Now the laptop can be anything as long is has wifi so I can skype and is good condition.

And the 32" flatscreen tv must be suitable for the playroom.

Seriously though, why do they let these people on Freecycle? Grin

This one is not grasping but just odd:

I would really love to find a vintage suitcase for my travel themed wedding.
Please can someone email if they have something suitable - preferably with
lining!

Thank you

Why would you have a travel themed wedding? Are the bridesmaids going to dress up as air hostesses?

Bearcrumble · 06/08/2011 21:01

And this one - it seems that the children regularly destroy their furniture. I can't get over the 'again':

Dear All

Alas, it is that time again when the children have started to destroy
everything and due to playing bouncy castles and monkeys they have broken
the bunk bed and almost destroyed the wardrobe, so I would be grateful if
anyone had any type of bunk bed/bed frame and wardrobe which they no longer
need.

Only problem is we no longer have a car and this would make it a little
difficult to collect immediately, but nevertheless I would be able to
arrange something.

Many thanks in advance.

whackamole · 06/08/2011 22:15

The best one on ours was asking for a small car - only if it has at least 6 month tax and MOT on it.

They weren't fussy on the make though.

I must admit we did get our 3 piece bathroom suite off Freecycle - but it was offeredm we didn't request - AND we picked it up! Got lots of baby stuff when the boys were small and gave a lot away after, hasn't been anything decent recently though.

Meglet · 06/08/2011 22:46

My all time local favourite wanted was,

Wanted; Grey African Parrot. Ours has died and the kids are really upset.

DitaVonCheese · 06/08/2011 23:09

I am loving some of these wanteds Grin

Awomancalledhorse · 07/08/2011 01:23

Wanted; furniture, Hi I am viewing a property tonight and hopefully by the sounds of it it's mine in which case I need furniture

Make any sense to anyone? Did they misplace their house?

M0naLisa · 07/08/2011 01:29

i have people on fb posting in the "stuff for sale in XXX area" saying things like

anyone got a phil and teds free?

one the other day was and it keeps popping up

2 bed house swap, want a 3 bed in nice area.

Hmm
gallicgirl · 07/08/2011 11:12

@awomancalledhorse.

It's a council/social housing thing.

If you get to view a house, it's pretty much your tenancy if you want it and the council will pressure you to sign the tenancy agreement straight away so they get their rent from that week. If you're vulnerably housed or living with someone else and go into social housing, you're not going to have the money for furniture so I can understand why freecycle is so important. Not very elegantly worded though, is it?

bananamam · 07/08/2011 11:33

I just gave away a laptop! It's quite old though!

Also one woman who was pregnant with child number 7, asked for a bed. Gave her one. A few months later she was asking for another bed. Preg with number 8!! seriously doubt she knows where babies come from. She has asked for lots of other things too, bikes and the like!

slartybartfast · 07/08/2011 12:27

someone is givign away a flatscreen tv on my freegle site today Grin
so it does happen.

it needs tinkering apparently

BeanaReena · 07/08/2011 14:39

Wanted: Treadmill
Hi, my wife is recovering from surgery and needs to start some mild exercising, preferably walking.
Walking knowing that she can stop whenever she wants would be beneficial.
Any help appreciated. Thanks.

So you can only stop walking if you are on a treadmill?

I also saw one that was looking for a male goat as the female goat they had was lonely...

TidyDancer · 07/08/2011 15:08

I saw one asking for a juicer and blender, as the gentleman in question was severely overweight and wanted to base his diet on fruits and vegetables. Yes, because there's no other way to eat fruit and vegetables unless you blend/juice them, is there? He's posted it twice now.

A girl called Becky keeps asking for more and more unreasonable items, such as "anything made by Apple" and she desperately needs a BlackBerry, but it mustn't be a Pearl model.

We've had the obligatory requests for flatscreen tvs, cars and caravans as well.

TidyDancer · 07/08/2011 15:09

Oh, and someone today asked for a Wii (if anyone was throwing one out) and another asked for Xbox games to entertain their DCs over the summer. FFS.

"biddysmama Fri 05-Aug-11 23:21:57
my favourite one was " offered childs head on a stick horse"

PMSL

StealthPolarBear · 07/08/2011 15:31

:o

Actually we do have a childs head on a stick horse that we will need rid of soonish

OneHundredPercentFucked · 07/08/2011 16:33

I offered a tent on freecycle, here is a reply in response....

'can i ave ur tent n can u drop it of but only wont it if it as stuff wiv it or i wunt bovva wiv it'

Charmed.

StealthPolarBear · 07/08/2011 16:36

Oh please respond formally:

Dear Sir/Madam,

Thank you for your enquiry regarding my tent, . I can confirm that the tent as advertised comes with the following:

  • tent pegs (6) in carrier bag (tesco)
  • ground sheet (dk green)

....

Please contact me again via Greecycle if you wish to pursue further.

Yours faithfully,

etc

Would amuse me, anyway :o

OneHundredPercentFucked · 07/08/2011 16:40

No, I replied,

'sorry, but I do not have the slightest idea in what you have just written. Please can you send again, this time in English, Thank you.'

And anyway, there were no tent pegs included Grin

I did ask, politely, for any camping gear that may be surplus, but never got offered any. Humph.

ProfYaffle · 07/08/2011 17:07

This thread has made me really appreciate our Freecycle where people offer windfall apples or ask for pie dishes in Wymondham

munkysea · 07/08/2011 17:09

My favourite post came during the terrible snow we had last November.

OFFER: Snow. We have lots of it round here.

I think they may have been taking the mick

EauRouge · 07/08/2011 18:11

I knew that someone, somewhere would have a blog about Freecycle madness Grin

Pocketsocks · 07/08/2011 18:56

This one may well be true, and if so well done to the good intentioned individual, but it certainly made me laugh

"Wanted: I need an extra suitcase to take things out for the poor when I next go to Cuba. I will then give the suitcase to a needy Cuban. As I will
already be taking my own case, one with wheels is essential."

Also wanted was a "large tv" and offered was a 10 year old mattress. Plenty of life left in it apprently

Pocketsocks · 07/08/2011 18:59

Although I now notice a "Taken: 32 inch tv" so not so impossible OP!

ProcrastinatorGeneral · 07/08/2011 19:32

My friend runs our local Freegle group, and a couple of years ago gave me permission to post the following after a spate of particularly grasping requests:

Wanted: Moon on a Stick

If anybody has a moon on a stick I would love to have it. Must be a genuine moon, no fakes please.

PG

Grin
Honeydragon · 07/08/2011 19:32

Yes! But it must be suitable for the playroom!
