... to think this couple are extracting the urine?

I work mainly part-time, DH works off-shore. Two DC, no family nearby to help out but we manage. Our eldest DC is due to start Primary School and will only be in until noon for several weeks. To accommodate this I have used the majority of my annual leave or ensured that DH is home. Another couple who live locally and whose eldest DC will be starting school at the same time are now dropping heavy hints that we should help them out by collecting and looking after their child (This would be from noon until @5pm/or 3.30pm until @5pm when going in for full-days).

There has been no direct request (yet) but lots of 'it'll all work itself out' and 'we're all in the same boat' type comments Hmm. The DW of the couple has also commented to me that they could 'drop off their DC in the mornings' at another neighbour's house - a neighbour that otherwise they do not associate with or even speak to but who is a friend of mine.

The other couple are both Primary School teachers and have been off for the Summer Holidays (47 days) ...... so .... AIBU to think that the week before school term resumes in NOT the time to start thinking about childcare, far less make assumptions that other people should take up the slack?

Can't believe the cow tried your door handle. What the hell's wrong with knocking?

POL maybe next time you'll answer the door, emboldened by this thread, so you can come back and report the subsequent 'ding-dong'.

Pishwife · 22/08/2011 23:47

Well done. I love the way you described the second, disbelieving shove of the door handle. Take that sound with you. That is the sound of someone preparing to wipe their feet on you, but finding that they can't even access your doormat.

I am reminded of a touching ballad by AC/DC entitled "Big Balls"

Teachermumof3 · 22/08/2011 23:51

Would your front door usually be unlocked all night then?!

What would she have done if it was unlocked this morning-just walked straight in saying 'hellooo'? Scary woman!

Did you find out what excuse she gave to the poor woman that was suckered this morning??!

TheDailyWail · 23/08/2011 00:12

I cannot believe the gall of your neighbours!

I'd fit special sensors on the front of their house so you know when you and the family have to hide in the airing cupboard.

ApolausticAardvark · 23/08/2011 00:12

I love it when a thread has a happy ending!

Well done, OP.

Wabbit · 23/08/2011 00:29

Wow, she's got a nerve! I just feel sorry for their DC, who would do this? I've had lovely mums help me out of childcare pickles in the past, but they actually offered, and I never, ever expected anything from them, nor them from me.

Actually tried to open your front door... to ''Cooeee'' I guess... ''Are you taking X to school this morning? [aghast silence] You wouldn't mind taking DC with you would you?''

No, this woman has no social conscience whatsoever - that poor kid.

PreviouslyonLost · 23/08/2011 01:32

Teachermumof3 NO, we don't leave our door unlocked all night Grin but every crack of dawn, weather permitting, we're in garden with a hot cup of tea sucking up the peace and calm of it all...before the details like babies and bills intrude!

And with that I'm off to Bedfordshire, figuratively speaking of course. So tired...but relieved Smile.

i'm with mrs bonkers - it's only monday (or it was.....)

well done OP - keep it up

Jacksmania · 23/08/2011 04:18

If you've had the unutterably shit Monday to end all unutterably shit Mondays, rum cake has no calories, does it? Because I'd really quite like to eat the whole thing and hopefully get drink off all the rum in the process. Gah!!!

Jacksmania · 23/08/2011 04:19

DRUNK off all the rum
Even my fingers are pissed off, I can't type.

Jacksmania · 23/08/2011 04:22

Awww shit wrong thread!!! Sorry POL. Blush

Wow, can't believe the nerve of the woman!! Shock
Loving the neighbour's walk of shame through the playground with everyone knowing she got suckered into taking the couple's DC in to school.
BTW those are gorgeous shiny new balls :o

hairfullofsnakes · 23/08/2011 05:35

Well Op...

Your balls certainly are very nice! Grin

If you wanna be in my ball category though (and go for gold!) you could call this poor excuse for a human being up on her behaviour and tell her exactly how awful she is?! I know it would be hard and I wouldn't really even expect you to do it... But if you did... Imagine the freedom - and you would be saving the whole area of having to deal with this fucker. I so want her to read this...

Well done POL - very proud of you. Keep it up and even if you can't be direct in what you say, show disdain through your looks and actions - say NO to any further meet ups - cut her out. You don't need her in your life she is a vampire and a disrespectful fucking bitch who needs to learn some big fucking manners. I can't believe some poeople are like that I really can't!

Keep going and more updates

Tell that other neighbour to tell her to do one too.

I am raging that she has roped someone else in!

mumcanIaskaquestion · 23/08/2011 06:45

Well done OP. I look forward to next weekend/monday installment to see if she turns up at your door as both neighbour and childminder won't can't help them out.

oooggs · 23/08/2011 06:56

Grin fab thread & result

Bumperlicious · 23/08/2011 07:23

Well done op. I really just can't believe this family hadnt sorted this out literally until the last minute. She's had months to ask you. How rude to wait until the day when you'd be hard pressed to say no.

CeliaFate · 23/08/2011 07:24

Hooray! What a result. This has GOT to go into Classics. Well done PoL, I'm glad your special day of dc to school wasn't ruined. Grin

ChippyMinton · 23/08/2011 07:36

Have been following thread with bated breath...brilliant result.
I hope Day 2 works out as well.

tulipgrower · 23/08/2011 07:54

Well done OP! Congratulations on the big, new, shiny balls!

Will you be mentioning to the DW, maybe in a passing comment, that you saw them pull away from your house on Monday? Grin

You could maybe enquire as to what they wanted, ask if they perhaps forgot something over the weekend? Grin

stillfrazzled · 23/08/2011 08:16

A victory for balls, justice and the Mumsnet way wipes away patriotic tears, salutes MN flag

What would MN flag look like?

Please keep posting, OP.

yellowsubmarine41 · 23/08/2011 08:25

This has been a really funny read but I'm more and more with warthog who says she feels sorry for their kids.

Can you imagine your first day of school excitement/nerves being marred by your parents shipping you round the street to see who would be mug enough to take you in? The 4 year old would be completely atuned to these dynamics.

Although, to be fair, they're probably fairly used to it if this is how their parents generally behave.

RandomMess · 23/08/2011 08:27

Love your shiney balls Grin

MissBeehiving · 23/08/2011 08:34

Shock well done POL

roisin · 23/08/2011 08:43

Shock Can't believe the cheek of some people.
How did today go?

fedupofnamechanging · 23/08/2011 09:07

Hi POL,

I am very proud of you and your impressive balls. I'm actually quite teary here, that all your efforts have paid off.

I think I went to bed about 5 minutes before you posted last night and am very mad at myself for missing your post. DD overslept this morning and the first thing I have done (even before getting coffee) is get on here and check how got on yesterday.

Please keep the doors locked as your neighbour who got landed with the kids yesterday may well have developed a set of balls of her own and says no after this week is up. In which case they'll be back to you. Also be prepared for an afternoon invasion, if they know either your or your dh are home.

If they've managed to alienate their childminder, by messing her about, they'll be up shit creek and will try you again.

I really hope they leave you alone now, now they know you are not a pushover.

Well done POL x

ExitPursuedByATroll · 23/08/2011 09:30

Well done POL. How do these people sleep at night? I am a control freak and need to know that everything is sorted and organised with respect to my DD, and my animals. These last minute merchants must be so hard nosed/faced.
