All of the other sub-genres have had one: grunge, New Romantics, punks, Goths (Topshop did a very good Siouxie Sioux type range a few years back)

HAIR METAL. Needs a comeback. I have a wardrobe full of hair metal band t-shorts just dying to be worn. I want to see men with huge, hairsprayed hair and spandex leggings. AIBU?

There are places inmy town where hair metal has never gone away and is alive and kicking!!!

upahill · 06/08/2011 10:38

This thread is making me happy!!

squeakytoy · 06/08/2011 10:50

LA guns are still going, although they have split into two bands now, each with part of the band members.

I love Hanoi Rocks, Faster Pussycat, Tesla, Cinderella, Y & T .. to think of a few off the top of my head. Oh, and Lita Ford and Joan Jett were my idols.

NoJusticeJustUs · 06/08/2011 11:14

Can I just say, Tommy Lee and David Lee Roth were my whole life !

Thats all

As you were

GingerWrath · 06/08/2011 11:17

I wanted Lita Ford's hair! Or Doro Pesch's.

fairieswearboots · 06/08/2011 11:58

Anyone remember Rock Nite at Roxy's in Sheffield? One monday a month. Any whiff of strong hold hairspray takes me straight back. Happy days. Always preferred more of your classic rock but hair metal was great fun. Saw iron maiden this week- great gig, great atmosphere, rockers of all ages.

InWithTheITCrowd · 06/08/2011 12:55

Ooh, I had a listen to 18 & Life last night for a trip down memory lane! I actually met Seb Bach at Rock City! :) Good times. Yes, it's still there, but it's not the same.
I am a Metallica fan, though, in the main, and also met James Hetfield - but sadly had no such liaison with him.
Snogged Mike Patton once too - remember him?
Sigh,....

upahill · 06/08/2011 15:04

Re:Mike Patten Faith No More reformed and are still together (which is a good thing!!)

Saw Joan Jett a couple of years ago when she was supporting Alice Cooper.
We thought ALice had come on early at first!!!!!!!

Where were you lot years ago??
I was the only girl rocker in my area and the only one that got into NWBHM.

Not one other person liked Angel Witch, Vardis, Maiden, Diamond Head , Tygers of Pan Tang, Saxon and all the others.
My mum nearly passed out when I said I fancied Lemmy (Why I said that I do not know!!!)

Saw Saxon in March.THey did all old and new stuff and sounded brilliant.

I saw the Quire boys twice - once in Blackburn and the other excatly a week later when I went to meet a lad I met on holiday in London.

I had such a thing for Bruce Dickinson. He was well fit but I totally get the Seb Bach!!

GeetTallBird · 06/08/2011 15:11

We need a reunion!

upahill · 06/08/2011 15:25

Got 18 and life in my head all day now!!

18 and life You got it
18 and life you know
Your crime is time and it's
18 and life to go

repeat for the rest of the day and most of tomorrow as well

VirgoGrr · 06/08/2011 15:43

upahill Dont be mean about Joan Jett, I think she's wearing quite well. Was quite surprised she wasnt more crumbling when I saw pics from the premiere of the Runaways film.

Biff Byford came to my college to do a guest lecture to my course. (It was a music related course, however, I dont think the course leader's celeb contacts book was exactly bulging Grin)
He came on a weekday afternoon wearing brown leather trousers and waistcoat, no shirt and aviators. Rock n Roll!! \m/

Was dying to ask him about the special singing teeth, but bottled it. Grin

upahill · 06/08/2011 15:54

I love Joan Jett!!!

It was just that we were at the arena in Manchester and as you may know it is huge. The stage was miles away and people were driffting in.

She was warming up or doing a song I didn't know but all I could make out was a skinny figure with long straggly hair dressed all in black!!

Come on!! it could have been Alice!!!!!!!!!!!!

VirgoGrr · 06/08/2011 15:54

InWithTheITCrowd, I think we need some more details please.

IIRC, one of Seb Bach's very defining features was that he's VERY LOUD!!!, ALL THE TIME!!!

Was that just for show, or did he do that shouting constantly? No matter how hot he was, I think that bellowing in your face at close range would get a bit wearing. Grin

upahill · 06/08/2011 15:56

Oh If Biff Byford turned up on a college course I was on I would have been mega impressed with the tutor!!

InWithTheITCrowd · 06/08/2011 16:42

VirgoGrr - I met him at Rock City the week before they played Donington, and just sort of spent the week with him. He wasn't particularly loud, but I recall there was LOTS of drinking!
I suspect they are not the details you want.....? ;)

HuckingFell · 06/08/2011 17:52

No. Other details please Grin

squeakytoy · 06/08/2011 17:54

I saw Joan Jett last year when she was supporting Green Day and she was superb. :)

spout · 06/08/2011 18:01
Envy
spout · 06/08/2011 18:04

Bupcakes - I had a big crush on the bass player from the Quireboys as a teenager. Still the coolest man named Nigel that I can think of. Grin

fairieswearboots · 06/08/2011 18:29

If Saxon count as hair rock then I give you a very rude encounter with one of them that friday night mumsnetters would be proud of Wink

DrCoconut · 06/08/2011 19:01

Danger Danger. That brings back memories. And TNT too. I got rid of my little lycra skirt relatively recently having finally accepted that I am fat will never fit into it again!

GingerWrath · 06/08/2011 19:25

I had a huge crush on Axl Rose, but in the early days, only cause he was a fellow Ginge, now I think he is a twat.

I have expanded into what I previously thought was crap music. I am now a huge Metallica fan, I somewhat dodgily (is that a word?!) have a thing for James Hetfield and I think Corey Taylor has the sexiest and most versatile voice EVER!

Baz was classically trained in opera, I would imagine certain (ahem) sexual activities were awesome owing to the fact he could hold his breath with a great set of lungs!

upahill · 06/08/2011 19:28

Nothing dodgy about having a thing for James Hetfield!!

If you ever get to see Metallica live go! They are superb and go way beyond just giving a performance.

One of the best gigs out of hundreds I have been to.

GingerWrath · 06/08/2011 19:33

upahill I was at Download in 2004 when Lars didn't turn up, was awesome with Joey from Slipknot and the drummer from Slayer standing in. Also saw them at Wembley in 2007...DD then 11mo looked awesome in her 'Metal up your booty' baby grow (although I got some dirty looks at playgroup!)

upahill · 06/08/2011 19:36

ginger that's fantastic!!
