All of the other sub-genres have had one: grunge, New Romantics, punks, Goths (Topshop did a very good Siouxie Sioux type range a few years back)

HAIR METAL. Needs a comeback. I have a wardrobe full of hair metal band t-shorts just dying to be worn. I want to see men with huge, hairsprayed hair and spandex leggings. AIBU?

Ibwould love to see that! Have you seen the dani california video by the red hot chili peppers? It is music through the ages and they do an amazing hair metal scene , I would love to see a band who looked like that.

Jenstar at the memory of gig induced injuries. In my passport photo spanning the 10 year period 1992-2002, I had a badly concealed black eye after being on the receiving end of a para boot belonging to a crowd surfer at a Nirvana gig.

Fast forward several years and I sustained the same injury in identical circumstances, only it was the Beastie Boys on stage that time.

I wore those shiners with pride Grin

Then there was the time that my friend and I thought it would be a good idea to get on the mosh pit at Rage Against The Machine...we survived with only minor contusions but some poor lad had to give me his shirt to tie round my waist to protect my dignity after he ripped the back pocket (and most of the arse) out of my Levis.

Aah...happy days.

Anyone up for an MN field trip to Sonisphere then?

GeetTallBird · 08/08/2011 08:20

Field trip?! yes please...though my advancing years would really prefer a b&b!!

GingerWrath · 08/08/2011 10:05

Not done Sonisphere but did Download and Reading in 2004, did Monsters of rock in '90 and '92. Proper old school one day festival. The tickets and the coach from and to South Wales set me back the whopping sum of £35 Grin

Hoping to take my DD to either Download or Sonisphere next year. She'll be nearly six and is currently stood next to me in her Nightmare Before Christmas t shirt.

GingerWrath · 08/08/2011 10:06

Oh and did Toxic Twin Towers at Wembley with Aerosmith headlining!

PervyMuskrat · 08/08/2011 10:44

DH & I have done Sonisphere for the last 3 years & will be going next year (decent line up and babysitter permitting), but will definitely be going for the VIP camping option. I am way too old to be entertained by packs of pissed teenagers shouting "Alan, Alan, Alan" outside my tent until 4am!

upahill · 08/08/2011 11:40

I haven't done many festivals but the first one I did was when my mum and dad where on holiday and I was staying at my nan's.
I was 16 and my nan allowed me to go to Reading festival on the back of my boyfriends motorbike and camp with him all weekend.

To this day my mum and dad still don't know that!!

Re Dan Reed Many years ago they did a record signing in the town I was living in. My mate fancied the gutarist so we went along. What an arrogant wanker!! She asked for an autograph and he just put his hand up and walked away. God it's not like they were the Rolling Stones or anything. In fact none of my other mates had heard of them and only about 10 people had turned up.

Re Dani Califonia. This has been on my iPod since it came out! What a great vid. Love the rock through the ages theme!! The Kurt Cobain bit is pretty damm acurate from the 'man who sold the world' set

geet, I'm in Cambridgeshire now, but I grew up in the North East. Way back then, the Mayfair was the venue of choice, when we could get to it. Ah, I remember the good old days - lining up to see Dogs D'Amour with our fags out, bandannas on. Then swiftly shoving the cigs behind our back as my mates mum drove past shouting 'see you later girls dont be late'.

lynniep · 09/08/2011 00:10

Mayfair....on a Friday nig-igh-ight....

GeetTallBird · 09/08/2011 10:28

The Mayfair was class! Jostling for position with eyeliner and hairspray in the ladies, all under a cloud of cigarette smoke. Snakebite in pint glasses!
Trillians, LYH and Legends on a Saturday night now. Once a year if I'm lucky!!
