I consider myself an active proponent of equality of opportunity and a stern critic of discrimination... and yet I find that I can't identify with many of the viewpoints I encounter on the MN feminism page (and often say so). AIBU?

I am determined to come in November because it's in London and that is much easier for me plus August/Sept is always a mare for us

BBQFrenzy · 15/08/2011 18:33

ooh thanks Hagocrat - even better it's round the corner from me so childcare permitting I really have no excuse - will cough up my fiver forthwith

ThePosieParker · 15/08/2011 18:33

BBQ....Have you signed the SEV licenses stuff? JessinAvalon posted.

BBQFrenzy · 15/08/2011 18:38

Has that angry graphic artist (the one who does the tripe anti-misandry animations with the strange slightly out of sync vocoder voices for the characters) been around again yet? Am having a break off FB at the moment so have not had a chance to check out his Mumsnet Sucks page recently but can't stop thinking what a strange person he must be in RL - what drives someone like that? There must be some personal bitterness at the heart of that level of vitriol surely?

ChickensAwwww good pic. How do the Alpacas manage to look so haughty and yet so ridiculous at the same time? Alpacas and Llamas must be related to Camels surely?

CheerfulYank · 15/08/2011 18:38

This thread has made me want a farm.

I often wondered that about goats, too...do you have to keep breeding them to get milk? I would assume you do.

As far as the OP goes, many of the feminist threads I agree with whole-heartedly. Some I think are barking mad. Some of the regular feminist posters I adore, and there are a few I find very distasteful.

So...pretty much like any other group of people. Shocking. Hmm

BBQFrenzy · 15/08/2011 18:40

No PP I will go and have a root in women's rights section - know Jess is very active in Bristol so will go and add my support.

I got all activist over the NoTW hacking and started sending emails to MPs and signing petitions etc so I should really be able to put the same amount of effort in for this!

Thanks SGM

Love the way this thread might have persuaded a few MNers to reconsider having a browse in the Feminism section or getting more involved. Bit of an own goal really if the intention was to start a ruck!

Winning non-existant battles reminds me of totalitarian propoganda BBQ... Invent a war and then say you won it. Classic Grin

Is being active and an activist the same thing then?

I've booked my Fem 11 ticket too. Hoping I'll be able to actually find some of you this time Grin

Yeah, my problem at FiL was failing to get to the Euston meeting point beforehand. I won't make that mistake again!

Scroll through photos!! I never noticed before.

I don't know whether being active and activism are the same thing Jenny - am still waiting to hear your views what being an active proponent of equality of opportunity means?

Lenin, do you have a link....I'm feeling like I should commit now!! May make a weekend of it, a bit of activism with Jess (playboy bar anyone?)

Portofino · 15/08/2011 19:37

I used to disagree a lot with posters in the Feminist section. But I have been educating myself, listening, learning, thinking about different points of view. I had seen many book recommendations for the Equality Illusion.

I have just read it. The scales have fallen from my eyes.

This book should be required reading for everyone. And Dittany, if you are lurking there somewhere, I owe you a thousand apologies for my ignorance and rudeness in the past. Blush

I still have long way to go, but I finally see the true relevance of Feminism in a way I never did before. It is life-changing stuff.
