She brought her baby in to work today to show her off at seven days old!

OK, her DH drove her there and back and cheated the wardens by driving round and round the block - but even so . . .

By the time she left she looked knackered and most of you can imagine better than I how knackered she must have been.

But the baby was gorgeous . . .

I run toddler music classes at home and once was delighted when one lady arrived with her small DS and even smaller new baby! We all asked excitedly when the baby had been born and fell OVER at the reply 'this morning!'
She HAD brought granny with her to help and had had a v easy delivery, explained that her DS did not want to miss the class...:)

PelvicFloorOfSteel · 02/08/2011 21:29

I took DS2 to playgroup when he was 4 days old, he slept through the whole thing. I didn't really need to because DP had taken DS1 already, but I was bored and a large proportion of people at playgroups are the type who really love cooing over newborns.

My work colleagues aren't really into babies so I've not bothered taking him in there yet.

MumblingRagDoll · 02/08/2011 21:32

I took my DD into work when she was still halfway out of my fanjo....I then did some filing and she learned to touch type before the cord was cut.

suzikettles · 02/08/2011 21:36

I think ds was about a week old the first time I took him into work. That's because it was across the way from the bf clinic though.

My colleagues were our first visitors in hospital too - dh left a note on the door on his way home from the birth at 8am and they managed to talk their way past the midwife on their tea break.

HeidiKat · 02/08/2011 21:38

noteven that reminds me of a story that I heard once from a relative about one of her neighbours giving birth in the morning and going home a few hours later so she could make dinner for the older DCs as her DH wouldn't know what to feed them!

Geordieminx · 02/08/2011 21:41

I took ds to starbucks aged 2 days. Old lady who stopped to coo over him was horrified! Grin

BitOfFun · 02/08/2011 21:43

I took dd2 to visit friends down the road at 3 hours old

I went via the supermarket to buy champagne Grin

SecretNutellaFix · 02/08/2011 21:44

The youngest baby I have ever seen out and about was 4 hours old. Mum had given birth at 6:30 that morning and was out shopping for baby clothes by 10:30.

On a side-note,there is nothing I hate more than when people bring their babies in to work to show them off. Completely baffled by the whole tradition.

YouDoTheMath · 02/08/2011 22:01

Is there a date before which you're not supposed to show off your baby, then?

I remember a lady at work bringing her two week old in. Everyone oohed and aahed over the baby, but after she left they all slagged her off for being "a bit keen".

Smacked of jealousy to me.

EcoLady · 02/08/2011 22:05

Stop griping and be happy that both mum & baby are fit enough to make such a visit. Smile

QuinnFabray · 02/08/2011 22:08

This thread makes it sound like women who DON'T leave the house within days of the birth are somehow lazy though, doesn't it? No pressure then!

Depends hugely on all manner of things.

I didn't leave the house for ten days after no. 3's birth, because I just felt totally and utterly knackered and beaten up.

memphis83 · 02/08/2011 22:14

I had a bad labour, left hospital with a catheter in and was in Tesco the day after printing off picture to send to family, went out everyday for a walk and took the baby to see my mum at work when he was 4 days old. I had cabin fever and wanted some fresh air after being on the delivery suite for 3 days.

mum0ftw0 · 02/08/2011 22:20

Oh I was down at the childrens' centre when DS2 was 4 days old, having trecked across the feilds with the phil and teds with 2yo and bubu in there.
I was bloody exhuasted, had to get out though.

I had DS2at home though, and only had midwives turn up for 20mins after he was born to say 'oh yeah he's fine', weighed him and 'seeya'.
Took my new born to bed with me that night and got on as normal.

I was breakin' rocks in the hot sun by dawn u'nall.

That was probably me SecretNutellaFix.

BitOfFun · 02/08/2011 22:24

I've never taken a baby of mine into a workplace, but YouDoTheMath, jeez but that sounds bitchy!

FabbyChic · 02/08/2011 22:24

Im doing maternity cover, and the girl whose job I am doing also brought in her 8 day old baby, she looked refreshed and happy, the baby was a delight.

RobynLou · 02/08/2011 22:25

I took DD1 in to work at 7 days on our 2nd day at home, DD2 was taken to playgroup and preschool at 3 days. I was v anaemic after having DD2 though and rather regretted walking there and back afterwards.

Shock at the workmates bitching about a new mum bringing in her baby, doesn't sound like a very nice place to work!

FreudianSlipper · 02/08/2011 22:25

we were out and about when ds was 4 day old, day after came out of hospital (had c-section) neither guts or nuts she jsut wanted to show her baby off (i mean in a nice way). i didn't take ds into work until i collected my final paycheck and signed redundancy contract he was about 5 months old, then again i was paid off as i worked with my ex. since then we have been in a few times i have no interest in seeing ex work colleagues but he likes to show ds off

mum0ftw0 · 02/08/2011 22:26

gotta keep yaself workin, not like these lazy folk, stayin' in bed.
Stick ya kid int sling and get yerself out pickin' potatoes.
Can't trust anyone else to put food in ya kids' mouths.

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 02/08/2011 22:27

Took my second DC to toddler group with DC1 when she was only 7 days old. Was back in my jeans too.

Took DC1 to visit the family 18 days after he was born, journey of 250 miles. And it was Xmas. And he went to a hospice to meet his great grandmother who was dying. And he survived!

mycatsaysach · 02/08/2011 22:29

i rang work from the bed in delivery room with dd and dropped off three diff places on way home with ds.

competitive thread ? Wink

BitOfFun · 02/08/2011 22:31

Nah, it's not a competion anymore, mycat. Not since I won Grin

Nanny0gg · 02/08/2011 22:32

This thread may be further proof for those on the Toddler Group threads who say that mothers are competetive...
