Send in the army and the tanks

cricketballs · 09/08/2011 00:34

HerHissyness - well said!

Pandemoniaa · 09/08/2011 00:35

Send in the Army? To do what, exactly? Kill people?
No thanks. Because killing, as it happens, tends to get a bit indiscriminate.

Nihilisticbunny · 09/08/2011 00:35

It's all just mad, coupled with the economic doom happening atm, for the first time I'm honestly scared what the future will bring, the idiotic turkeys voting for Christmas don't help.

joric · 09/08/2011 00:37

Community defence?? Confused

CarrieOakey · 09/08/2011 00:38

I agree send in the Forces but no not to kill them to reinforce the police force who clearly do not have the numbers to get this under control. Sending in the Forces does not equal bullets.

joric · 09/08/2011 00:38

Are you a defence lawyer?

joric · 09/08/2011 00:38

That was to bitoffun BTW!

NotADudeExactly · 09/08/2011 00:39

Not sure how much experience everyone in this country has with the army in the streets.

FWIW the last time I saw an army in a city I also happened to see a twelve year old child's head split in two by a tank shell.

Granted, this was during a war and not in the UK. But believe me, you do NOT want the army on the streets of a city!

MrsFlittersnoop · 09/08/2011 00:43

Custardo -

Fret ye not.

This is a fabulously anarchic urban phenomenon.

They will collapse in a heap of stolen plasma screens tomorrow!!

Anyone attempting this sort of shit in the provinces will be kicked into touch.

Pandemoniaa · 09/08/2011 00:48

My teenage years were spent living in Belfast during the Troubles. I've seen a little of what happens when martial law is declared.

Trust me, you cannot send armies into anywhere without expecting significant (innocent) casualties. Because the Army doesn't stand around politely asking people to move along. They shoot first and hold Public Inquiries later.

NotADudeExactly · 09/08/2011 00:51

Pandemoniaa, exactly what I mean. Different place, but your experience seems to confirm mine there.

I actually find the idea of having the army on the streets really scary personally.

GaramMasalaGirl · 09/08/2011 00:51

Well said Hissy and NotADude

Are we forgetting about what happened to Ian Tomlinson? The Army and their rubber bullets just makes me feel sick at the thought of an innocent passer by being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

creighton · 09/08/2011 07:37

I don't want the army on the streets. but anyone on the streets at 9pm when all the shops and restaurants are shut and the commuters have gone home is not innocent, they are there waiting to see what happens and whether they can join the fighting and looting.

ninjasquirrel · 09/08/2011 07:43

"Anyone on the streets at 9pm... is not innocent." I think you might have illustrated Custardo's point quite well there.

elinorbellowed · 09/08/2011 07:46

BitOFFUn, can you link to the news about Green St please? Thank you!

Chandon · 09/08/2011 07:48

bollocks. labour was and is a lot more totalitarian than the Tories. At least with the Tories they believe in civil liberties a lot more than Labour! twas Labour who wanted everyone to carry IDs, twas Labour who went into illegal war and lied to the people, twas Labour who started interfering more and more into people's personal freedom.

TimeWasting · 09/08/2011 07:56

Chandon, that was New Labour. Tory Lite after all.

In the meantime my friend was in a restaurant last night when looting thugs came in and hijacked the diners, they took jewellery, cash, cards, mobile phones and smashed up the restaurant.

I want these feral fuckers hit so fucking hard, I want their benefits removed so that they spend all time wondering how they're going to eat and where they're going to sleep. They won't have time to terrorise innocent people then.

This is a civilised country and I would rather it stayed that way.

TimeWasting · 09/08/2011 08:03

Yeah cos disenfranchising the lumpenproleteriat further is really going to stop them in their tracks.

Malificence · 09/08/2011 08:06

Bring in the Army and water cannons - these scum aren't interested in political change, they want to loot and destroy what they can't be bothered to work for.

Looters should be shot on sight.

TimeWasting · 09/08/2011 08:08

And people who get mistaken for looters?

Malificence · 09/08/2011 08:11

How exactly, would someone be mistaken for a looter?

It's not Goverment prohibiting free speech and peaceful protest, it's the so called anarchists and thugs who jump on any available, vaild protest to wreak violence and mayhem.

TimeWasting · 09/08/2011 08:18

Same way Ian Tomlinson got mistaken for a protester. Human error.

And shooting people committing crimes against property?
