The God Delusion

In thinking that Richard Dawkin's The God Delusion should be compulsory reading for all secondary school children?

Not only would it put paid to all the religious nonsense some parents spout, it would also put an end to a lot of wars and violence in the world.

You know what, after reading about the last 10 posts of so i feel like i have entered some imaginary kind of world, i dont know what i mean anymore, let alone what you mean!! Its late, im tired, im off to bed Smile

Cocoflower · 26/08/2011 02:22

Blimey- 2am!

Grr, I told myself I wouldnt do this. No more MN for me!

Cocoflower · 26/08/2011 02:24

Though I do quite the head-messing aspect of religion and philosophy- all the "what if'"s- great for the imagination and the mind!

AtheGoddessOfAtheism · 26/08/2011 02:27

God has done a back up and can reload it again on arrival in heaven where you would get a new hard drive with unlimited capacity.

Okay, as a computer scientist I am accusing god of operating a wasteful and expensive IT policy. Current estimates of the human brain capacity do not exceed 2.5 petabytes. Now, to be fair that is a hell of a lot of bytes, but nowhere near infinity. And presumably the heavenly taxpayer is footing the bill for all of that!

Any good software developer will generally have a rough idea of the data and systems requirements of the application s/he is writing. Therefore I am concluding that, providing the correctness of your suggestion

a) god is a lousy programmer
b) heaven is hell for taxpayers

or

c) someone else wrote the code. God didn't RTFM.
d) heaven is hell for taxpayers.

:o

(No offense intended. Sorry, I just love me a little nerd humour. As a real life dev I see this as an invitation)

Cocoflower · 26/08/2011 02:31

In fairness some people I know wouldn't exceed much more than a gigabyte.

Computer says: "No", is all that would happen.

AtheGoddessOfAtheism · 26/08/2011 03:12

In fairness some people I know wouldn't exceed much more than a gigabyte.

And there I always thought us infidels were supposed to be the mean people who say nasty things about others. Confused

That having been said: My DH has a mate who would easily fit onto your standard issue floppy disc. I struggle not to bang my head on the table in despair each time that guy opens his mouth.

He says he's an atheist, by the way. Although I'm not entirely certain he knows what that is. Actually I think he's a theist who doesn't like god. Now, I would agree that that is a seriously brave stance IMHO - except I reckon bravery actually requires some kind of awareness of the potential danger?!

Cocoflower · 26/08/2011 03:16

Nasty? I was joking! Tounge-in-cheek, being cheeky, having a laugh- failing misreably at wit. Its my Northern sense of humour I guess.

I see why people keep telling me Im too deadpan now.

But I think from the rest of your post you do get I was kidding...?!

AtheGoddessOfAtheism · 26/08/2011 03:21

:o

Cocoflower · 26/08/2011 03:23

And God has a great sense of humour- you only need to look at man naked to know that...! Grin

(Just kidding)

AtheGoddessOfAtheism · 26/08/2011 03:23

Can we conclude that other people not getting your sense of humour is a common issue for both atheists an believers?

I'm a Southerner, by the way, so I don't even have that excuse.

AtheGoddessOfAtheism · 26/08/2011 03:25

x-post

OMG, I'm telling my husband (theist) that! Maybe this will be my winning argument in the theism vs atheism debate.

I'm shaming him into adopting my POV!

Cocoflower · 26/08/2011 03:25

Gosh no- I think its all relative to one's intelligance natchrally!

Cocoflower · 26/08/2011 03:26

Nothing like shaming a naked man :)

YummyHoney · 26/08/2011 19:44
