To be furious with school over this?

My dc is starting school on wednesday. A few weeks before the end of the summer holidays the school gave out the uniform order forms. They had to be completed and returned with payment by a certain date. However due to many parents failing to do so by said date we did not receive our orders in time. We were assured we would get them before school returns.

I go to school this afternoon to collect mine and hear a mum in front of me querying that there is no blazer in her pack. I decide to check mine, Hey ho-no blazer. When I ask about this I get told it is nothing to do with office staff and I have to speak to head of pta. I am also told that I should have had a phone call informing me of incomplete order. I hadnt(order has been paid for in full btw)

I phone the women supposedly in charge who doesnt seem to know anything about incomplete orderHmm. She tells me she is trying to get to the company who supplies uniform this afternoon and that I hopefully will be able to pick up order tomorrow.

I am beyond furious. At the parents who handed orders in late,at the pta who dont seem to have a clue what they are doing but mainly at the school for their shrugged shoulders attitude.

I want my dc to have the proper uniform for the first day-it is an important moment. Also as I said I have already paid for it so as far as Im concerned thats theft-they have not supplied what I paid for.

So am I BU?

Not sure what you;r e on about, seb. The minimum night temperature in Aberdeen is 9 degrees.

No school at night.

kungfu, my non-legal mind suggests sawing a normal curtain pole in two. Or there's the High Court I suppose.

NorksAreMessy · 15/08/2011 16:24

Oooh, don't let this stop now, just as I was enjoying myself. I don't want to eat all the popcorn myself Grin

Honestly, if you have a problem with dyslexia, but post unpleasant and patronising comments like "do you have a problem reading dear?" it just highlights your complete inability to comprehend anyone else's position or view of the world.

Have you considered adding some more diagnoses to your dyslexia? I'm sure your total lack of empathy and tendency to have a meltdown over issues which appear trivial to others would be worth looking up in terms of ASD.

Whether she can just wear a cardi or needs a coat really isn't important is it? She has both.

It's a wonder she has both parents though - they must both be on the verge of either a nervous breakdown or a heart attack.

Some of you are bonkers!

perfumedlife · 15/08/2011 16:25

Well in my part of Glasgow today we have had howling gales and torrential rain and it's cold. Don't know what the official temp is but it feels wintry.

Even so, a coat is more useful for school than a blazer. Blazers don't have hoods and are not waterproof. Still, apperances seem to really matter to some folk Grin

geraldinetheluckygoat · 15/08/2011 16:26

Insane thread. I can clearly see the solution to this hideous situation:

OP - put her in one of her several CASUAL JACKETS.

ChippingIn · 15/08/2011 16:26

hocuspontas - shame isn't it. A few always have to spoil it.

EuphemiaMcGonagall · 15/08/2011 16:27

SoupDragon Yes!

I've never seen the point of blazers: what happens when it rains? Which it does a lot in Scotland?

In my experience, blazers are ditched after the first week and replaced by anoraks. Waste of money.

YABU: the School Council has done its best, there's been a glitch, you're frustrated but no-one dies.

AMumInScotland · 15/08/2011 16:27

A coat or cagoule would suit this August much better than a jumper. I've been living in my raincoat most of the year - I took out the fleecy lining in June.....

cocoachannel · 15/08/2011 16:27

Hee hee- how many AIBU cliches can one OP hit!?

OP: AIBU?
MN: Yes.
OP: No I'm not.

Criticise my spelling?? I'm dyslexic don't you know.

DH is a GENIUS who'll proove you all wrong.

Still disagree? Off I flounce.

pointydog · 15/08/2011 16:27

everyone in scotland should have a cagoule anyway

Now I'm going to be laughing and humming "Dixieland" all day

In Boden-Land I'll take my stand
to live and die in Boden

pointydog · 15/08/2011 16:28

kag in a bag, mac in a sack, something like that

chill1243 · 15/08/2011 16:28

it seems inefficient to me.

Sassybeast · 15/08/2011 16:29

oooohhh - I love a good hissy fit. You and your DH sound like a lovely, calm, serene couple who sprinkle fluffy dust wherever you go Grin

MoominsAreScary · 15/08/2011 16:29

You think a late arriving blazer is a problem? Just wait ! I've lost count of the pe kits, jumpers, lunch boxes, water bottles that ds2 8 lost last year!

Ds1 at 14 lost his rugby kit and boots over £130 worth, I phoned the school to complain as it was obviously stollen,as ds1 went to the toilet, came back and it was gone and all the school said was "oh dear I'm sure no one would steal it!" they even tried to give him a detention 3 days later for not having the correct kit.

Yabu we had the same thing happen the first year of secondary school regarding blazers, some got them on time, some didn't. Not the end of the world

Sassybeast · 15/08/2011 16:30

Euphemia - when it rains on a wool blazer, you smell like a wet dog

HTH

geraldinetheluckygoat · 15/08/2011 16:30

LOL@ "Cag in a bag" Grin

seb1 · 15/08/2011 16:32

That is why you can't get waterproof/fleece reversible coats they are always sold out at our local school shop but blazers, school dresses, boys shorts and ankle socks there are hundreds of them.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 15/08/2011 16:32

OP you are very good at AIBU bingo.

pink4ever · 15/08/2011 16:33

If my A Level law memory serves me right, theft: dishonestly appropriates property belonging to another, with the intention to permanently deprive.

Since the lady you spoke to has said she hopes to sort out the missing item, I don't think they satisfy the criteria for a theft charge. Sorry.

Oh, YABU.
