AIBU to feel sorry for the people who spend half their lives on mumsnet?

I lurk a bit at work ( prenteding to be busy, saves me making the tea ) and have started the odd thread here and there seeking advice, BuT my god I feel sorry for the posters who are on here day in day out for hours.
I know some people are socially isolated and I'm sure they get a lot from mumsnet, but it is rather sad when it becomes your main source of adult interaction, and by choice for many I imagin. I know mumsnet has one million members, but it's always the same names coming up in active conversations. These forums should be a place where you drop into now and then, not somewhere you rely on for friendship.

AIBU ?

I spend a lot of time lurking on here, dipping my toe in at times as I'm shy.

Imagine OP how shy that makes me in real life if I hesitate on here. I work FT, have a DH who works nights so am on my own there but can't go out as DD is in bed, and am recovering from severe PND and PTSD. So yes I spend a fair bit of time on here and tbh I like seeing the "regulars" as it does almost feel like friends.

But you just carry on judging people who you have no idea of who they are or how shitty their lives may be

GilbonzoTheSecretPsychoCunt · 09/09/2011 13:34

For FUCK sake you spiteful shits. People MN for all sorts of reasons. People get to know other people on here and running jokes start. Pull your heads out of your stinking arses and press the little 'x' icon on the MN tab. Go on.

NeverKnowinglyUnderDoug · 09/09/2011 13:35

auntie Hamsterz is just feeling a little sad at the moment as not only are they struggling with the concept of irony but they don't get the joke either.

ripstheirthroatoutliveupstairs · 09/09/2011 13:35

How horribly smug the OP and Hamsterzbollox (great alternative spellings BTW) sound.
I don't have to justify myself to anybody, but, I have seen several posters doing that.
Don't fucking pander to them other posters.

Why repeatedly come on to an internet social forum to continually tell people you have a life and friends? Why?

GilbonzoTheSecretPsychoCunt · 09/09/2011 13:37

Thanks guys. I might go for a fag now.

MustControlFistOfDeath · 09/09/2011 13:37

Ooh hidden meanings:

I lurk a bit at work = I would like to be on MN all day but can't in case my boss finds out

These forums should be a place where you drop into now and then, not somewhere you rely on for friendship. = I am jealous of those who are able to MN all day

I'd rather be popular in RL ( which I am ) = I have no friends

You could be sitting there in filthy clothes, swigging beer and picking your nose for all I know = which is what I do every night when I get home

No need for you to feel sorry for anyone else OP

SuePurblybilt · 09/09/2011 13:38

Honestly, the sooner the spiteful begrudgers decide that they're off to play with their fabulous, witty, experts on everything RL friends, the better as far as I'm concerned. I'm about sick of all this hating.

That's what it is btw, hating people you don't know because they appear to be having a good time. Who's the one to be pitied, exactly?

Rubyx · 09/09/2011 13:38

I am home after twenty years of working and I sit on the computer and go on mumsnet for fifteen mins at a time to just see what's going on and it gives me a break from the housework and courses i am doing when i am not going out.
No harm in that!

iMemoo · 09/09/2011 13:38

I don't get it.

To know people are on here loads you must be on here loads too otherwise how would you know??

AuntieMonica · 09/09/2011 13:39

Lotkinsgonecurly · 09/09/2011 13:39

OP I'm paid to look at the mumsnet all day every day. The kids think when I'm on here I'm working Grin. really must do some work though....

GrownUpNow · 09/09/2011 13:40

Why is reading a book acceptable but surfing the internet not?

sjuperwolef · 09/09/2011 13:40

i refuse to tell you why i MN. it would breach several classified government departments and a few us and russian border agencies too.

my apologies, but if you wish to feel sad for anyone - make it yourself.

NarkyPuffinLovesDiane · 09/09/2011 13:40

'These forums should be a place where you drop into now and then, not somewhere you rely on for friendship'

Really? Wow! Thanks for letting me know. I was harbouring the illusion that we had free will, and could each choose to use MN as we see fit. Did I miss an e-mail?

It's really kind of you to take time out of your busy, popular life, with your bookreading and all, to tell us how we should be using the site.

akaemmafrost · 09/09/2011 13:43

I am mnetting while exercising on my Cross Trainer. Now THAT'S commitment!

LDNmummy · 09/09/2011 13:43

"I'm only come on here to try and catch one of your witty, incisive contributions, OP.

WEEKS I've been waiting."

Ha ha!

I'm on here almost every day, but I have no shame in admitting it. I joined around January when I got pregnant and since then MN has been great for me.

I have a load of good friends in RL but me being pregnant means I don't always feel in the mood to hit a bar or club (although I have done throughout my pregnancy every once in a while) or even commute to see them sometimes. In fact I am arranging a get together to see all of them next week before my LO comes along as people have been pestering me about my 'hiding behind my pregnancy' Grin

Plus, I am a student so I spend a lot of time on my laptop writing essays, which makes MN one of those ultimate online distractions in my day.

I always assumed other MN's who are regulars had a similar situation going on, not that they were all sad loners.

Oh, no, I'd much rather be popular with strangers. My life is so much better inside my own head.

LDNmummy · 09/09/2011 13:47

As for reading a book, I'm an Eng Lit student. Go figure Grin

FoundWanting · 09/09/2011 13:47

I'm envious of the prolific posters.

By the time I've read a thread, thought of something to say and checked my grammar and spelling, it's all moved on so I don't bother posting.

But I am here...all the bloody time.
