Had a chat with DH last night and he thinks IABU

Due to go on a week long caravan hol with DH entire family next week...

MIL booked it as a 'treat' for us back in jan as we cannot afford to go this year.. she annouced last month that she her DH - her mum and dad will also be sharing the caravan with us making 6 adults and 3 kids in one caravan - with all our kids squished into the little room and me and dh on the fold out bed bit in the living room.
SIL & her DH have a caravan there and will be there with therir 7 kids - shes 7mth pregnant and isnt very mobile so MIL idea is that we entertain the kids while SIL has a break..ermmmm what about me?

DH isnt really good at speding alot of time with his own family (due to probs when he was a kid) as said last night that he thinks he will stay home and decorate for a few days while me and the kids go and have fun...... I have told him NO way i am spending a week being the glorified au par with no sleep(Dh grandad gets up at the crack of dawn and his mum with be at the bar till late )
I have said if he want the painting done i will happily stay behind on my own and paint the house whilst he takes the kids after all its HIS family and he has never had the kids on his own and just come back from a fishing trip with his dad - would be lovly to have the house to myself!

He thinks i ABU as i get on with his family better than him..???

Have been lurking on this thread since it started but have to mark my place ready for the update Grin

You are insane. You do realise those sofa beds are only 4' wide.........

CoffeeDog · 13/08/2011 08:12

MigratingCoconuts · 13/08/2011 08:15

why can't the bloody dogs stay with grandad???

when the dogs are barking at god knows what hour, just remember how much worse it could have been Wink

rookiemater · 13/08/2011 08:16

Could this be your get out clause? You are worried about the children and dogs in small space and you don't think it would be appropriate?

Clutches at staws, you are going aren't you and your DH will spend all his time in the site bar with BIL and SIL whilst you look after 10 children. Just do not say yes on any account to the next get together - not unless you have the funds to pay for your own separate accomodation

WhoseGotMyEyebrows · 13/08/2011 08:25

Did you not get annoyed when she told you that actually in your caravan you wouldn't even have a bedroom?! That would have pissed me right off!

EndoplasmicReticulum · 13/08/2011 08:38

Where are the dogs going to sleep?

Grandad sounds like a very sensible man and I think you should follow his example.

barleycorn · 13/08/2011 09:15

Definitely put the mil in the lounge, otherwise if you sleep in there with the dogs they'll be jumping onto the bed and licking your face at ungodly hours of the night.

MigratingCoconuts · 13/08/2011 09:22

yes! MIL in the lounge. You could sell it to her as easier to stagger to after being in the bar all evening....

hoolabombshell · 13/08/2011 09:35

Oh sweet jesus. Two words for you, coffee:

Holiday showdown.

And two more:

Good luck.

WhoseGotMyEyebrows · 13/08/2011 09:41

Why are you going again?

ShoutyHamster · 13/08/2011 10:03

Stay home with grandad. Even Antiques Roadshow on permanent loop for a week sounds bliss compared to the 'holiday'

Geordieminx · 13/08/2011 10:05

So 4 adults, 3 kids and 2 dogs in a caravan???

How many berth is it?

Please tell me they are jack Russell size and not bassetts/horse size

youarekidding · 13/08/2011 10:18

geordie Its 5 adults I think. Shock Makes it worse.

ledkr · 13/08/2011 10:26

good god! We are off to a cravan in two weeks, its enough for me that ther are 4 of us with little space, thin walls etc.and dh and i probably wont partake as i doubt dd1 wishes to lie in bed stsiring at the celing whilst we shake the caravan, you can hear people breathing thru the walls in those things Shock
I wou;dnt go i dont think. Can you get another van on same site just for you, there are some good late deals atm i got a good one on Haven.

Mumwithadragontattoo · 13/08/2011 10:33

Dogs as well? No way. Where will they sleep?

CoffeeDog · 13/08/2011 11:04

ones a VERY well trained lab (from an army family who had to relocate)
The other.... is a labrapoodle??? SIl got board of it after a few months..so got preggers agaon and rehomed it with nanny - It simpley nuts.... HUGE curly haired thing... the twins ride it like a pony.

MIL seems to think they will sleep on her bed (with her dh)... I am hoping that will stop the bedroom 'action' or the dogs 'howling' along may drown out the noise ;)

Keeping this thread on Watch to see update!

Bulmers · 13/08/2011 11:38

sussex Coast Holiday Park, eh? Any MNers in the vicinity who can go and spy wander round the area with a video camera?

PinkSchmoo · 13/08/2011 13:01

Never post without reading the thread but YANBU.

I'd prefer a prolonged break in guantanamoo bay than this "treat".

harrap · 13/08/2011 13:14

No, no, no, a thousand times no.

PinkSchmoo · 13/08/2011 14:00

Any chance you could get there first, steal the bedroom and be really obtuse about moving out?

I am stunned that you are going. Why not send DH and DD for a few days and you and DTs to join them? She isn't disappointed, you aren't jailed and you can have a home based emergency which means you can't go??

Just don't go. Really nothing will make this anything less than horrific.

youarekidding · 13/08/2011 14:50

Which park? I have been to E sussex in a caravan this holiday and got a very cheap deal for 4 nights. Maybe you could do that and stay nearby - but far enough away not to commit murder to still have some space?

InfestationofLannisters · 13/08/2011 21:26

We're going to an East Sussex caravan park on Friday for three nights.

I'll look out for the police vans.

Come and drink wine offload before it comes to that if you like!

youarekidding · 14/08/2011 17:15

infestation where you going? Wonders if where I went?
