to think this woman has guts to the point of being nuts?

She brought her baby in to work today to show her off at seven days old!

OK, her DH drove her there and back and cheated the wardens by driving round and round the block - but even so . . .

By the time she left she looked knackered and most of you can imagine better than I how knackered she must have been.

But the baby was gorgeous . . .

I took DD in when she was 13 days. And I drove myself.

I showed mine off at work at 2 days old. doesn't everyone want to show their baby off?

I took DD into work when she was only a few days old, but that's because we were out anyway to register her birth and my work is close to the registrars so it saved me having to make an extra trip into town.

I took dd4 to school to pick up the other dd's and show her off when she was 14hours old!

I didn't take DD in until she was 5 weeks old. Probably could have gone sooner, just couldn't be arsed.

I took DS2 to a playgroup at 6 days old, can't for the life of me recall why - think I had it in my addled mind that I must take DS1 to playgroup as usual, otherwise he would hate me for having inflicted a sibling on him Grin. Mad, yes. Ended up bursting into tears when they were all lisping songs at the end - hormone-induced sentimentality that has never left me since. Didn't ever take him to work, though - they were not worthy!

I walked up to work to show my dd off when she was 5 days old and I'd had a section too.

meh. I think DD was 4 days. easy birth, I live 5 mins away, and my colleagues have cakes.

Also, my mother took me to toddler group when I was 3 days old. I think she was going insane being stuck in the house with me and toddler DB Grin

I had gecko at 5pm on tuesday evening was out of hospital and arrived home at 5 pm on wednesday then thursday morning did the school run, dropping off the other two

doesn't everyone just have to get on with normal life about a day after birth if that?

People have thins thing about you going out with a baby that is only days old. They seem astonished that you have left the house.

Although personally I would prefer to wait until my belly had gone a bit flatter before visiting work but I guess I am vain! (dont believe for a second that they are only looking at the baby!)

i think it depends on the birth and the baby though?

for me it was all fine, baby was feeding and sleeping lots... i had nothing much else to do Wink i think i left ds1 with my parents while i went in though

Life does carry on when you have a baby and it's lovely to be able to 'show them off', plus everyone loves babies, don't they? (well, most people)

I was back at the stables twice daily looking after 3 horses and riding when DS3 was 3 days old and only waited that long as I had only got out of hospital the night before. Life pretty much returned to 'normal' instantly after DS's 1 and 2 also.

I think it's really important for new mums to get out of the house; no matter the work involved and the fact that you might be missing the potential for rest. Being a shut-in can drive you bonkers! After I had my third baby I was at my oldest's ballet lesson a day and a half later. It felt good to get out of the house since I knew there wasn't going to be ANY opportunity for a rest....

I did end up weeping with exhaustion in the car all the way home though, so on balance, perhaps best to stay home. Grin

I think I did something similar with DS1. By the time I had DS3 I did actually go into DH's office on the way home from the hospital (he's a bit of a workaholic!)

It's easy to forget how well you feel (hopefully) and view other people as mad for doing similar things. Good on her!

Pah - not even adventurous!

I tried to walk just over a mile (up hill) to Waitrose when DD was seven days old - also due to newborn madness hadn't really been eating properly. Made it to the supermarket, got the shopping and then passed out on the way back while crossing the road! Ended up in the back of an amubulance!

Now that was nuts - and something I certainly don't intend to attempt when DD2 is born!

Think I probably took all mine in within the first couple of weeks.

However that was after my priority of getting them all to starbucks for coffee and cake within 24 - 48 hours post birth Grin

I remember getting told off by at least two old ladies when I took DS to the park when he was a day old.

There was a heatwave at the time, so he wasn't going to get cold, besides my toddler needed a runaround
