Names like Gemma82 or yummymummy1.

There's so much choice. Obviously I'm a sucker for a bad pun. But I love the variety of names on here - great song lyrics, obscure references that I feel compelled to go off and google (and never google again in the case of dragon butter), bizarre word combinations and so on.

There are some notable exceptions but normally I make an assumption that if a poster can't think of an interesting name then they won't have anything interesting to say.

I think most people ignore the 'D' and just see it as an abbreviation for son/daughter/husband/etc. I always imagined the 'D' to be tongue-in-cheek anyway.

SayCoolNowSayWhip · 31/08/2011 10:32

I saw on one thread that you could change it to BH (bastard husband) which made me chuckle. I have to admit that I do use them but only because I kind of thought it was what one did on MN.....

Inertia · 31/08/2011 10:32

On the plus side, all this talk of names has made me realise that herbietea is herbie tea. In my head it was pronounced her-bee-ett-ee-a.

(Honestly, I can read).

MissPenteuth · 31/08/2011 10:34

How silly of you In-ert-ee-ah Wink

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 31/08/2011 10:36

YABU.

I'm fine with dd, ds, dh too.

One of the things I liked about MN was that, thanks to namechanging and there not being those "novice", "intermediate", "expert" type tags alongside everyone's name on each of their posts, it wasn't immediately apparent who was new and who was top dog. Likewise you don't have the "Started by" bit under each thread title so everyone has an equal chance of their thread being opened.

FrameyMcFrame · 31/08/2011 10:37

Grovel... I read your post and i likeee your name Smile

Getting sniffy about names just isn't in that same spirit imo.

traceybeaker · 31/08/2011 10:41

I do not really look at peoples names just the title the only two I remember of the top of my head is xenia because she has a very strange opinion about some things like ''its her way or the highway''
.

and fabbychic cause she makes me laugh.

I could not name one other person on here.

Inertia · 31/08/2011 10:48

MissPenteuth - I know. I'd blush, but I can't even do that on the phone due to inadequate brackettage.

I have been tested and found wanting on this thread (looks shamed via the medium of unsuitable brackets)

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 31/08/2011 10:50

Not "hunnish" at all, youngwoman.

I think we're too hung up on hunnery though, really I do.

Secrecy · 31/08/2011 10:50

ChaosTrulyReigns · 31/08/2011 11:01

164 posts and no-one has mentioned the importance of capitalism.

disloyalists

OTheHugeRaveningWolef · 31/08/2011 11:02

I've nothing much to say to the oldbies/newbies thing, but I've sometimes wondered about the name porcamiseria - wouldn't that translate as Pork of Misery?

Is that kind of like the opposite of Nice Ham?

SayCoolNowSayWhip · 31/08/2011 11:02

Chaos I wanted to but thought I might get flamed for being too pedantic.

SayCoolNowSayWhip · 31/08/2011 11:03

OTH, I did actually laugh out loud at that. (Still refuse to write LOL though....)

RustyBear · 31/08/2011 11:04

I am a capitalist convert Chaos - I started out as rustybear, but when I reverted after the whole Attila thing, I became RustyBear - my iPad now puts in the capitals automatically, so it's no extra bother...

MardyBra · 31/08/2011 11:17

Ha ha Chaos. I thought you wanted a political debate on the merits of the free market.
