To be furious with school over this?

pink4ever · 15/08/2011 15:18

My dc is starting school on wednesday. A few weeks before the end of the summer holidays the school gave out the uniform order forms. They had to be completed and returned with payment by a certain date. However due to many parents failing to do so by said date we did not receive our orders in time. We were assured we would get them before school returns.

I go to school this afternoon to collect mine and hear a mum in front of me querying that there is no blazer in her pack. I decide to check mine, Hey ho-no blazer. When I ask about this I get told it is nothing to do with office staff and I have to speak to head of pta. I am also told that I should have had a phone call informing me of incomplete order. I hadnt(order has been paid for in full btw)

I phone the women supposedly in charge who doesnt seem to know anything about incomplete orderHmm. She tells me she is trying to get to the company who supplies uniform this afternoon and that I hopefully will be able to pick up order tomorrow.

I am beyond furious. At the parents who handed orders in late,at the pta who dont seem to have a clue what they are doing but mainly at the school for their shrugged shoulders attitude.

I want my dc to have the proper uniform for the first day-it is an important moment. Also as I said I have already paid for it so as far as Im concerned thats theft-they have not supplied what I paid for.

So am I BU?

Zukiecat JD Sports. I believe it to be a purveyor of sports and casual wear.

EuphemiaMcGonagall · 15/08/2011 17:45

How MN that we both called them "purveyors"!!! I need to spend less time on here ...

musicposy · 15/08/2011 17:46

pink I know you are a regular and I'm glad MN has helped you with DH. Maybe another home truth would be that when people are volunteering their valuable time for what is usually a thankless task (have spent years on PTAs), you need to be a bit patient and forgiving when things don't go to plan.

But like I said, you do need to get perspective and I think you know that. It's very annoying, I'll agree. It's also a stressful time when DC start school and it's all so new - and you could do without this sort of thing. But you really do have to keep calm, because there will be much, much worse than this to get het up over in years to come and you will be a complete nervous wreck within a very short time otherwise.

Grin @ JD Sports being called 'purveyor'

silk purse/sows ear?

EuphemiaMcGonagall · 15/08/2011 17:49

Slight hint of sarcasm Wink

I am not suprised at the ops attitude she has caught it from her dh. The only sane solicitors I have ever met have been on mn, all the real life ones are bonkers and completely overract at simple errors demanding and threatening all sorts.

Zukie, it's the place you go when your son claims that it is now 'actually compulsory' to wear Lacoste trainers for PE.

KatieScarlett2833 · 15/08/2011 18:05

A typical school shopping trip, chez Scarlett

"So darling DD/DS, we have been to Warehouse, Oasis, Zara, Debenhams,Next, Top Shop, etc. 4 hours have passed and you still have not chosen anything"

"We haven't been to JD yet, Mum"

"But JD won't have anything suitable for school, my love"

"JD, Mum"

"But JD is overpriced, full of addidas, mackenzie, bench stuff that is only for PE, surely, darling? How about that lovely smart jacket we saw in Next?"

"JD, Mum"

"But sweetie, you are going to school, not off to rob the Post Office"

What do you do sports in, though?

seb1 · 15/08/2011 18:14

Zukie, on another thread we were also discussing "I love PB" thing, that is even madder.

VivaLeBeaver · 15/08/2011 18:18

I do love a good Aibu thread. Haven't had one where the OP has come across so badly in a long time.

I believe that theft definition is that a person is guilty of theft when they dishonestly misappropriate another persons property with the intention of permanently depriving them of that property.

So no it blatantly isn't theft. Maybe the OPs DH can explain this to her in words of one syllable if she still struggles to understand.

Ha ha, MIL as a treat took DS(14) shopping for holiday clothes (we are going on the cruise from hell with them in October) to get him something nice not from JD, why do you let my darling grandchildren dress like chavs to wear on the boat.

This was at 1pm, they travelled to another town to do this.

DS has just returned (5:15pm) with

3 pairs of addidas long shorts
1 pair of addidas "jobbies"(fabric tracksuit bottoms)
1 pair of addidas trainers (different colours from the 2 identical new pairs he already has)
2 Gio Gio??????? t shirts

all from, no prizes for guessing, ......JD. MIL looked downtrodden and weary and was in a great hurry to leave.

AIBU to snigger?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/08/2011 18:28

Ok, for Scotland (big place so generalising somewhat) and towards the end of the week accuracy of course drops off.

Wednesday - temps mid to high teens. Stiff breeze though so feeling quite cool. mdels are mixed as to whether it will be damp, so i'd take a cagoule to pull over the top of whatever uniform is worn.

Thurday - quite wet, esp for northern part (southern part my be quite dry). Wind will be much lighter, so you can get away with an umbrella and a card/blazer/smart/casual jacket thingy. temps colder though so you will need something over a shirt/polo top.

Friday - drier, a little warmer than thursday and again light winds. So just a cardi/blazer/smart/casual jacket thingy should be ok.

KatieScarlett2833 · 15/08/2011 18:30

Kitten School goes back tomorrow here.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/08/2011 18:35

ok, hang on...
tomorrow looks like most parts will see rain at some point. temps low to mid teens. I'd say its a raincoat over a cardi/blazer/smart/casual jacket thingy unless your children are hardy, in which case, due to the lack of wind then an umbrella would be appropriate with cardi/blazer/smart/casual jacket thingy.

KatieScarlett2833 · 15/08/2011 18:39

Thank you kitten, better look out the stupidly expensive waterproof jacket for tomorrow.

michglas · 15/08/2011 18:44

The funniest thread I have read in ages - your DH is a solicitor and you can't afford to pay a casual jacket for her to go back to school in. Ha ha i'd have loved for you to have been me last year when DD2 had left her pinafore dress on her chair while she went for PE as they always do. The teacher was getting the class ready for textiles and accidentally cut DD2's dress up. The headteacher rang me to apologise and I was too busy howling with laughter to be angry. The school paid for the dress to be replaced, but this probably wouldn't have been good enough for you OP - you wouldn't have wanted the teacher's head on a gold-plated platter.

Honestly, you need to learn to let the small things go or your going to fall out with everyone involved with the school pretty quick - or have a heart attack

meditrina · 15/08/2011 18:47

Thanks kitten !

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/08/2011 18:50

Grin you are very welcome.
