AIBU to feel sorry for the people who spend half their lives on mumsnet?

I lurk a bit at work ( prenteding to be busy, saves me making the tea ) and have started the odd thread here and there seeking advice, BuT my god I feel sorry for the posters who are on here day in day out for hours.
I know some people are socially isolated and I'm sure they get a lot from mumsnet, but it is rather sad when it becomes your main source of adult interaction, and by choice for many I imagin. I know mumsnet has one million members, but it's always the same names coming up in active conversations. These forums should be a place where you drop into now and then, not somewhere you rely on for friendship.

AIBU ?

It might be me but I get the feeling the OP really doesn't give a shit, no point trying to justify because he or she has now fucked off

destinationzero · 09/09/2011 12:39

What would you do if the internet broke for a month?

Oh it's back

BelleDameSansMerci · 09/09/2011 12:40

Actually, my personal life is spectacularly shit at the moment and MN gives me a break from it...

TheMagnificentBathykolpian · 09/09/2011 12:40

I'd be royally screwed, because my business is internet based and I'd lose a lot of money.

Tianc · 09/09/2011 12:41

I use it because I'm housebound from illness.

But you can feel sorry for me if you like. If you have so little in your own life you have nothing better to do, that is...

GloriaVanderbilt · 09/09/2011 12:41

Do you really think we would all sit gazing at the screen waiting for it to reappear?

FFS you really are way up your own arse

Hullygully · 09/09/2011 12:42

It is my home. Would you bulldoze it and see me on the streets?

would you?

You heartless beast.

fanjobanjowanjo · 09/09/2011 12:43

I think the entire business world would go up the shitter without the internet as most business relies heavily on it now.

stripeywoollenhat · 09/09/2011 12:44

i dunno about everybody else, destinationzero, but i'd sit on my couch in mourning, possibly with a little drool drying on my chin... ffs. some people don't like bargainhunt, and are trying to avoid their work.

Hullygully · 09/09/2011 12:45

Oh won't someone think of the desperate?

AuntieMonica · 09/09/2011 12:45

the internet can break?

LadyBeagleEyes · 09/09/2011 12:46

Yes Gloria, I agree.
Whether OP is here or not, why should anyone have to justify how often they're on Mumsnet.
None of her business, but as I said above, you would to have to be on here a lot to recognise regular posters. Hmm
And I dunno Destination, what would you do if the internet broke for a month?
After all, you seem to be on it now.

shakey1500 · 09/09/2011 12:46

And besides which..how do you KNOW this? Do you sit for your allotted hour (too much?) with pen and paper to hand, jotting down the "regular" names, what topic they posted on, what times they posted (to reach your concclusion that they are here ALL day)?

How fecking sad is that? Stick your own existence under a microscope before you make ridiculous judgement towards others.

Can I do a gavel?? go on.....?

GAVEL!

MotherPanda · 09/09/2011 12:47

whilst breastfeeding a newborn - its better to spend my time on mumsnet - chatting and for advice than to stare at the wall for 45 mins, several times a day.

YABU

i do also go out and see the real world too though.

SuePurblybilt · 09/09/2011 12:47

Oh look, another Bash The Prolifics thread. Did all that secret PM-ing yesterday put fire in a few bellies? So pleased for y'all.

I'm not going to say why I'm here cos I don't have to justify it to you or anyone else. I am going to ask on what planet you think it is acceptable to go up to a group of people, a happy group of people who are obviously having fun, and tell them that they are sad and that you pity them? Do you do this in RL?

And seriously " these forums should"? Did you invent some rules and forget to send the memo?

Ok, I should have said what would you do if Mumsnet shut for a month, because I've seen people go into wild panic when Mumsnet goes off-line for 5 minutes.

But I've been told I'm unreasonable so I will accept it.

theginganinja · 09/09/2011 12:47

Oh I get it.... you're Sam Cam, aren't you. You and Dave really haven't cottoned onto this internet business, have you? It's an integral part of modern life.

PippiLongBottom · 09/09/2011 12:48

I'm actually reading a book. It's Melmoth The Wanderer if you are interested. I have 34 set texts of this ilk to read for my FT English Lit degree before Christmas. I also have three kids (in childcare during the day) an evening job, a maths GCSE to study for and a husband, home to run, two cats, two chickens and a dog.

If its alright with you I'll contine to mumsnet throughout the day in between each chapter.

FFS.

I would cry if the internet broke. I was advised by my FiL not to use his too much in case I used it all up. I understood that, but didn't realise it would break too.
I use MN a lot, I have recently moved to the area I am living in and don't know a single person. There. I am a lonesome Kreecher. DD is at school all day, I can't find a job and apart from my two cats, it's just me.
