I consider myself an active proponent of equality of opportunity and a stern critic of discrimination... and yet I find that I can't identify with many of the viewpoints I encounter on the MN feminism page (and often say so). AIBU?

RL can be a bastard like that sometimes! Never mind you are back now and can answer the back log of questions that some had for you, that should be entertaining!

Whatmeworry · 15/08/2011 17:46

Re very entertaining; we have had discussions that have included frothiness, chickens and coronas. We are currently at 332 messages and, despite a few little spats, everything has been going along nicely

I look forward to your article in the DM or Cosmo or whoever it is you are writing for then....

You can shave alpacas. I suppose you use the fleece, but it might just be fun making one look like a giant french poodle.

KRIKRI · 15/08/2011 17:47

From what I understand, geese and swans are more likely to follow feminist principles. Males and females have similar plumage, they share parenting responsibilities and tend to mate for life. And, same sex life-pairings are not unusual.

With ducks though, huge groups of drakes can mob a female, taking turns to have very forceful sex with her, and it is not unusual for a female to drown in the process.

Perhaps those she ducks just don't say "no" clearly enough. :(

evenlessnarkypuffin · 15/08/2011 17:47

They can't. They just do wet shits everywhere. Including their water

I know that really. It's one of the reasons I don't have any. Your blog shows all the great bits about having them but also covers the less glamorous bits well Grin. Also the dogs might try to eat them.

in lieu of real chickens puffin or to aid him in his hunting?

As a substitute. I can't imagine that the chickens would find him that convincing, and even if they did, from what I've read chickens aren't always very friendly to other birds.

Mallards are like that. I'm not sure if all ducks are.

Chickens can be rather forceful, too. And not just the dudes. My top hen regularly simulates sex with her underlings, and they don't seem particularly happy about it.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 15/08/2011 17:50

ROFL at "jester costumes".

OP if one of your "activities" is wasting the time of feminists and women who want to know more about feminism, then I can possibly see why you're not entirely hugged to the bosom of the feminist section.

Everyone else - you're lovely, hope to see you over there soon if you're not already.

I haven't posted that much there lately, but IME it's important that you read what everyone is saying in response to your views, not just reading the person who disagrees with you and stalking off in high dudgeon. Soooo often other posters will come on to debate or defend if they think that someone has been given a hard time unfairly, only to find that their efforts are ignored because the person is only paying attention to critical remarks. There are regulars, but it's definitely not a hive-mind otherwise I wouldn't find myself gritting my teeth so often when reading and I know for a fact that some of the regulars used to post saying that they hid the feminism section :o

AliceTwirled · 15/08/2011 17:51

Do people really do that tho SAF? Like I know that's what happens in the meat industry, but is that what people with goats in their gardens do?

KRIKRI · 15/08/2011 17:51

Apologies Evenlessnarkypuffin. I didn't mean to suggest that all drakes were rapists. I mean, there are many, many kinds of wildfowl out there, but the fact that other species don't intervene to help female mallards when they are clearly not consenting, well . . .

Pagwatch · 15/08/2011 17:51

A turkey and a Labrador had a fight in our garden when we were staying in France years ago. The turkey lost half it's feathers but won. Nasty red necked fuckers. And a swan attacked my dog.
Big birds don't like dogs. Fact.

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 15/08/2011 17:52

Garden goats are usually just for milk, or as unusual pets IME. Very few suburban keepers are slaughtering goats for dinner.

AliceTwirled · 15/08/2011 17:52

RL is posting elsewhere then is it Jenny?

evenlessnarkypuffin · 15/08/2011 17:53

Drakes are male ducks. Mallards are the common duck that we see on ponds (and the ancestors of most domestic ducks so you're probably right about that behaviour in their case.)

There are all sorts of ducks wild in the UK an lots of the, don't quack. Tufted ducks, Pintail, Widgeon (great word), Pochard, Gadwall, Shelduck and Goldeneye are just a few.

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 15/08/2011 17:54

My friend twatted a swan around the head with her handbag. It was attempting to eat her 2 year old daughter at the time, and the fucker chased us up the path and to the car park. At which point my friend said 'Enough!', stood her ground and twatted it. It just made it angrier. We had to hide in the car until it got off the bonnet. There is a moral in there somewhere.

AliceTwirled · 15/08/2011 17:54

so how do they keep the milk flowing ChickensHaveNoEyebrows without getting overrun with babies? I have been wondering this for sooo long.

evenlessnarkypuffin · 15/08/2011 17:54

You don't need a male around for ducks/chickens to lay eggs. Only if you need them to lay fertile eggs.

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 15/08/2011 17:55

Hang on. Ducks that don't quack? Really? What do they do?

jennyvstheworld · 15/08/2011 17:55
