Now the laptop can be anything as long is has wifi so I can skype and is good condition.

And the 32" flatscreen tv must be suitable for the playroom.

Seriously though, why do they let these people on Freecycle? Grin

My local freecycle is currently wanting:

an air rifle
cot and baby items
electric cooker
4 man tent
mini drinks fridge
mountain bike

and my favourite:

"Hi does any one have a carvan they no longer want as I would like one to do up. For my hollerdays"

Do they ever get what they are asking for? I mean does anyone actually ever email and say 'why, yes! You can have my 42" flat screen tv, it was only £600, you are welcome and of course I will deliver it to you'
Surely these people never actually get what they are asking for, do they?

Honeydragon · 04/08/2011 14:44

Molepom

Why, one would think I'm being a little unreasonable. There's a slight tone in your post that gives such an impression. Wink

Bet your just sat on tonnes of playrooms and lap tops you could spare, too Grin

TooManyBlossoms · 04/08/2011 14:46

A few wants on mine:

an iPad (for mum who is going into hospital Confused)
a Xsara picasso towbar (I'll just unscrew mine for you shall I?) and a trailer
a leather sofa

To be fair though, the offers do far outweigh the wants.

mediawhore · 04/08/2011 14:46

Argh I hate the rude replies when I offer my slightly used lipgloss (and other items).

the ones who use text speak, no please or thank yous or just say 'yes I'll have it' do not get a response.

molepom · 04/08/2011 14:51

Too right I am HoneyDragon.

My walls are made out of 32" plasma 3D tv's and the floor is one big giant keypad! I might have a spare one lurking about somewhere but my darling house spiders need to be kept entertained you know, as they are far more intelligent due to the private schooling they have they need more stimulation.

My playrooms my dear are all theamed dont you know, painted in Farrow and Ball and none of that twigs and pebbly shit. Far too chavvy. In order to give you something out of those room will mean I will have to call in the decorator and re decorate the entire 15 bedroom house as nothing will match.

MissTinaTeaspoon · 04/08/2011 14:51

I gave it to a friend in the end (without any original packaging but as she was massively pregnant I did deliver Grin)

Butyoucant · 04/08/2011 14:54

It's the "Need" that irritates me. I would like a flat screen tv, a gazebo, a trampoline with enclosure (must be 8 foot), as recently posted on my local one, but I don't NEED them.

molepom · 04/08/2011 14:56

I've got a 6ft trampoline but needs a new enclosure. I've taken the ad off as I got sick of the emails asking if it will fit in such and such size garden, does it have an enclosure and can I deliver (already stated no as I dont drive).

OneHundredPercentFucked · 04/08/2011 15:10

Some of the wants I do not mind, like washer/cooker/fridge.

Freecycle was a life saver to me when I moved with both dc's with the clothes we owned and their toys.

But the 42' tv requests etc fuck me off. If you are desperate for a tv, any will do! We had a portable tv in our living room for just short of a year!

The one's who ask for a tv that can go on the wall because 'they have no room for one otherwise' how on earth do you think people managed before???

MrsBonkers · 04/08/2011 15:10

I do wonder about people that say they URGENTLY NEED such and such items and then list something like plant pot or roller skates. Yep the world is in recession, but if I can just get some roller skates all will be fine!

BTW - I'm in Herts too.

The premature babies wanting a PS2 was a good one on my old group.

Also, and this one is NOT a joke but the poster DID get blasted for it in the end... "Does anyone have an iPad they can gift - I would buy one myself but I'm trying to save the money to get my sick cat put to sleep."

Honeydragon · 04/08/2011 15:34

I hate with a passion those people who think a sob story must be added on to requests.

I don't know why it really upsets me, I feel it lessens the plight of those who may be embarrassed to ask for what they need.

‎"OFFERED: Toddler and 2 chairs" was the best freecycle post i have seen yet

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 04/08/2011 15:54

I always try and give a litle personal info, as I like to think that if someone is giving away their stuff they'll want it to go to a good home where it's really wanted/needed. Apparently it was this approach that got me the maternity clothes I picked up Monday. I made sure to thank her afterwards and let her know they all fit and looked good, but I didn't gush about how very very useful they were, even though they are. Funds are horribly tight, but aren;t they for a lot of people currently?

hee hee - just saw the following on my Freecycle. It tickled me because it was so the opposite from people wanting 42" Tellys!

  • WANTED. LARGE PIECES OF CARDBOARD. XXXX PLACE Hi, does anyone have any very large pieces of cardboard please? I'm hoping to build a space ship (not a real one!*
ChaosTrulyReigns · 04/08/2011 16:01

Honeydragon · 04/08/2011 16:13

poor Mick couldn't just be happy with having a fridge freezer, no, he had to have one that works Grin

Last Winter we also had an ad offering SNOW! It made me laugh.

Molepom Depending on where you live I would happily take your trampoline off your lawn for you.

I donate lots of things on freecycle, It makes me happy when someone is happy to receive something. I put a load of DDs clothes and shoes on and the lady who came to collect them was very grateful and sent me an email later saying thank you and how much her DD loved everything. Whenever I see a little girl in dressing up clothes it always makes me think of that little girl.

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 04/08/2011 16:24

snippywoo2 · 05/08/2011 22:17

Bed stolen! Replacement urgently required! - Someone stole my bed whilst I was moving house! I need another double bed or mattress as soon as possible.

How, how how did that happen????????

easy leave it on your drive and within seconds someone will take/nick it

maighdlin · 05/08/2011 22:32

i had a spare £10 3 top up voucher. i didn't know anyone who would use and stuck it on freecycle, the emails i got were crazy as to why people wanted it, 99% were sob stories like they had written up a sob story and amended it accordingly to fit the item. gave to the one person who directly asked for it with no reason. every time i read a freecycle sob story i just think "scam". same with gumtree i don't really care/buy if you want it but you can't afford until the end of the month because your boiler exploded and then your washing machine died then your car broke down.

breadandbutterfly · 05/08/2011 22:44

I had someone email me to complain v aggressively why she hadn't got the item I'd offered, as she had replied first! (She had, within a minute or two, suggesting she was just sitting on freecycle waiting for freebies to grab.)

Needless to say, I gave the item to someone else.

My policy is to give things to the most deserving sounding/polite, not just the first one who answers, anyway!
