Hope everyone had a lovely day xxx

ElmosChristmasWish · 27/12/2011 14:52

Hope you are all having a lovely Christmas Xmas Smile

gomummygo · 27/12/2011 15:36

Starting to clean up the disaster zone here, how are you all? Did you have a good Christmas?

ElmosChristmasWish · 27/12/2011 16:05

Ooh we will be starting our big clean up tomorrow to get
ready for dd's birthday tea on Saturday Xmas Smile .
Do you have much snow gomummy? The weather here is
very mild for this time of the year.

gomummygo · 27/12/2011 16:15

Lots of snow now Elmo, had to shovel & plow twice on Christmas day and about half of the guests still missed the driveway!

It is milder than typical here too, but still cold.

Wow @ DD's birthday right after Christmas, that's a lot of excitement and work for you this week! Hope she's feeling better now after all she's dealt with lately.

Did you have a good Christmas?

ElmosChristmasWish · 27/12/2011 17:08

Shock @ the snow , but it sounds lovely though Xmas Smile

we had a lovely Christmas thanks . I have been suffering from a really bad , sickening migraine since Christmas Eve night Sad . The pain is easing up a bit today , just left with that horrible sore head feeling . But i am VERY thankful that DD is in great form Smile . Been so worried about her lately .
She had her main party on 17th dec (i put up pics on FB today of the party) so we are just having a family Tea with her godparents & grandparents , aunts & uncles on Saturday .

Are you doing any thing nice for New Years eve ? x

CheerfulYank · 27/12/2011 18:01

We had a good Christmas too! My parents are coming in tomorrow so that will be nice.

It feels so chilly here today (-4 your temp) and yet in any other year it would be at least 20 degrees colder. We've been spoiled this year! :) Sad there's no snow though, I don't remember a Christmas without it.

gomummygo · 27/12/2011 20:43

Ugh Elmo, so sorry about the migraine. How awful to have it right through Christmas. :( Hope it goes soon. Glad to hear DD is feeling well though, that is great news.

Wow, a real Green Christmas Cheerful. I really thought we were going to have one too, but not even close in the end. It must be very strange. Bet the ambiance isn't the same, huh?

Just in from more shoveling, which I really don't mind when it's as warm as it is. We're up to -12 this afternoon but will be back below -20 when the sun goes down later. Still warmer than it would normally be this time of year. DH has been gone a lot this month with work, so I have to take the opportunities to get DS out when it is warm so I can shovel and do all the outside stuff!

So did anyone receive or see any unusual or funny Christmas presents?

Teaandcakeplease · 27/12/2011 22:44

No nothing unusual here. A white christmas sounds lovely. We rarely have snow here on the big day. But it was incredibly mild. Sounds freezing over there. It just doesn't get that cold. Mind boggles at -20 Shock

Elmo hope your head gets better soon. DS birthday is 5th Jan. So I'm just starting to think about it Blush No big party.

valiumredhead · 28/12/2011 13:04

Afternoon folks!! All our leftovers have gone - I have to cook properly today Sad

gomummygo · 28/12/2011 16:22

ACK miserable weather! We had a flash freeze overnight (dropped 20 degrees from the time we went to bed!) and have 20cm of new snow already today, forecast is for up to 40cm in this storm. Environment Canada issued the warnings last night but it seems more miserable than they were calling for.

BLECH.

Tea, -20 is a good day. :) We'll have some patches of -35 to -40, plus windchill. Still much warmer here though than up north where I have relatives.

Me too Valium, and I just don't feel like cooking today for some reason. Whatever it ends up being will be dramatically different to turkey and stuffing, I know that much!

Hope you're feeling better today Elmo. Do you get that 'hangover' type thing after a migraine? I hate that feeling, like you've just been run over by a truck.

Do your family have far to travel Cheerful?

Teaandcakeplease · 28/12/2011 19:45

Crumbs that's cold! Smile What's the average temperature in Canada in Winter? Does it vary massively region to region?

OP posts:
gomummygo · 28/12/2011 22:52

Yes it varies massively. Up in the far north it is cold beyond any reasonable description, I have relatives who regularly experience -50, and that's without the windchill. On the coasts, and down south it is typically much more mild (on average), closer to your temps. I'm sort of in the middle temp wise, but even that varies greatly. Most of our winter where I live is about -20 to -25 as an average, and we usually get some weeks that are colder, as well as a thaw or two. We'll normally see -40 a few times, but usually it's not too long a stretch. Where DH is from is consistently much colder, he actually moved here for that reason.

It's the wind that gets you though. The windchill today is 50km/hr, which makes it feel colder, iykwim.

What we don't have, is the dampness that they do elsewhere in the country (and I suppose where you are too?). I used to travel a lot for work and would feel colder in -10 where it was damp than I ever did at home in -30. Confused

What's it like on average there?

Teaandcakeplease · 28/12/2011 23:02

It's so mild right now the weather out look for the next week is Thurs Min overnight is 43, daytime 46, Fri 45 Sat 54 and 48 Sun 50 and 39.

It's warm compared to you. It rains more on the coasts and up north in the Lake District and Scotland and yes up north it is cooler but not massively so. Not like in Canada. Mind you the UK is teeny tiny compared to Canada Smile

OP posts:
gomummygo · 28/12/2011 23:25
Grin

A bit envious that UK is teeny tiny compared to Canada, and the US. Over here we can drive every day for a week straight and still not be out of the country. It's lovely, but imo the middle of the country is tremendously boring to get across if you've got somewhere to go!

I love the idea that you can visit a foreign country without an airplane. :)

PigletJohn · 28/12/2011 23:36

11C here today (52F)

Only seen one frosty morning this year, and flurries of snow on the high ground up North near Petersfield. I'm quite pleased as the gas bills should be low this year.

But Canada was a lot warmer than here in September.

CheerfulYank · 29/12/2011 01:04

I've seen -58. That was a cold winter! :) I love Minnesota and its weather, though!

The weather has been really mild, I think the lowest we've gotten is -12 your temp. It feels all wrong somehow, even though it's been nice to be able to still walk my dog in the middle of December.

Teaandcakeplease · 29/12/2011 07:45

I almost forgot to do the toothfairy. Doesn't bode well, as that was the first time I've ever had to do it Blush She came in this morning saying she hadn't been, luckily she hadn't switched on the light yet, so I sneaked a £1 under her pillow and suggested she take a better look with the light on. [bad mummy emoticon] She seemed happy about it There's a picture on my fb page.

GoMummy it is usually colder by now. My memory isn't the best but certainly where I live I do not remember it getting colder than -5 C. I like the frosty/ icey weather with the sunshine. So beautiful. Although it is nice to be able to take the children to the playground without them getting really cold right now. But very unusual for this time of year.

valiumredhead · 29/12/2011 12:24

Just dragged ds out for a walk around the lake - it was 8 degrees according to the car's themometer thingy, it felt mild. We have roses in our cheeks now Grin

gomummygo · 29/12/2011 15:06

Wow Cheerful that is brutal. The lowest I remember on it's own (without the windchill) was -42, which happens about three times a year. Totally impressed that you still love the winters! Grin

You are so right, Piglet, we had our summer in September, it was lovely there for a while!

Good recovery with the tooth fairy, Tea! Grin Will have to check out fb later, that is quite a milestone!

Envy @ 8 degrees Valium! -32 this morning but warming up a little now with the sun, thankfully.

So do any of you make New Years Resolutions?

Tiredmumno1 · 29/12/2011 15:10

Hello you lot, wow its been a hectic few days. Not looking forward to the housework, playing with the toys is much more exciting Grin

Just need to get new year over with now, we like to stay in the comfort and warmth rather than go out in that freezing cold.

I may treat myself to an ipod touch with my christmas money, havent decided yet Smile

CheerfulYank · 29/12/2011 15:40

I'm just going to a friend's for the New Year and we're going to make sangria and watch the rest of our Christmas movies. :o

DS just left with my Dad for a few days. DH is at work...I'm alll alllooooneee.

Teaandcakeplease · 29/12/2011 16:35
