEA?

BelleDameSansMerci · 09/09/2011 18:19

LOTM, my point is that your assumptions are patronising. Perhaps I should have made it more clearly.

Tota1Xaos · 09/09/2011 18:19

Income tax is not the only tax, we all pay tax through VAT anyway

Glitterknickaz · 09/09/2011 18:20

Instead of gratitude I could always hand my children to the LA to look after I suppose. £3k a week as opposed to the basic cost of survival.... hmmmmm

On that assertion breadandbutterfly I am being punished for having an autistic child next eyar becuase the tax credits disability segment is going down by £50 a week for mr dla claimants.

Sorry to hijack but Peachy do you have a link for this?

Moominsarescary · 09/09/2011 18:22

"freely to do with as they please" oh yes like buy food and pay bills

LadyOfTheManor · 09/09/2011 18:22

Glitter-don't be absurd. Of course you're not grateful for having disabled children, but anyone in receipt of benefits should be grateful that provisions have been made.

LadyOfTheManor · 09/09/2011 18:23

Moomin-yes and perhaps buy tobacco or alcohol or food that is expensive and unnecessary....or buying DVDs instead of saving for school shoes then blaming the Govt that there isn't enough money to go around...it isn't down to being on benefits it's down to poor budgeting and if you have little money then some people could do with learning how to control it.

Glitterknickaz · 09/09/2011 18:24

Why?

Why should we be grateful for living in a civilised society?

OP posts:
Glitterknickaz · 09/09/2011 18:26

Shame it's gone off track.
By the way Peachy's disappeared and I'm off too now, if you can't stick to the topic in hand and turn it personal then quite frankly I can't be arsed.
