Names like Gemma82 or yummymummy1.

There's so much choice. Obviously I'm a sucker for a bad pun. But I love the variety of names on here - great song lyrics, obscure references that I feel compelled to go off and google (and never google again in the case of dragon butter), bizarre word combinations and so on.

There are some notable exceptions but normally I make an assumption that if a poster can't think of an interesting name then they won't have anything interesting to say.

Sorry I couldn't concentrate on the OP - just skimmed over it...

I actually never read the name.. just the post and I laugh if I think it's witty, and then I look at the name, just for future reference, and if it's a bit of a puzzle, I might try and figure it out .

But mostly I don't know if a poster is new or old or an oldtimer namechanger: and I don't care.

Oakmaiden · 31/08/2011 18:18

Maybe I should change my name to Oakbitch....

Dorje · 31/08/2011 18:20

Only for quercing Oakmaiden!

Oakmaiden · 31/08/2011 18:22

quercing?

SayCoolNowSayWhip · 31/08/2011 18:24

For all those that care no? Just me then having Googled it because I am a geek faux pas is the same both singular and plural.

SecretNutellaFix · 31/08/2011 18:35

I think large numbers who join and use a mummy name or a number name and who actually stay here aren't offended and leave for fluffier climes often do change after a few weeks when they have settled into the site well.

So, which category is my name in then?Wink

Dorje · 31/08/2011 18:36

Sub genus Quercus

Dorje · 31/08/2011 18:38

Quercing: Sounds like cursing - sorry, a pun and she that puns would pick the lesser of two weevels etc..

MardyBra · 31/08/2011 18:46

Nutella - I think of you often when I am raiding the storecupboard

OP posts:
Oakmaiden · 31/08/2011 18:54

Ah - I got the quercus bit (it is the nickname my husband uses online) but missed the cursing pun. Bit slow today.... Grin

Although the Oakbitch itsewlf is a bit of a pun, since I have occasionally used the name OakWitch, you see...

RedRubyBlue · 31/08/2011 18:57

I have name changed but it is still a bit 'blah'.

I wanted Pizza&Fairytales but ampersands are not alllowed by the Mumsnet police.

Pizzaandfairytales doesn't look right.

Actually? Why was it rejected? Are ampersands allowed?

Tchootnika · 31/08/2011 18:58

What's not to love about LindyMindy86 and his front tonsure?

MardyBra · 31/08/2011 18:59

PizzaAndFairyTales would work nicely. (And keep Chaos off your back).

What were you before?

I've now read the whole thread and like the way a near possible flaming has turned into a loving thread.

I'm not sure what catagory my name falls into but I don't pay much attention to names when reading a thread unless they say something funny.

I had a very fluffy name when I first joined but never felt ignored, I didn't jump straight into the threads though & I think that helps because I got a feel for posting style and quickly learned that hun and kisses were hated phew

RedRubyBlue · 31/08/2011 20:17

Mardy

I was pissed drinking coffee when I chose my name from the property pages in the local rag.

Could have been 'Semi-detached with Garage' I guess. Grin

KatieScarlett2833 · 31/08/2011 20:23

Or GCHDG4BDet Grin

RedRubyBlue · 31/08/2011 22:15

I could have been reading the lonely hearts.

WLTMGSOH.

Oakmaiden · 31/08/2011 22:35

Ah, you see I thought you had named yourself after the band, Ruby Blue. A bit disappointed now!

ouryve · 31/08/2011 22:36

I'm using the same boring name I use all over the Internet, complete with nocaps. There's even one or two sites where I leave off the "our" bit.

Take it or leave it.

threeolivemartini · 31/08/2011 22:55

Read the thread and have now had to change from my perfectly servicable bland name of 3 years. I only ended up with that because it was the 13th attempt, everything more inventive I could come up with at the time already taken.
So is it any better? I will watch with interest every time I post now to see if I get better responses.
and maybe change again if I don't

pixielicious · 31/08/2011 23:23

Oh god, sorry, I didn't realise only old hands were allowed to post on here.Hmm Of course YABU, new posters (yes, even the ones with bland user names!) may have interesting things to say, or really need some help. My username is a nickname my DP thought up :)

PerryCombover · 31/08/2011 23:25

meh

MrsRhettButler · 01/09/2011 00:20

Threeolivemartini, better than what? Who were you before? Grin

I like it btw

drfayray · 01/09/2011 02:53

But I like my name! And if it is dull so what..it isn't dull to me Wink.

I think it amusing that some often think it is Fay Wray (star of King Kong) - referred to me in posts- but in fact is the name of the most beautiful model (dog) used by the artist William Wegman. His beautiful Weimaraner Fay Ray; his other dog was Man Ray.

I have a Weim and am a doctor (PhD) so use that.

The names may not be dull to the owners you know..

I always look at the titles of the threads not who posted them anyway. Don't most?

SpareRoomSleeper · 01/09/2011 03:12

Ha, I had a fluffier name too, and thread-killed alot.

Now I'm just knackered and have ishoos with sleep hence the name.
