Come hither all those who haven't found their place on mumsnet, have scrapped in Aibu or crossed words in chat. The buddy bench shalt not judge.

The buddy bench will hand out wine and cakes, it will join you on your scoffathons getting pissed

All those who sit on the bench, will have their sins erased and be given a warm welcome and cheerful chat from CheerfulYank, gomummy, tiredmum, Elmo, valiumredhead and far, far too many more to mention.

Welcome to the buddy bench, we look forward to meeting you all Smile

Oh and don't forget, last one to leave polishes bench and locks up!

CheerfulYank · 15/08/2011 19:25

Hi everyone! Not much to report, just hanging out at home cleaning while DS builds with Lego. I may bake banana bread later.

Oh the excitement of it all. :o

Are things calming down over there a bit?

elmofan · 17/08/2011 17:36

Hello Smile

How is everyone ? Cheerful how are you feeling now ?
Wine ? I know it's early but I've been Ironing for the last 3 hours (confesses to leaving ironing to build up until my laundry basket is fit to burst Blush )

Hope you are all well x

CheerfulYank · 17/08/2011 18:44

I don't even know where my iron is Blush The three of us wear jeans with T-shirts or sweaters every day. :)

I am feeling much better, thanks!

How is everyone else? Things seem to be calming down over there a bit, huh?

gomummygo · 18/08/2011 01:47

Grin Elmo, that's my "dirty little secret." I let my ironing pile up until it is worth getting out the ironing board and iron and spray starch and can't be avoided. Until then, Downy Wrinkle Release is my friend. Blush

Glad you're doing better Cheerful!

More Envy @ the meetup here Tea! Was it fun?

CheerfulYank · 18/08/2011 04:41

Hi gomummy! I wondered where you'd been lately. :)
Elmo how are things with the landlord?

gomummygo · 18/08/2011 13:44

Grin Tea, mine is ICanTrackYourInternetUse. Changed from "ImWatchingYou" about a year ago as DH thought that was a bit ambiguous and that I should be more clear.

You would be amazed at how many corporate administration systems have, erm, less than appropriate choices!

Teaandcakeplease · 19/08/2011 17:51

Awww come and post it on the chat thread x

I am so glad to have you gals xea, just what i needed Smile

I am so glad to have you gals x

CheerfulYank · 19/08/2011 23:25

We're glad to have you too. Let us know if there's anything we should do.

A man who has been in prison for 18 years has been released today. He was sentenced to die, but it's always been obvious that he didn't commit the crime. I'm sorry for him that it's taken so long to get him out, but happy he wasn't killed.

gomummygo · 20/08/2011 01:48

Wow, 18 years of his life taken away. That is so sad. If you don't mind me asking, Cheerful, do you live in a State that has the death penalty? I know some States do but no idea which ones.

Tea I shall copy to your thread. :)

CheerfulYank · 20/08/2011 04:22

No, Minnesota does not have the death penalty and hasn't for a century.

Michigan is the only state that has never executed anyone. (I think.)

34 states have the dp but not all of them use it. There are a couple of states which technically allow the death penalty but have ruled that both of the common methods (lethal injection and the electric chair) are unconstitutional as they are "cruel and unusual punishment" so they don't use it.

Last year (or maybe the year before Confused ) was unusual in that a man was put to death by firing squad. He chose to because as a Mormon he believed his blood should be spilled to atone for his sin.

That was a happy little post, eh?

izzywhizzyletsgetbusy · 20/08/2011 05:48

Can't resist continuing the joy (cut my teeth on for and against - lawyer parents); as of this year, Alaska, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Dakota, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington DC, and West Virginia have abolished the death penalty.

There are two executions pending in New Mexico which may take place as the sentences were handed down before abolition of the death penalty earlier this year.

Michigan was the first English speaking goverment in the world to abolish the death penalty for all crimes except treason but, nevertheless, one federal execution took place in the state back in the 1930's.

The constitution of the US territory of Puerto Rico states that 'The death penalty shall not exist".

Ronnie Lee Gardner was executed by firing squad in Utah last year; he killed a guy during a robbery in 1984 and shot an attorney the following year when trying to escape from court during his (first) trial for murder.

Gardner was sentenced to life for the first murder and death for the second. He subsequently stabbed a fellow inmate and, I seem to recall, he received a second death sentence which was overturned on appeal as this victim survived.

When Gardner was put to death, he'd been on death row for 25 years during which numerous appeals against sentence were heard. This case has led to Utah redrafting its appeals legislation to limit/reduce due process.

Now that I've cheered everyone up, I shall bid you a fond farewell 'til the next time I can be of service.

CheerfulYank · 20/08/2011 06:15

Yay for krispy kremes!

Apparently the most humane method of executing someone is actually the guillotine...

CheerfulYank · 21/08/2011 21:50

Hello again. :)

Am busy ripping out lily plants. I used to like them but now I realize they take over every damn other thing. Sigh...

And back to it.

gomummygo · 22/08/2011 01:32

Wish I could come get them Cheerful! I adore lilies, mostly strange ones. Minis, giants, and especially rust coloured ones interspersed with bright yellow.

I am baking butter tarts. So far I have burned the roof of my mouth twice being unable to restrain myself until they were cooled to a civilized temperature. Blush

CheerfulYank · 22/08/2011 03:45

Mmm...butter tarts!

Yes they are really pretty Gomummy . They're bright orange tiger lilies. But they are choking my hostas. So they gotta go! :)

My usually-mean DB has just gotten me a bicycle. :) He's gotten really into biking lately and has been taking old ones off everyone's hands around town. He came home with a really nice older Schwinn today (not that it matters but it's a really pretty light teal color...I like them better when they're pretty :o) and said it was for me. Which was very nice of him. I took it for a spin down the road...I'd forgotten how much fun biking is! I'm going to go on a bit longer of a ride now.

Tiredmumno1 · 22/08/2011 21:01

Thanks cheerful i will keep that in mind.

Bike riding eh havent ridden a bike in years but it sounds fun
