'All right love..'

don't know whether to put this here but it's bugging me. People who use 'love' to refer to women when they disagree with them. 'All right love...' kind of thing. Usually men but sometimes women do this as well.

Some of my friends & acquaintances call me 'honey'. It reminds me of MN Grin
Wouldn't like DH doing it though!

exoticfruits · 23/08/2011 19:23

I like it.In Cornwall they would call you 'my lover'-you get used to it. I quite like duck or hen or pet.

cornsilx · 23/08/2011 19:27

sounds a bit fruity in Cornwall!

alphabettyspagghetti · 23/08/2011 19:35

love
pet
ducky
pal
mate
dude

all better than most of the names I've been called.

caesar04 · 23/08/2011 19:37

I say it to everyone Blush

Disclaimer - am northern.

Have been known to do it inappropriately without even thinking (work in a school...have said it MORE than once on the phone to a parent Blush Shock Its always at the end of phone call eg.. thanks for your time Mrs so and so...then bye love on the end!!! Oh dear)

DH family from Salford and they say cock or cocker. I love that!

alphabettyspagghetti · 23/08/2011 19:42

I love cocker...It's not something I hear often enough.

Asmodeus · 23/08/2011 20:11

I usually just say "Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight"

cantpooinpeace · 23/08/2011 20:23

Iam a 'love' user too :) also a northerner :)

alphabettyspagghetti · 23/08/2011 20:49

A "love" user!

That can be taken sooo many ways.

MynameisnotEarl · 23/08/2011 20:56

No-one has ever used 'love' or 'dear' to me affectionately.

So I really love it when anyone uses those names, even complete strangers.

My favourite was when someone called me 'flower'. That made me smile for weeks Smile.

upahill · 23/08/2011 22:20

Mynameisnotearl Come to the North West. You will be called love from the minute you get off the train or park your car!! (fact!)

everyone calls you ''love'' (in a nice way)

Pan · 23/08/2011 22:30

cornsilk - a BIG congrats. A thread in AIBU and it hasn't caused a row!

'Petal' I like too.

If I am really pissed off, then " Would you like to reconsider, angel" is about as unpleasant and passive/aggressive as I get.

Pan · 23/08/2011 22:31

upahill - or 'sweetie' if I am the first person they meet!

devonshiredumpling · 23/08/2011 22:34

i call people sweetie or darling all the time just a turn of phrase

TheFrogs · 23/08/2011 22:56

I only ever call someone "love" or "sweetie" when i'm being an arse Blush

Pan · 23/08/2011 22:58

Frogs - well learn some taste and discipline then!

Honeydragon · 23/08/2011 23:10

My Dad says Flower at lot...I like Grin

My Granda was a big hairy sailor and used to call other big hairy sailors flower too.... and people wonder where the rumours about sailors come from Hmm Grin

Honeydragon · 23/08/2011 23:11

TheFrogs what do you use as a term of affection then?

MittzyTheVixen · 23/08/2011 23:13

Mrs Bradley... what is a 'feathery stroker'? Smile

AnyFucker · 23/08/2011 23:48

a feathery stroker is that most rubbish of lovers

you know the kind ?

the light touch, when you want firm ?

he thinks he's teasing WHEN REALLY IT'S JUST FUCKING IRRITATING

when you want to be taken, but he is too gentle and keeps touching lightly until your teeth are so set on edge you want to scream ?

that is a "feathery stroker"

do I sound like I speak from bitter experience ?

yep

AnyFucker · 23/08/2011 23:51

there is no accounting for taste though

I believe some people like the feathery stroking
