To think that "place marking" is just fucking rude

I've just read a distressing thread (as opposed to an amusing thread where I don't really mind so much) on which the OP needed help support and the number of posters who have just typed ".", presumably to place mark has really pissed me off.

It's not fucking entertainment folks and if you want to treat it as such at least have the decency not to be so blatant about it and try one of these approaches:

i) Add something useful

or

ii) type something appropriate: you've clicked on the message box and are going to click and wait on the post button so why so hard to type "good luck" of "OMG that is awful"

or

ii) Add to your watched threads

AIBU to think it is really not that hard not to behave like a rude rubbernecker

The GP thread was a troll? Well bloody hell.

gapants · 15/08/2011 12:30

wow the GP one was trollery, why oh why would you do that, there were a couple of MN who actually lost sleep over that! Bloody trolls.

I though the whole ".." thing was a typo up until today.

Have to say the GP one did not read trolly to me....just don't get it TBH,

Late night, drama-filled posts from unknown posters, often containing developing and possibly dangerous situations and rife with the potential to 'disappear' and leave people guessing = basic trollery 101.

Of course sometimes the stories are real which is why you just report and move on if you have suspicions. Which many people did.

SardineQueen · 15/08/2011 16:36

That was a troll?

Man, am I shit at spotting trolls!

QuintessentialShadow · 15/08/2011 20:37

It is a bit like ebay. If an offer is too good to be true, it usually isnt.

If a story is too unlikely to be true, it usually isnt true. Benefit of the doubt. I guess lots of posters just alerted mnhq without shouting trollery on the thread.

LadyBeagleEyes · 15/08/2011 20:43

That was a very good post Quint.
In fact the smartest one I've read since this last is she/isn't she a troll.

QuintessentialShadow · 15/08/2011 20:48

You mean, the smartest post since SardineQueens post just below mine?

ha ha ha.

SardineQueen · 15/08/2011 21:51

Hey, my post was pretty fucking incisive.
