To wish I'd had the bottle to ask woman at park what her 3rd dc was called?

one of these small things that will bug me all night :)

She had three beautiful boys (I was there with my 3 beautiful girls ;)) and I heard her calling two of the sons by names I had picked out when pregnant, now I really want to know if the 3rd name would have been as lovely or totally spoiled my opinion of how fab she was at picking boys names!

If you stay in bath and know any siblings called Oscar and Jacob can you please let me know what the other brother is called? Grin

Oscar and Jacob?

Original....not! The third was probably Jasper or Oliver or Horatio....or some other predictable drivel

Glitterandglue · 11/08/2011 20:53

I have never thought of Horatio as predictable...in fact, I've never in my life met a Horatio. Or known about anyone else who's met one.

This thread just reminded me of the other day - went to the park with my cousin and her kids, and her youngest girl (just 4) went off and made a friend. When they came running back to us later on, followed by grandparents, grandad said, "She told us her name is Cinderella!" (It is not. At all.) Grin

Andrewofgg · 11/08/2011 20:54

Can't help but it's a curious thought that most of us have a "shadow name" - the one we'd have been lumbered with given if we'd had the other sort of chromosomes.

You can all see my first name. I was to have been Beatrice - anybody share my opinion that - setting all wider questions aside - in that matter I was lucky to be male?

Groovee · 11/08/2011 20:56

Oh my friend has 3 boys and 2 girls and 2 of the boys are Oscar and Jacob. Which part of the world are you in OP?

mrspear · 11/08/2011 20:57

Andrew my dad wanted to call me Gertrude - he still thinks it is a wonderful name. Thank god my mum got to the registry office first!

branstonsandcheese · 11/08/2011 20:58

My bet is Sebastian.

picnicbasketcase · 11/08/2011 20:58

The other one was called Zebedee.

fluffywhitekittens · 11/08/2011 20:58

I quite like Beatrice now and was considering it for a middle name if ds had been dd. My dad's been researching our family tree and there was a Beatrice, not do sure about using it as a first name but can think of a lot worse :)
I know my brother would have been Hannah, which is an odd thought ...

Mrsgilbertgrape · 11/08/2011 20:59

Yes horatio is very predictable, there are three in my dd's class Hmm Grin

CurrySpice · 11/08/2011 21:00

Really!? I've never met a horatio! I must live a sheltered life!!

Mrsgilbertgrape · 11/08/2011 21:00

We were visiting family in bath, not quite sure what part of bath it was though!

MadameLupino · 11/08/2011 21:01

Bet you fifty quid it was Noah.

Groovee · 11/08/2011 21:02

My friend's other lad is Elijah known as Eli.

Mrsgilbertgrape · 11/08/2011 21:05

Ah yes, hope it was Noah, that was another name on my (predictable drivel) list!

jacob is a drivel name....? i am prego and considering it mrsgilbert would you prefer a kayden or kai or some such?

Bellethebelltent · 11/08/2011 21:12

I know Oscar and Jacob brothers, but they don't have a younger. Must be a common pairing?

I really dislike the name Jacob or Jake though sorry. Oscar is cute though

happily my other son is not an oscar or a noah but it would probably be considered in that ilk.

DeWe · 11/08/2011 21:14

If I'd been a boy I'd have been Cedric. Did I have a narrow escape!!
Luckily they'd grown out of that by the time db was born. They nearly managed to give him the initials TDS (say it out loud) but avoided it (just) in time.

NoNoNoMYDoIt · 11/08/2011 21:17

Ben

(only because I have a cat called Oscar, a son called Jacob, and DD would have been Ben if she had been a boy)

or else Toby. I know a Jacob and Toby brother-combo.

NoNoNoMYDoIt · 11/08/2011 21:18

DeWe - cedric is a cool name. my teddy was cedric. ceddy the teddy.

MightyQuim · 11/08/2011 21:21

Don't knock predictable drivel. My dc both have popular names and coming from someone with an unusual name it is much better to blend in than stick out like a sore thumb at school!

MightyQuim · 11/08/2011 21:22

Also popular names tend to become popular because people like them - not a bad thing surely? Unless you are so precious that you don't want to encounter another living soul with the same name as your dc.

spookshowangel · 11/08/2011 21:29

i have an excessively popular name there was about 8 kids i my year with it but it doesnt really effect my life. when naming my kids i try to avoid the top ten most popular for the previous year not a problem with my son who is a Gabriel thats not even in the top 50 for the last 10 years Grin but obviously jacob has become very popular since twilight or at least thats the reason i would assume for its popularity thought whether people would admit it or not is another reason, it is the reason i vetoed it for my son 5 years ago though Grin
