An establishment like 'Hooters' is pathetic and wrong?

OP posts:
squeakytoy · 07/08/2011 12:59

But BIMBO, everyone knows what Hooters is about. It isnt exactly a surprise to go in and be waited on by a girl in a tight top and shorts is it?

You can object all you like, but nobody is forcing you to go in there, or work there.

For the people who are customers, men AND women, it is fun. For the girls, and men, who choose to work there, it is fun.

BimboNo5 · 07/08/2011 13:00

Its revolting. But while other women are so happy to play up to this looking good and being nothing more than a pretty little server men will be the leering pervs they are allowed to be.

OP posts:
squeakytoy · 07/08/2011 13:00

Abercrombie is usually so darkly lit you can hardly see the clothes, never mind the store assistants Grin.

squeakytoy · 07/08/2011 13:01

Bimbo, have you ever been into a Hooters?

worraliberty · 07/08/2011 13:01

Yes and thats why I dislike the concept FFS!

So you must be a very angry person in general when it comes to pretty/handsome people using their looks to earn money? Sad

catgirl1976 · 07/08/2011 13:02

A lot of Hooters girls are putting themselves through college aren't they? So I think it is you Bimbo not they who are seeing them as nothing more than "pretty little servers"

And as for being "happy to play up to this looking good"...erm - is there something wrong with wanting to look good?

BimboNo5 · 07/08/2011 13:02

Why, does that warrant whether im permitted to express an opinion on the whole concept of it or not?

OP posts:
catgirl1976 · 07/08/2011 13:02

Ah boo squeaky. I might take a torch :)

squeakytoy · 07/08/2011 13:04

Yes it does, because you are judging an establisment without really knowing what it is like inside. Unless you have been inside Hooters, then all you are basing your views on, are your pre-conceptions, which are to be quite honest, mis-conceptions.

catgirl1976 · 07/08/2011 13:04

BTW - I don't think you have a very nice view of men Bimbo. Which is odd, as you have said in a few posts you think sexism is unacceptable and then you make some really sexist comments. Bit odd that?

BimboNo5 · 07/08/2011 13:06

I know the concept of the place. I know enough about it from various sources so dont worry about me having misconceptions Squeaky. Why is it sexist to say men leer at women in skimpy clothes and judge them on their looks? Of course they do which is why places like Hooters exist and porn empires such as playboy/penthouse etc. Really how naieve can you get Catgirl.

OP posts:
worraliberty · 07/08/2011 13:10

I don't think you have a nice view of pretty women either OP

Reading back, your posts come across as angry, bitter and quite insulting to the women who work there.

You've had more than a few digs about their fake tans (considering the dangers of UVA rays, they're quite a sensible alternative)

You've also made references to them being nothing more than pretty airheads there to do nothing more than serve and look pretty.

IMO you should actually go there...chat to the staff and you'll probably find quite a few very intelligent women there.

And guess what? You'll also find some male customers who credit them with intelligence as well as beauty...not one or the other as you seem to be doing.

catgirl1976 · 07/08/2011 13:13

It's not sexist to say men leer at women in skimpy clothes Bimbo. I didn't say it was. I said you seemed to not have a very nice view of men (calling them "pervs" etc) which I think IS sexistas you are ascribing negative characteristics to 50% of the population based entirely on their sex.

BimboNo5 · 07/08/2011 13:15

Ive nothing against pretty women. or ugly women. And know for a fact pretty and ugly and fat or underweight women are more than capable of waiting on tables. So why do places like Hooters only take on the pleasing to the eye waitresses? Because they can, and because nobody objects. I notice nobody has answered my points about disabled/disfigured people and whether it would be okay for them to have a job out the way of the public eye to please the customers?

OP posts:
catgirl1976 · 07/08/2011 13:17

Bimbo - why do you assume customers would find someone disabled dis-pleasing to the eye? That's pretty offensive.

EssentialFattyAcid · 07/08/2011 13:20

I don't think you need to go to Hooters to know what its like tbh
hootersgirls

One more time for the slower amongst the Hooter fans: nobody has said that women should not be free to work at Hooters and nobody has said that women who work there are unintelligent so it is quite tedious to repeatedly hear this point since there is absolutely zero dissention here.

Seems to be as though you need fake boobs to get a job there. Surely they are discriminating employers - is this legal?

BrawToken's post describes her experience of working in bars in revealing outfits. Doesn't sound like "fun" to me although I am sure lots of her leering male customers were having "fun".

seasidesister · 07/08/2011 13:20

I think its embarrassing that it exists in 2011. Its like going back to the 70s, topless girls on beer cans, pans people all that stuff.

BimboNo5 · 07/08/2011 13:21

Is that what I said? No it isnt Catgirl as usual you are just saying what you want and implying its come from me. I said would it be okay to put someone in a wheelchair out of the public eye as they dont find it looks good, or those who are disfigured.
How about you actually READ what ive typed instead of getting outraged about things that arent actually there?

OP posts:
catgirl1976 · 07/08/2011 13:23

You do not need to havew fake boobs to work there. You need to be attractive as it is a "Bona Fide Occuaptional Qualification". Same as you need to be attractive to work as a fashion model etc. So yes - its legal.

Bimbo did say she wished women did not have the choice to work at Hooters and she did say the waitresses were allowing themselves to be "gmore than pretty little servers", so sadly "EFA" she is saying they should not be free to work there and that they are not intellegent.

worraliberty · 07/08/2011 13:24

Your question about disabled/disfigured people is irrelivant because because due to discrimination laws, they are not kept out of the public eye Confused

Would you feel just as angry if a disabled person was refused a job at a roller skating restaurant because they can't roller skate... or would you suggest they applied to work at a restaurant that doesn't require them to skate?

In the same vein...if a woman was refused a job at Hooters because she didn't like the skimpy outfits or because she wasn't attractive...would you not suggest she applies to work in the literally 1000s of other restaurants in the UK, instead of one that requires beauty and skimpy outfits?

This conversation seems to have gone right back to the start!

I'm off to buy the Sunday dinner Grin

BimboNo5 · 07/08/2011 13:25

No I said I wish the choice wasnt wearing revealing outfits to work there. You are a bit of a tool really with this putting words into my mouth and not actually reading what I write. Im going to disengage with you as its actually quite ignorant when you cant even quote someone in context.

OP posts:
catgirl1976 · 07/08/2011 13:26

I notice nobody has answered my points about disabled/disfigured people and whether it would be okay for them to have a job out the way of the public eye to please the customers?

In that statement, you are making the assumption that it would please the customers to have disabled people out of the public eye.

I am just asking why you make that assumption. I am not outraged by you Bimbo.

BimboNo5 · 07/08/2011 13:28

Because like I said, people may think being in a wheelchair doesnt look good, so is it therefore ok to discriminate?

OP posts:
catgirl1976 · 07/08/2011 13:32

Well I don't know anyone who thinks that Bimbo. Hmm Of course it isn't ok to discriminate.

BimboNo5 · 07/08/2011 13:33

Unless its on the basis of sexism/looks? Because thats what the crux of this discussion seems to be really.
